I have the same feeling.
Oh? It wasn't very clear where you stood in the issue.
Buying Bale would be a bug mistake. But Bale+Isco+ 20 Million £ for Paul would be a good deal!
The closer it gets to the start of the season and the flatter the summer has been, you watch every fecker on here say, "Just do it, Ed!"
It's weird that it seems to bother you as it's not exactly a controversial opinion, it's a fact that he wasn't always happy with the fans.
It happens elsewhere and there are more extreme examples but I don't get why you've taken issue with the suggestion it wasn't always a good relationship.
Again, not the impression I get - but who really cares.
Its worth emphasising here that, for me at least, my opinion that signing Bale would be a good decision is completely driven by the terms of any deal suiting United. Should we be paying his full salary? Absolutely not.
We are in a remarkably similar position with Sanchez and our best chance of getting rid is to loan him out and get half of his salary off the books - then if he impresses elsewhere he will be of some value. Its the same with Bale. His dilemma now is actually a question of whether he wants to retire from football, because if he sits on this contract he is done as a high level player when it ends. Zidane wont use him at all - he will be/is already an outcast at Madrid.
My position is that a €10m loan fee and a similar contribution in salary is actually a decent gamble, and one I would prefer us to take over any of our direct rivals. The potential upside - Bale performing at or near his best - far outweighs the prospect of our going into yet another season with little threat from the right.
If he hits top form
if he stays injury free
if he magically becomes a monster once he puts his foot on British land
if he plays super awesome
if it was still 2013
Can't post anything supporting the move without throwing a truck load of magical "if" scenarios
I’d sign him just to parade him around Anfield with a big crown on, wearing a T-shirt that says “King Gareth. Slayer of scousers”
Yeah but he was good in 2013 bro
Apart from his obvious injury concerns, and whether he can adapt his game once his pace starts to go, which I think he will. My major concern is his mindset, he hasn't wanted to come here in the past. He's made it perfectly clear he wants to stay at Real Madrid. Ole has made a point about buying players with the right mindset. The only way Bale comes here is like Sanchez and Rat Face for the money and we saw how that worked out. Not saying players who move for money can't be a success, but I'd rather get back to getting players who see us as a step up. I don't think Bale sees us that way. I don't think he has the hunger we need going forward.
Because it was. A couple isolated incidents of frustration don't make for a turbulent relationship.
Gareth Bale, he has had a turbulent relationship with us. That's what a turbulent relationship looks like
Can you give us some more details? From what I know - meaning what is being said in articles which may or may not be true - is that he doesn't communicate much with his team members and speaks little Spanish despite his time at Real.
For me that is a big 'No No' when you live in a foreign country. I also suspect Gareth wants to keep aloof from his team mates and while you can get away with that in some football clubs and leagues. I doubt it is appreciated at Real Madrid.
I just read somewhere today Gareth is 30 this year? How old is he really?
Oh yes and Manchester United should step in and be the donkey that takes on one of the players in Bale that they are desperate to get rid of because of unsustainable wages, performance to salary ratio, attitude and being at the wrong end of his 20s to boot.
Stupidity by Manchester United - ooh yes please, as fans what's not to love about being Real Madrid's useful idiot?
If you read my post it says if we can get Bale cheaply on a loan i wouldn’t be against it.
Utd have the upper hand in negotiations if they want Bale, and can then get Bale at the right price.
Given Real really want to get rid of him, especially with Hazard coming in, there is potential for a deal where Utd just pay a proportion of his wages. Nothing wrong with that.
In hindsight I think you're probably just viewing 'turbulent' much more negatively then I do. Essentially my point was that even a player so consistently brilliant as Ronaldo didn't have a completely smooth ride (we can agree to disagree on how smooth) so I have little hope for Bale.
He's 30 in five weeks.
Yes I read your post again, I get it.
But do we really need him at his age with his injury history? I did some research and he's had 22 injuries since arriving at Real Madrid and eight of them were to do with one of his calf muscles. BTW - he is not 27 as some on here seem to think, he's older.
The attitude wouldn't matter so much as it seems to be a specific reaction to a different cultural environment. Supposedly Gareth won't even greet the club with a Spanish 'Good morning'. preferring to use English. He's probably not the brightest spark and it seems UK players mostly don't want to spend time learning another language unlike European players who have the advantage of living on the continent and often know at least some English as well as another language and their native language.
Gareth's obsession with golf seems a disadvantage. Of course some United people love the game too but apparently Real were furious with him playing every week especially when injured because of what it could do to his back. His diva antics in refusing to celebrate goals with team mates also don't make him look good.
He prefers not to see his team mates socially although that is expected at Real Madrid. However, I am sure United players wouldn't care less if Gareth went out on social occasions with them or not.
The feeling I get about him is he is not the brightest of people. And I agree with those on here who want players who really want to play for Manchester United. Bale would only want to play for us because of lack of options. In other words more a mercenary than somebody passionate about playing for this club.
Keep him away from Old Trafford.
I get no sense that Gareth Bale has any passion for putting on the Manchester United shirt. People can reply to that by saying why should he, he has played for Real Madrid.
That's fine but exactly why I don't want him. He is running out of options it seems. We'd be stupid to go near him.
I don't see why what Bale said about his preference of Real Madrid over United is so badly taken.
Bale is Welsh and going to United from Spurs was the most obvious and easiest move the lad could make. Likewise soon as Bale started making his steps up it became obvious to everyone that United would be the team that should go for him - considering his position, his nationality & his specialties.
It all linked with Bale & United. However I could always see why the Lad would want to go to Real Madrid over United. The guy didn't want to do things the traditional Welsh & British club way and wanted to test himself abroad alongside the likes of Ronaldo & Messi at Real Madrid - arguably the most signified club in the world.
What he said about preferring Madrid over United before doesn't effect me because I really doubt that the transfer to United wouldn't be what he would want after his time at Madrid is over.
If we sign him in any format other than on a free with modest wages then we have not learned one thing from the last 6 years of spunking money down the drain
I don't think his Real preference over Utd is badly taken, it's just there is a genuine concern when a player at a massive club like Real is forced out to a club he doesn't really want to go to, will the hunger and drive be there. No-one for sure can say he wouldn't have that drive, it's just the recent example of Di Maria is still very fresh. Also the noise Ole has been making about players with the correct mindset, a move for Bale doesn't really jive with that. There would still be a concern this is a Woodward driven deal. Also buying older "world class" players who seem to be on the downward spiral and on huge money, the Sanchez deal is also fresh.I think our fans are much more cautious these days due to recent experiences.
Yep, if we are sadly getting Bale then Madrid have allegedly said they'll let him go on a free transfer. We should not be paying more than ~280k wages. I don't think we should bother though, I question his desire to play for us.
I think he should tough it out at Madrid, collect his wages and do what he can as a sub. Zidane will use him once the season starts.
This won't happen till the last day of EPL's transfer window. Bale obviously is trying to make Real Madrid difficult and also lose a lot of money trying to force him out. Therefore he keeps saying he wants to stay even though I am sure he is not. In the meantime Man Utd probably is not in a rush either until later in the window and see how their transfer business go. So far not looking good though as lots of transfer target either not interest moving to Utd given the current state of the squad, or too expensive for the quality of the mentioned players. Deadline is August 9 so there is still alot of time left.
To be honest, Ryan Giggs probably has first hand info about the condition of Bale right now.
I don't know what the hell is going to happen with him but he isn't as bad as media in Spain try to make him appear, the guy just wants to stay in Real Madrid and for some reason Zidane and the club wants him out. Maybe to have some cash and free space for a new signing but despite getting injured a lot he has had a lot of good performances with the team, it's just not have been very consistent and now that he's fit Zidane wouldn't start him. So he's in a rough spot and the best for him at this point in his career would be to be in a team he can actually get play time regularly.
Wherever he goes, he’ll be determined to build himself back up after being turfed out of Madrid. Sadly, he’ll likely be expensive, ageing, and injury prone.
As others have said, worth a punt, but only if he’s cheap and willing to take a pay cut.
there isn't much more to say. Bale has been mostly great, but also injured a lot, had a number of horrible high profile performances, kept the spanish golden boy out or the team, and in 3 of the 5 seasons of the BBC, the team just looked better without him. It's been a love/hate relationship starting from year two, with the mood swinging wildly from game to game depending on his performances. As i said, irrational
He personally never really connected with the fans or the club. His inability to speak spanish was a major blow in that regard. Plus he's always come across as too aloof. Like, i don't know, like he didn't care enough, or something
With empathy I would tell you to close the thread and fire it.
Not even that option of loan with conditions.
Use that money to drive Sancho crazy or any star from another premier league team.
This is extensible to James.
I honestly think that Llorente could be the only profitable player for you(I mean including them in a transfer with Pogba).
For the posters who talk that it is ok if we are getting Bale on cheap on loan - What is the amount you are looking at?
After watching him tonight I hope we stay well away.
Its only Wales game but he looks done as a player.
Can't believe people want him in any kind of deal.
The guy is finished at the top level, still wouldn’t surprise me me if Walt Disney Woodward signed him though once every other target dismisses us unless we pay them 500k a week.
Is he a better golfer than footballer now?
If he can't play golf then probably
I think I might prefer to have Bale over Sanchez? Will Real take Sanchez back?
How about a swap, Bale+ Ascencio+ Isco for Pogba and Sanchez?
Last heard he found golf too stressful, he is planning to try his hand at mini-golf instead.
Im very much in the:
Loan - Good move, high profile player, could attract other players, be good for the younger players to learn from. Not really seen much of him this season but Im sure he could still be a really good player for us this year even if it were for 20-30games max
Buy - Hell no
- I think on loan he'd be outstanding.
- Might take him 10 games to get up to speed.
- He's suited to the Premier league where his explosive pace can be exploited best.
- The likes of Robben and Ibrahimovich mostly flopped in La Liga only to explode again as soon as they left. Thierry Henry was by a mile the best player in the PL and looked average when he went to La Liga.
- I don't think the Glazers would consider a loan deal unless they offloaded Alexis first.
