Leny Yoro | 2026/27 Performances

I feel Yoro needs to just be given an extended run the team, at center back.

This year he has to prove his worth, and he won’t do that by occasionally coming on as right back.

Exactly this. He won't develop by being given a few minutes or sporadic games here and there either.

This club needs to get over its Maguire addiction. He's only valued because the team is so shit, we pick a centre back largely for his ability to score a late goal when we're losing to a relegation team.

He also defended better than Yoro last season. Plenty of chances and it didnt happen for him. Even Heaven did a bit better, granted it was less games and if he played as many he might have been the same as Yoro overall

Yoro will get games due to how many matches we will play an injuries in the backline. But if he plays like last season hes not taking his chances again

He's not in any way, deserved a run in the team though. He's made too many sloppy defending mistakes in his time here, for a manager to just give him an extended run in the team.

He's made over 50 appearances for us, when we're crying out for good defenders and he still can't nail a starting spot down. That's on Yoro, I'm afraid. Nothing to do with a Maguire addiction.

Maguire makes many mistakes. Yoro is young so of course he will make mistakes. Heaven also makes a lot of mistakes. Martinez made a mistake that led to conceding in the last match.

That's not a reason to play Yoro, though. They all have other things that they bring to the team. Heaven isn't ready either in my opinion - despite being a massive fan of his. I genuinely don't really know what Yoro offers to counteract the mistakes he might make.
 
Should maybe try him out at CB at some point

Our centre backs are pretty poor and have been for many years. Can we not give this guy a run at CB instead of seeing goal after goal being gifted away? Obviously full backs are an issue too
 
He's not a right back. Painfully fecking obvious as it was when trying him there cost us the game at Villa Park last year.

As leaky as our defence is, it would be shambolic with Yoro in it. He was a liability any time he played last season.

For the money we paid on him, I'd have honestly preferred to sign Dan Ballard for half the price. A big strong old fashioned British central defender who can actually defend!

So it’s not his fault he gives the ball away because he isn’t in a part of the pitch he’s not familiar with ?
 
He's obvious not useless, but given he was hailed as a generational CB talent - its a hefty drop down in what we were expecting.

I know he played alright in preseason at RB, but he's clearly not a RB offensively. Looks like he panics due to the lack of offensive technical abilities.
It's a big season for him to take on these chances when he gets them - Maguire and Martinez will inevitably get injuries at some stages, especially with more games. He, along with Heaven, can't be bottling these chances while De Ligt is already on the surge of returning.
 
He often is too passive imo, which might me a confidence thing but he just tries to escort the opposition players until they can take a shot. He really needs to be more aggressive if we wants to make it an the PL.
 
A young defender who has barely featured chucked into a position that's not natural to him and he doesn't play very well, I'm not shocked and it further underlines our need for another fullback as he clearly doesn't rate Amass.
 
Safe to say this move has beena disaster for him. The two things a young player needs are minutes and fitness. And he has severely lacked in both

It’s not even a bad pass if Šeško believes in him and makes the run (could’ve been offside but you’d have to check it separately). Picking the safest option and hoping for a cross isn’t always the best option.
 
Well he's not a RB, and wouldnt have to play there if we werent "keeping our powder dry" for Hall next year. It is what it is.
 
He needs a run of games, ideally a loan spell for a season would be perfect, but we just can't afford to do that right now.
 
People laughed when I said the summer 2024 window was our worst ever, right up there with the summer 2023 flops.

De Ligt (£38.5m)
Zirkzee (£36.5m)
Mazraoui (£12.8m)

Not a single player here has achieved anything for the club. Mazraoui leads the group with a mere 60 EPL appearances, while everyone else sits below 60 3rd season since they signed.

When Zirkzee has more appearances (56) than Ugarte (51), Yoro (55), and De Ligt (42), that tells you everything.

Absolute disaster. All this players need replacing in 1 years time, 3 years after being signed.
 
Forget the poor pass he made, where we could have scored the third and wrapped up the game. What he did for the 2nd goal, really infuriated me. He left their Left winger in acres and space and collapsed back as a third CB. It gave them soo much time to just pick and choose a cross and allowed them to have a shot at goal. The best course of action is always stopping the cross and make it difficult for the winger to get a cross in. He is just a passive player, not somebody you want as a RB. This experiment needs to stop period.
 
I'm all for signing promising players but you have to be in the right situation for them. Spending 70m on a 18 year old center back when we were at peak chaos, unsettled at all levels of the club was always a bad idea. It was a shit use of money if we're honest. He's nowhere near ready to being a regular starters here and I don't think he has the right aggression or strength to ever become that in the prem if I'm honest.

The more i got older the more i realised Mourinho was onto something with his “boomers” preference.
 
The way he plays reminds me quite a bit of AWB. Even with the way he controls the ball with his feet. It's make or break season for him here I think.
 
He is still exceptionally young and hopefully will start more cup games and gain experience. It is hard to expect players to jump in cold and make an impact, especially inexperienced ones. Our biggest issue has been not having a top quality stalwart that could play alongside Yoro or Heaven and help guide them through. De Ligt and Martinez have both had long spells injured and Maguire should not be 1st choice.

A true top quality CB can really help coach young or lesser players through games, we saw this with VVD over the years and with Rio, who made Silvestre look way better when he was alongside Rio. If Yoro and Heaven had a Rio to play alongside, they would look a lot better and get valuable experience.

I worry that he’s picked up a lot of bad defensive habits playing with this current group.

We signed an aggressive front foot defender and paired him with more senior players that prefer to be a little more passive and drop a little deeper. I suspect a lot of his issues boil down to him being caught in two minds.

He could be a very different player if he developed in that Arsenal back line. Every player’s happy to be aggressive and high knowing their defensive partners can cover the space left behind.

He's probably thinking he should've stayed at Lille for another season then joined Madrid on a free, as was his initial plan.
