Why? Thiago and Alaba have just left Bayern that's proof that players will leave Bayern for new challenges/better contracts

Lewandowski has been flirting with leaving for years as well

If Goretzka has already been offered a better contract elsewhere that's probably the minimum Bayern need to meet to get him to stay
He is German, and still relatively young. Bayern has one of the best squad in the world, more chance of trophy than us, and he still has long contract with Bayern.

Ok you clearly don't know what you're talking about then as the only reason this story has even emerged is because he's only got 12 months left on his contract

Money is thicker than water. If Bayern dont pay him more then Goretzka will leave.

Now if that is to us, thats another matter.

Even speaking to an agent is tapping up. Any communication with a representative of the player, or the player himself, without permission from the club is considered tapping up.

It's just really common nowadays so it's accepted, just in the very few cases that the club gets annoyed that they report it (and if they have proof).
It has to be pretty egregious like when Klopp was meeting with VVD and doing WhatsApp tactics to him

pretty much. no one's staying on significantly lower wages than they are on elsewhere/folks like Sane are on just because Bayern is the dogs bollocks in Germany. He left Schalke for Bayern, on a free and people think he'll not do the same to bayern because erm, Bayern Munich?

Bayern risk having to start upping what they pay for wages or maybe they will leak more talent going by what's happening there over the last year or so. I think he'll get the contract he wants at Bayern or go somewhere else, but I don't think it'll be us.

As a very keen muppet, I remain unmoved and ultimately uninterested in this at this time.

Even so, this does not necessarily increase our odds of signing him from Bayern.

Of course it does.
With his contract running down he's exploring his options. Footballers, and most people, like money.
It's highly likely that if a club offers him significant pay rise, his head would turn.

If Bayern however match the best offer on table for him, I'd be shocked if he leaves them.

People shouldn't be too discouraged by this saying that it's only for contact negotiations. A very similar situation was there for Kroos in 2014.

Bayern signed Gotze the season before and he was on a lot of money, Kroos had one year left and during contract negotiations wanted to be on the same payroll as Gotze. Gotze came off a decent but not amazing season so there was validity for Kroos wanting as much money given he was with Bayern for longer and had better performances. In the end Bayern didn't want to pay him that much and were forced to sell him to Madrid for a very low fee.

Jump to 2021, Bayern signed Sane the season before and is on a lot of money (300k per week rumoured). Goretzka has one year left on his contract and wants to be atleast on the same payroll as Sane. Sane has come of a disappointing season so there is validity for Goretzka wanting as much given he's been with Bayern for longer and has had much better performances. If Bayern can't agree a deal for Goretzka, like they didn't for Kroos, they would be forced to sell him for a low fee.

The potential differences between then and now is:

1) Bayern already had Thiago, who was very highly rated and similar to Kroos, so a replacement wasn't an issue. Bayern right now don't have a highly rated replacement for Goretzka and would need to go to the market to get one. Given they are cash strapped due to Covid, it would be difficult for them to buy a star with Goretzkas potential.

2) Neither the Bayern board nor the fans really rated Kroos then (sadly). Thiago and Gotze were considered better prospects and therefore people though Kroos was going above his ability when he asked for as much money as Gotze. Therefore they were more willing to let Kroos go. Goretzka though is really highly rated by both the management and fans and therefore they would be more willing to give him what he wants, rumours though say they have doubts over his injury record and therefore don't want to give him a lot of money.

Obviously not 100% the same as the Kroos situation, but definitely hope that Bayern would be forced to sell if they can't agree to a new deal.

This isn't just about how much Bayern want to keep Goretzka either, it's also a question about their wage structure in general. E.g. if Goretzka gets a big wage hike Kimmich will want the same and then maybe Gnabry and so forth.

Well if Sane is truly earning that much then they deserve double of what he's getting.

It's funny when you consider how bad Sane has been for Bayern as well. A transfer to destroy the club internally

I genuinely believe United and Real are interested. He is just a very, very good player with a very short lease, so it makes sense.

Right, we will definitely sign him because as he is on his last year of contract, just like Camavinga did with us lately. Well done son with you great logic and assumption :wenger:

Apparently he could wait till his contract runs out and get a higher offer anywhere, if money is his top priority. Where do you get this confidence he wants to join us now?

Would be kind of funny, if they lose him the same way they acquired him.

Sign Goretzka & Ndidi then i'd be more than happy to see us line up in a 4-3-3 formation... Henderson... Wan-Bissaka... Varane... Maguire... Shaw... Goretzka... Ndidi... Bruno... Sancho... Cavani... Rashford.

Sign a year earlier for a bigger contract to safeguard his future. Never know when one might suffer a bad injury or something.

Seems thats not the common trend for most major players who have 1 year contract remaining this summer though.

But it is very risky....long-term injury and you are fecked for a massive new contract.
There's a thing called pre-contract in January, and normally even with few months out of injuries it normally wouldn't discourage clubs from singing top players for free, as this could save them tens or hundreds of millions. Would you not try to sign Mbappe for free if he is out with injury for months, and rather not risk a few weeks or months of salary and watching him signing for our rivals instead?

Great player and would suit the prem perfectly. Just feels like it will never happen though.

Can see him at Chelsea for some reason.

Would love to be wrong.

Mbappe yes.

But Alaba could have got a injury in May (Out for 7-8 months) and then i doubt Real Madrid would have given him this apparently massive contract.

Happily replace Pogba with him, should he truly want to come here or if he’s just playing contract shenanigans.

Would be some statement to land a good Bayern player and a good Real player in one summer.

this isn't happening this summer, it's one for a year from now assuming he hasn't signed a new contract with Bayern

Plus, some players (people, really) don't quite like the uncertainty of not knowing where they'll be in a years time? It can be difficult spending an entire season playing football whilst also deciding which team you'll join on a free transfer.

I believe Bayern would let him go than give into his demands. If they give in, Kimmich(2023) is next.
However, I don't believe Bayern will negotiate for his sale this summer. They let Thiago, Kroos go because they felt they had replacements in the squad. They don't now and I think they will make a sporting decsison to let him see out his contract.

Unless we are getting at least £60-£65m for Pogba this summer to get his replacement in now, then I would prefer to let Pogba go on a free next summer if we knew for certain, unless he suffers a major injury, that Goretzka wants to come to us and then get him in to replace Pogba.
