Leny Yoro | 2026/27 Performances

Talented player.

I'm of the opinion that he needs a serious run in the team, the thing is - at United - fans (online) are super reactionary and a slight drop of form and they get on your back, and players are often banished to the shadow realm and see reduced minutes, etc. Then the "we should get rid" crowd stars getting increasingly louder.

It's hard to develop players in that environment. Similar happened to Amad. I somewhat understand why people are seemingly so impatient now - we've not seen substantial success for a while, but if we're not going to be competing at the crazy valuations in the market, we should be a bit better at cultivating the players we have.

He's only 20 years old, he's got all the tools to become one of the best.

Honestly I’d play him at RB for a season to give him those crucial minutes and gain experience.

Dalot isn’t suddenly going to get any better and Maz has never forced his way into the first 11 either.

He played well. When Leeds increased their intensity and Armer was struggling, Yoro was able to step in and put out fires. That clearly shows who's played at the top level because both of them are CB prospects. Yoro especially can become a really good dueler, really snsppy in the tackle and deceptively fast + rather agile when the situation demands it.

Still have high hopes for him, he's looked a lot better this preseason so hope he can take this form into the season because we'll more than likely be relying on him at some point.

People write off players (really young in this case) far too easily. He’s shown flashes of being very good. I’m sure he’ll put it all together soon and be a big player for us in the future.

Apart from his pace he seems pretty average. As mentioned in the matchday thread Heaven is a better prospect and further ahead than Yoro for me.

I was going to say that I think Yoro's looked better in pre-season than Heaven has. If Martinez isn't ready to start the season, I'd have Yoro starting the first match.

Both very good but we must be seeing different players. Yoro has for the most part looked better to me than Heaven. He reads the game better, is faster and is an underrated header of the ball. Heaven is just stronger than him right now.

He needs a big season. I appreciate he's young, but in the two seasons he's been here I haven't once thought we've a serious player on our hands here.

Is he even that fast? I'm not going to say he's terrible or anything but I've always seen people mentioning his pace, but I've never felt comfortable with him in a foot race compared to when Smalling was here for instance. Were him and Rio just exceptionally quick for defenders and warped my perspective?

I have high confidence in him. For me he has great potential. He had a couple of vertical passes between the lines in the first half that I was blown away by. If he continues with that....wow.

I think he’s better than even he knows. He just needs to be more aggressive and also expansive with his passing. Hes actually got more technique than Heaven he just doesn’t show it as much - is a bit more timid. Hes also much better in the air and that area of his game is under appreciated. I’d quite like to see them swap for a bit because there was a period of time where Yoro was getting games at LCB and he looked better than he ever has on the right.

Hes also not a right back.

I think both players are coming on well and will be assets to us.

He’s shown huge improvement in preseason. He looks hungry in his desire to win the ball and has been so much better on the ball than he usually has. Today he was passing through the lines and moving infield with the ball.

He just needs to play to keep on developing. He’s still so young so he will make mistakes or be out of place positionally but he’s a huge talent and it finally looks like he’s getting settled and believing in himself. Big season for him.

Passed it nicely. Positive stuff this whole pre-season at CB and RB. Feels like he can win a starting spot this year next to uh well, I have no idea.

Interesting I'm on the opposite boat, I think Yoro is better, Heaven I feel like loses focus more often than Yoro

Surprised so many dont rate him as a top talent. He is 20 years old, I doubt there are many out there being so much better than him

Our best defender this pre-season, deserves to start the season. He really likes "defending" and also seems to have improved aerially too. Needs to learn better direction in offensive heading duels. It's crazy that he's only 20.

He's a reactive defender than a proactive defender.

It's like he is good in situations we need someone to make a goal line clearance type of defender and make last ditch tackles.

This kinds of leaves him purposely making the opposition come more at him and and towards our goal before he makes a lean lanky tackle.

However, if the opposition beat him then he has drawn in the opposition towards the goal too much which can make direct shots easier for the opposition.

I still like him and wouldn't sell him. He is on par with heaven now because heaven is less good defensively even if he is more composed.

I get the argument with Heaven and focus, however, I don't see much difference in that aspect from the two as Yoro loses focus as well. Heaven also has improved drastically imo as a CB over last season. I think from an ability perspective Heaven isn't too far off of Yoro defensively but on the ball is in a different league for me. His passing, switch of play, general comfortableness on the ball is very good for a CB. He also looks like he may end up bigger than Yoro with good pace.

Now, that's not saying Yoro isn't a good prospect, but if we saw both of them playing for another team, Heaven would be the one I'd be trying to get over Yoro.

He has a bad habit of turning his back on the attacker when the attacker cuts inside

Pretty much. Yoro is fairly fast. The only one of our current central defenders who I'd say is faster than average. But he's certainly not as fast as the likes of Rio, Silvestre or Smalling were.

It'll be interesting to see which one of the two youngsters will get the nod to partner Maguire against Hull. I'd give Yoro the slight edge this preseason, other than Santos and Mount he's probably been our best player. But it does seem like Carrick prefers to play Maguire on the right, so that might give Heaven the advantage (even though Yoro's best ever form for us came when playing on the left).

I think this is an important season for his career path. IF we are competiting for the title (which i think is in the realm of possibility because I'm a homer) and he can get a good, long run in a meaningful title pursuit season, this would be great. IF we are pretenders, fading to the mid pack, then I hope we totally rotate to youth and give Yoro and Heaven the chance to develop.

Gotcha, I certainly never meant that I think Yoro is slow but people make out like he's absolutely rapid.

Hopefully he keeps improving. I want to him to be the starter, but right now he still loses too many duels for my liking.

A bit surprised he didn’t feature today. I think he was our best defender during the pre-season matches.

I’m not sure what the clubs priorities are this season but Yoro (and Heaven) becoming the starting CB should be high on the list.

I’m 50-50 whether it will be him or Heaven.
I actually hope it's Yoro and Maguire but there's a chance that Carrick feels like they have to split Maguire and Shaw up from being on the same side. Yoro is better at staying focused compared to Heaven, but our LB situation is really forcing our hands

I hope the Yoro at RB thing continues and we move Dalot LB. Shaw is done.

No, we need to buy a capable LB. Dalot is far from a great RB, he is even worse out of position, as an LB

Same for Yoro. He was only playing RB because we had too many players missing. His physical attributes doesn't make him a great RB. He was bought to be a CB and needs to become better at that

Think it will be Heaven - Maguire, maybe Yoro starts at RB.

Start both.
Not entirely against it, but don’t think they’re quite ready yet, next season? sure.
Heaven - Maguire
Martinez - Yoro
I think these are the CB pairings that seem sensible as of now.

Martinez and Maguire are way too slow to start together I reckon and on top of that with Shaw at LB I don’t see how Carrick’s 4-2-4 out of possession setup works in the PL.

Does not matter if they are not fully ready. I rather watch a motived young talent gaining experience than a washed up past it player
