Dont know if you guys are aware of it but according to an article on l'equipe.fr about the players missing from the Euro U21 France squad, they said Yoro is supposed to have surgery during the offseason to fix his foot injury.

It's been 3 weeks since the season ended, please tell me we're not still waiting for him to have surgery so he misses even more of next season?

Best player for us in the cup final and showed some really promising signs throughout the season. Hoping he stays injury free this season.

Does anyone think he is better at LCB than RCB?
He seems better (or perhaps just more comfortable) driving forward with the ball when he's on the left. I'm not sure if there's much difference in terms of defending and passing, but that's something I'll be trying to watch for this coming season.

I'd start the season with Yoro at LCB and Maraoui at RCB, although Heaven should also be getting a good amount of game time as long as his performances warrant it (especially if Mazrauoi's poor late-season form continues).

So did this turn out to be false then?

Very small sample size and overstating it but his passing might be better at LCB and defending better at RCB

I think his leaves a bit too much of a gap/space between himself and the LWB i.e not as comfortable closing space in the half channels/edge of penalty box. Conversely, playing at LCB opens more of the pitch when he has the ball on his right foot so his passing is a more expansive.

Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to his development and I hope as feck he steps up because if we don't get any adequate midfielders in, I really fear how we will progress up the pitch with Amorim ball.

I have absolutely no idea. It was randomly mentioned in a long article about the club on lequipe.fr when I posted about it but I havent read anythign about it since. I figure if there's something it's more likely to come from England/Manchester as I suppose he's over there at the moment. Or maybe they were misinformed or mixed him up with another player.

I've never seen a set of fans obsessed and insistent that their right footed centre back has to play on the left.

He's comfortable on the left despite being right footed, that's a bonus we have that option. People are drawing wild conclusions based on a small sample size of a 19 year old that he somehow has a big disparity in his level of quality depending on what side he plays on.

If we have any hopes for Heaven being a first team player, we need to plan on the basis that Yoro will predominantly play on the right side just like almost every right footed player would do in this situation. And don't blame every time he has a bad moment or game that it's because he needs to play on the opposite side and suddenly he'll be flawless.

Though I do wonder if long term one of Yoro/Heaven could end up as the centre of the back 3, if Amorim did stay for years. I'd be interested to know what his thoughts are on what qualities are most important in central CB vs wide CB.

He also said he prefers to play on the left. But yeah it really shouldnt matter

It was such a nothing quote.

"I'm right footed so it's more easy for me sometimes on the right but I like to play on the left because I can put long ball to the striker when I go inside. I like both sides"

I'm not letting that dictate his entire career here.

Care to point out the examples of these obsessed fans, who are insisting where he plays? I'm genuinely baffled looking at the current or previous page, where people like myself are simply making a comment/observation and already caveating that with 'it's a small sample' size. It's literally also just 4 posts.

I know it's muppet season so therefore the boards descends into out-of-season irregularity but unless I've got it wrong, your indignance seems to be misguided and a strawman.

A Yoro - De Ligt - Heaven back line has a lot of symmetry and balance to it. All three are very comfortable on the ball, and in Yoro and Heaven you have two who are extremely gifted at carrying the ball. Both also have plenty of pace. De Ligt brings a little more physicality and aerial presence. All are young, as the oldest is only 25. But it’s a trio that could be an exceptional foundation for years to come.

I do think we need, at the very least another CB to provide genuine competition for places. You also can’t bank on any of the three actually fulfilling their massive promise. The two names who stood out for me coming into this summer were Diomande and Branthwaite. Branthwaite is unachievable now, sadly, but Diomande could be a great get in the next year or so.

I think most would rightly prefer a left footed CB on the left, but it’s not a necessity. I’m a huge fan of Yoro, he has all the tools to become world class. But it will take time.

For sure and it doesnt mean anything with regards to who he plays with. For example Martinez and Heaven could easily play on the right or in the middle CB spot. Some managers do have a preference though like with Van Gaal being so particular about it that Blackett came into the team...

Lot of noise coming recently that he feels that he made a mistake by rejecting Real Madrid, do you think he might go there sooner rather later?

Yoro is a great talent, Heaven still very young and De Ligt is a bit slow and injury prone. They have a lot to prove in my opinion if we are aiming for top 5 but we are still weaker at WB and CM.

Care to post sources? Or you just on about what you’ve seen on Reddit or TikTok?

I don’t disagree. I am excited about where all 3 can be in 12-24 months time but I agree they have lots to prove. Nevertheless I’m an inherently positive person and I am cautiously excited at the potential of this trio.

Regarding the other positions, I am also cautiously optimistic about Amad and Dorgu as wingbacks. Think they have an enormous amount to offer and an equally enormous amount of improvement they can achieve. However, I would feel a lot happier if we had a third excellent wing back option. The depth beyond those two is very thin gruel and incredibly defensive given what the role demands under Amorim.

As for CM, I think for this team to truly flourish we needed to move Bruno on this summer. I love the guy but having a specialist CM in there, in the mould of an Ederson type figure, would’ve helped transform this team. I think Bruno has earned the right to choose his future and should never be pushed out but if you are making the hard choices, I don’t think he’s the best option as a CM. I do hold out hope that with Cunha and hopefully Mbeumo in front of him he won’t be driven to do too much, as he is wont to do. If he is positionally disciplined, he’ll be a massive asset, I just have my doubts if he can ever adjust his game in the way we need him to. An Ederson/Mainoo midfield is one that I could really get behind, but with Bruno staying, I don’t think Mainoo is the right partner for him.

There is much to be learned in pre-season and in the season to come. I am ready and willing to put my assumptions aside and see what Amorim can do with the players he has. The younger players will develop further, hopefully, and the more experienced players should benefit from having more training time and tactically clarity about their roles and instructions.

Maybe if they actually bid this time. He cant have made a mistake because they were never willing to sign him for the money we were willing to offer. Meanwhile they have said Huijsen so might be out of the market for an expensive CB for a couple of years

I guess the regret would be not waiting for them for a year, if he has any.

Still, shit source, but can't blame a player looking at the season we had and then looking at Real Madrid (in general)

I would hope he would be concentrating on his own performances. He did better in the final third of the season but his first half season was pretty weak and I dont think it would have gone down well in Madrid.

I suspect Heaven might end up being the CCB if he continues to progress (and we continue to play three at the back). It's a small sample size but I feel he's better at progressing the ball up the field with his passing rather than carrying it himself, he's strong in the air, and while he's not slow I'm not sure he's quite as fast as we'd ideally want in the wider spot.

He'll probably continue on the left for now, but it wouldn't surprise me if we target another left sided CB in the not too distant future (or Yoro ends up on that side fulltime).

I'm not saying it's true or anything, but I think it would be fairly normal to have second thoughts about your choices after the year we just had. You're absolutely correct in pointing out he didn't exactly set the world alight for large parts of the season

and few other sources(Please google it), I love Yoro and i see him as our future captain. hope this noise is some Spanish nuisance.
You can immediately see that it's a very respectable source that checks their stuff thoroughly even just by that one quote from their article:
The 197-year-old is one of the best young players in the world and had interest from Man Utd

He did look better playing from the left towards the end of the season but if I remember correctly we didn't really see him much, if at all, from the right in that period. Could just be down to him developing as a player and settling into the team/league more. Will be interesting to see him from the right next season if that is the case, which you'd expect to happen more often if Heaven is available

Wishful seeing perhaps, but I thought Yoro was outstanding for us last season. Just keep the context in mind -- shit squad, difficult tactics to adapt to, bag-of-nerves keeper, strikers who couldn't score in a brothel -- and his performances were one of the few bright spots of the season.

He doesn't seem to be very dominant in the air. Beyond that, everything exceeded my expectations - calmness in possession, ability on the ball, concentration, duel success, tackling.

To be fair a lot of that was due to him being absolutely knackered by the end of the season given this is the most he's played in a long time. I'd go with Yoro-MDL-Maz as our starting pairing. Heaven, Licha and Maguire backup options.

Think Yoro would be someone I'd be comfortable with playing in any of the 3 CB positions!
