Weak earlier in the season, he's taken a real step forward now. Very good against Villa with only the yellow card against him

Good game from him, especially in the first half where he bailed us out once or twice. Happy to see that after a period of pretty ropey form.

Credits where due. Good and calm performance today. Hope he continues to improve.

Think the away game vs Villa was stuck in his head where he was too passive, so he was extra aggressive from the first minute today.

I honestly think it has everything to do with not being in a back three anymore. He always seemed to get caught out of position or not knowing who to track.

Now that he’s in a back four, he seems far more comfortable with his instructions and his defensive instincts show better.

Really hope he keeps improving because he definitely has something about him.

Thought he was really good today, especially defensively. He was aggressive, and he was aggressive in the air a few times too which was really nice to see. Looks like he's had a word with himself and upped it a gear.

I don't feel like I have a handle on his potential anymore, but I'm really rooting for him.

A very solid performance from young Yoro. We still miss Lisandro badly but Leny earned his paycheck today.

Much improved of late, this was probably his best performance of the season. Good to see him growing in confidence.

Love him, but shades of a young Rio where the game seems too easy for him at times and he lacks concentration. 2-3 times today he was looking at the play ahead and miscontrolled to miskick the ball. Hypercritical but I'd like to see him try a few more driving runs or incisive passes, as I think that's in his wheelhouse.

He clearly had lost confidence under Amorim's back 3 system.
It's taken a long time, but he's slowly coming back and beginning to impress again, like when he first arrived as a teenager in the 1st team.
He's still a kid (not long since his 20th birthday), playing in a position that's normally the domain of older, far more experienced players.
A good performance today against Villa, making some vital interventions in the 1st half.

Much better today. That three at the back bobbins did him no favours.

I think he can be a solid player. However, I wouldn’t be confident with him playing without Maguire.

Villa tried to target him but failed miserably. He outpaced them, outmuscled them and most importantly ouwitted them. His greatest strength seems to be his composure. No idea about his ceiling - he doesn’t have those insane physical attributes, but he’s way beyond the composure and reading of the game that most defenders his age have.

I think Yoro has had more good games in a three than in a four but thats probably more connected with having less games in a four for us. I think, he was good today but he had very good games before even if the more recent past was a bit dodgy.

He was very assured today, maybe in part, that was down to Villa not offering much in terms of pace/power up front, so he was never tested.

I don't see shades of Rio in him. He's much less talented than Rio was and is about the same level as Smalling was on the ball. If he fully fulfills his potential I'd see him more in the mold of Varane, a good reader, quick but not that great on the ball. Still is a longggggg way off of that though.

Agree. Anyone who compares him to Rio really didn’t see him play as a youngster at West Ham. Varane is a much better comparison - their abilities on the ball are not top notch.

Yoro can be a solid player, but the potential of him and Rio at the same age is night and day.

He’s not close to Varane either. Varane was one of the fastest centre backs around and made mince meat out of very fast attackers - Messi looked stationary against him. I think he said he never lost foot races in training - prime Bale and Ronaldo…

He was also immense in the air and brilliant at reading the game in covering the space in behind.

Not sure who Yoro reminds me of, but he doesn’t have the pace of Rio or Varane. He doesn’t have the silky movements and technique of Rio or the aerial presence of Varane.

Right now hes just a good young defender. Completely normal. Nothing really jumps out because hes not at that level yet. However hes only 20 and plenty of the better CBs started to look like they might be top CBs later than 20.

I'm his harshest critic but fair play he was very good yesterday.

I’m not, but I thought he was nothing special. His long range passing was all off. He’s had a difficult while but there’s high potential there.

That’s all fair. But you do pay £60m for an 18 year old defender and expect to see some outstanding potential. Obviously nowhere near the finished player, but some attributes that really stand out.

Not doing that lad a disservice at all, and think he can be a good player. I just don’t see anything special in him.

I thought he defended well. That's the main thing for me with him at the minute because he often feels so shaky.

He's not a Licha type passer but he also kept shuffling to quite a wide right back position and finding Dalot in the second half that let us start beating their press. That's probably more good coaching than his own instinct but he did it correctly so that's good

The outstanding potential was that he was starting at 16/17 in France and doing a good job.

The premier league is a much tougher league. He's had a slow adjustment

I think we can say the outstanding part was his maturity to play that young, and that hasnt transfered to the premier league yet. But maybe something will click and he will once again look like a player beyond his years

I think it's worth remembering Saliba got shipped off to France for a year after joining Arsenal as he wanted to play regularly and it ended up helping his game. We're giving him game time in a much tougher league, he's a bit up and down but I think this will be beneficial to him in the long run.

There's definitely a player in there, just maybe needs to toughen up a little at times.

I think he's in a similar boat with Kobbie. People want to see wonderkid performances week in and week out, but the reality is that both of them are still learning their position.
Yoro is still extremely young for a CB, so lapses of concentration or sometimes a lack of physicality/intensity is bound to happen. We need to stay patient.
