Has some good moments but he doesn’t make me a bit nervous sometimes. There’s a good player in there so hopefully he can kick on. I think he does benefit from having Maguire next to him, despite the mistake early on today.

Ideally, we would be able to loan him out like Arsenal did with Saliba. But sadly, Martinez and De Ligt are made of glass, and even Maguire seems to pick up quite a few injuries in the past year.

Not good again. I think Heaven deserves to start over him if no Licha

Nothing in his game really stands out. It seems we've seriously overpaid for him.

He might turn out to be a good player for us in time, but none of his attributes stand out enough to make me think he's a top tier talent for the money we have invested.

As it stands he looks more like a £25m project.

In think he takes a second too long to make any decisions both offensively and defensively.

Weird player.

I think we have to keep in mind that this kid is only 20.

That being said, we spent 50+ million on this kid with the thought that he was our future van Dijk and after nearly 60 matches played I've not seen much to suggest that he's going to be the world beater we anticipated.

Heaven is better, let's be honest. Although I accept he's still very young, but don't think I've ever been too impressed with his performance level since joining. I don't think he's had a single performance in which I think to myself, yeah we have a serious prospect here.

Needs to bulk up. Still young so there is room to improve. Gets bullied too often still

Obvious had blood on his hands for the Palace goal but he grew into the game quickly and helped make sure Lammens could take a nap for the remainder of the match.

He'll get there. Young defenders need time and patience to develop. Ideally he should not be in the firing line with Maguire, MDL and Martinez ahead of him.

He'll get there. I'm sure of it

Even ignoring the goal he was terrible.

He lost 6 out of 7 duels

Every time they kicked the ball forward he got bullied

Quite surprised by the takes in this thread.

Was absolutely woeful for the goal (his main weakness is definitely his aerial game), but he’s been playing semi-consistently for 2 years for united at 20, and has been decent for the most part. He’ll make mistakes still, but that’s part of the deal with younger players.

And I love Heaven too, but saying he’s better than Yoro after he’s played significantly less minutes than him is absurd.

Time to overreact! AAAAA!

He'll be fine. Young and lernin - obviously has tons of potential, and will have good and bad days.

Made a mistake in the first few minutes...was fine afterwards.

Job done...all about gaining experience.

I'm worried about him for the prem, keeps struggling in the same areas.

No one said he is not still learning and young. But shockingly poor today

Wouldn't say he was shockingly poor myself. Bad mistake from the goal against Lacroix who is a big, aerially dominant guy. Few iffy moments otherwise but it's not like we conceded loads or he totally lost his head and had to be subbed early. 5/10 for me.

He's going to look best when we're playing a more aggressive high line so he can use his movement and save us in transitions, as it is none of those moments happened today, but they have in the past and he defends those at an elite level. It's going to be when he can do the bread and butter stuff reliably that he will put it all together and become a top defender.

Also - he needs to put on like 10kg once his body can handle it.

Not ready for this level. Not physically strong enough, still needs to show if he's good enough overall.
Yeah. A bit surprising given the fee + hype with him. He's just a big issue in the air, and he doesn't offer as much as Licha or Maguire on the ball either.

End of the season, I'd try get Ballard in, someone who can win a header or a duel, and put Leny out on loan to a smaller club to learn the basics of defending.

I know young defenders are not the finished product and will make mistakes, but let him make those mistakes on someone else's time, and if he's good enough we take him back as a better player.

So far he hasn't really shown any elige talent. Comparing him to other young defenders we've bought in Smalling and Jones, I don't think he's even at the level they were when we bought him. His technical ability sees low and although he has a decent pace he doesn't have a physical presence. Still think he will develop in the mold of Varane although doubt he will get anywhere as good. Probably needs a decent loan to develop.

I think he will end up being top quality, abit like saliba. signed very young, needs time to develop.

He reminds me of a Varane, stylistically but still in development. Varane wasn't great on the ball, but made it work and his composure and calm was of the highest tier.

Think Heaven right now is the better choice. Both are still developing, but Heaven has been more solid, and way better on the ball.

Needs to be a bit stronger when marking touch tight.
I think his biggest weaknesses right now are that he's either outmuscled easily or he becomes so focused on not getting outmuscled that he takes his focus off the ball.

In most other areas he looks really promising, but that strength issue won't get any easier unless he improves because he'll only be targeted more.

Leny's issues appear to be psychological. A bit too much ball watching and being in awe of everything around him. Once he bears down on the tasks at hand he'll be a fantastic Varanesque CB. But let's do bring Lisandro back as soon as possible, please.

Aside from the goal, he wasn't that bad really, his ball progression is lacking but Palace were very compact throughout the whole game and we struggled to break them down in the first half and only in the second half we managed to get to their box

This is a good experience for him and I can see him getting better as time goes, he'll make mistakes but he is not a mistakes ridden player and he is not hopeless at all.

People need to remember what he did for us against West Ham. There's loads of good stuff in there. He's the type of defender we aspire to requiring. Right now we more need a Maguire.

I really want him to have a game at LCB.

He has said it himself that he prefers playing LCB over RCB.

I don't know why Carrick decided to shift Maguire to LCB instead.

Carrick definitely prefers a Rio/Vidic type partnership - one ball player and one destroyer.

Maguire & Martinez, De Ligt & Heaven with both our ballplaying CB's coming from the left. I think Yoro is struggling to come to form because he isn't still playing his best position trying to play as a ball playing RCB that Yoro maybe is not.

However, Let's also not forget his fantastic cameo that got him to the starting 11 - so there's no need to talk about him very negatively because he has had a game very recently where he save us from losing points.

Lost focus on the goal. Even if you're man marking, you should never lose focus of where they ball is.
His physical and technical abilities are top notch, but really needs to focus a lot and someone needs to explain him how to control inside space.

Got dominated by Strand Larsen. I don't think it's just a matter of bulking up, although that would help. His positioning also made him easier to get bullied. If you have the physical disadvantage, then you need to be smarter. Heaven looks like the better prospect.

He was also dominated on long balls from Palace. Got beaten over and over, mostly by Strand Larsen.

Nothing to panic over or anything. But he and Dalot were bad with a capital B today, IMO.

Very poor performance. Always felt uncomrotable when he had the ball, looks like he has no confidence at all. He's young, but it's still a bit concerning considering how good he was in the beginning of his United career.

Needs to harden up and be more strong and aggressive.

He’s only 20 though, so time is on his side and no doubt he will bulk up and gain some more muscle over the next couple of years.

What strikes me is his heading technique, it looks all wrong, sort of like he is scared of the ball. I would pick Heaven instead of him until Martinez is back.

He looks very nervous, every time I've seen him play, but Dorgu certainly looked like a rabbit in the headlights before moving onto the left wing, so realistically I think he needs a run of games where he does more and more positive plays, which hopefully will help his confidence, cause I'm sure that's all it is.

I'm very much of the mood that he's just not really up to it personally.

Hope he proves me wrong and I'm not going to slate a kid who's doing his best but I just don't see it. I'd be putting him on at least a season long loan and hiring him an individual weight training coach.

He seems a little nervous.. I suppose the only way to improve is for him to play. But he does seem like he isn't quite ready for the first XI at times. Maguire and Martinez, Shaw will help him, a lot. But he should settle a bit.

Heaven seems ahead of him, in my opinion.
