Let him build aggression, bulk up a little and train set pieces so he can improve in the air and he will be a complete defender. He's got confidence to grow into a great defender, just need to play harder. rather watch VIdic instead of Rio for his video homework.

Right now hes just a good young defender. Completely normal. Nothing really jumps out because hes not at that level yet. However hes only 20 and plenty of the better CBs started to look like they might be top CBs later than 20.
I agree, but I disagreed with the comparisons with Rio and Varane. He doesn’t have their physical attributes. Nor does he have Rio’s silky nature on the ball, but he will improve, and most centre backs hit their prime closer to 30 than 20 - so if he develops as we hope, he can become immense.

How many young defenders start this many games in the premier league? Super high ceiling.

Yeah, I'd be tempted to say he's more like Maguire and Smalling who both made a good amount of interceptions and despite his nice tackle yesterday, its interceptions he does a bit more often. However both Maguire and Smalling were aerially dominant and he isnt at the moment. So yeah I dont think he really has a comparison with our previous CBs.

I think he's in a similar boat with Kobbie. People want to see wonderkid performances week in and week out, but the reality is that both of them are still learning their position.
Yoro is still extremely young for a CB, so lapses of concentration or sometimes a lack of physicality/intensity is bound to happen. We need to stay patient.
Yep. Appreciate the good performances for his age but also have patience for the bad ones too, because that will always happen.

The outstanding potential was that he was starting at 16/17 in France and doing a good job.

The premier league is a much tougher league. He's had a slow adjustment

I think we can say the outstanding part was his maturity to play that young, and that hasnt transfered to the premier league yet. But maybe something will click and he will once again look like a player beyond his years
Playing at an early age is in itself not outstanding.

Just because a player starts at a young age g age doesn’t in mean he will have this upward trend. Where is his pace, positioning, heading ability, passing etc. it’s all fine - but what are his outstanding attributes? I think he will be a solid player, but he doesn’t stand out.

You missed the part where he did well. Lille finished 4th with him starting 30 games at CB for them with the joint 3rd best defensive record and just 1 more goal conceded than the 2nd best defensive record

Success and records like that are more important than individual things standing out. You could be Van Der Ven with max speed and a good jump standing out and still be a weak CB.

Definitely. He's got plenty of good qualities to build on. He's tall yet agile and composed on the ball. He can play on both sides and has a calm and mature demeanour. If he can improve steadily across the board and work on his physical game in duels and in the air a bit more, he is going to be a great defender.

Smalling was physically superior both aerially and in terms of pace, but he was worse on the ball. No, I can't really compare him that well to our previous centre backs. He has potential though - doing well at 20 in the PL; not many defenders can boast about that.

I am not changing my mind over him. He IS a generational talent and will become great defenders.

Bournemouth 2:2 Man Utd New
He lacks aggression, and it's not getting better. Their first goal is completely on him(ignoring the Amad foul). Gives Christie so much time to shoot and when he decides he wants to get close, the ball's already gone. I was worried about this, because he'd been doing it all night.

I don't think even Lindelof was this passive.

He needs to close down faster. He’s given up too many goals like the one today. Still a talent but it annoys me when we give them so much space around the box needlessly.

His positioning and concentration are also big issue. In ideal world, he should not be starter yet if De ligt and Martinez are available.

What on earth was he thinking when he turned and passed it back in to our box near the end? He almost gifted Bournemouth a 3rd goal

2nd season syndrome? Not the first time this season his defending has been poor. Where's Ayden Heaven?

Used to think he was a bit of a gem. Has looked well off it for a while now. Not great with the physical duels.

For someone so tall, he doesn't half get physically dominated in this league.

Needs to hit the gym.

He's going backwards this season. Really need him to do extra training in the summer and come back stronger, because hes being bullied right now.

Yeah he ain’t it tbh.

As a young defender it’s fine to make mistakes, maybe not be positionally aware, maybe a bit rash but he doesn’t do the basic things you expect from a young centre back. Compare him to Heaven..

I don’t feel like Heaven has a high ceiling but when he plays it’s 100%, he’s aggressive, he’s not shy to put in a challenge and he wins duels.

Yoro literally fails at all these things when up against any sort of physical centre forward.
These are things you can’t teach, he should be doing them automatically and he’s not.

His progress this season should be alarming for everyone.

Nobody's talked about it because "he's young" but what the feck were we thinking spending so much money on him? 70m on a fecking teenage CB without any actual stand out attributes? It was always a terrible signing.

Hope he turns into a good center back but I don't see any single quality that can turn him into a "great" one. He's like a Lindelof level player, Lindelof type stature... That's not to say he's bad, but just... Why would you go out and spend so much on that?

How much do we need to break even on him?

Otherwise he needs like a 5 year loan to another league, nowhere near ready.

He's good at slide tackling but can't seem to head a ball.

I will always say though - he is better playing at LCB than RCB. He said it himself.

Don’t understand why he’s getting the nod over Heaven. Sure, Heaven has a mistake in him, but he generally looks the part and plays with confidence. Yoro looks out of place all of the time.

Not good enough in the air. So I dont see any point in keeping him.

We need to start signing CBs who can dominate the penalty area and are athletic.

I don’t get it either. Real shame

Another tough game. He had moments he did well, but was guilty on the first goal not quite doing enough, didnt do everything he could with the 2nd and unfortunately some good clearances at other times dont really make up for coming up short on the goals. The positive is you learn more when you lose so I hope he's absorbing everything.

Maguire has been carrying him in the last matches

Looked completely lost throughout was bullied all game

How he finished the game and wasn't taken off is beyond me. That was a full 90 minutes of him being completely embarrassed by DCL.

How he keeps starting every game is equally beyond me.

Don't see it with this guy at all. Nearly two seasons here and I don't think he's ever produced a truly impressive performance even once. We're also entering a period in which more teams are prioritising directness and physicality, which appear to be a huge weakness of his.
