Let's talk 'keepers: who do we buy and why?

It really surprised me that this is not our top priority. I really can't watch another season with Onana in the goal. I have zero confidence in him. The worst GK we ever had worse than Taibi.

Martinez is the worst keeper to chose from all the available. Hell cost 25m and is declining. I'd rather hijack Maignan or go aftera younger talent like Chevalier or Lammens.

Maybe he just needs a fresh challenge

Never a dull moment with him though. He's a character

Must be joking if we are in for Martinez for that price. Replacing a joker with an older joker and lost money while doing it.

Exactly my thoughts, I think Martinez is still living off of THAT WC save... he's not as good as some people think he is. As I've said here before, yes he's better than Onana in goal, but a fecking stick is better than Onana.

What about ter Stegen?
I like the idea of singing a more experienced goalkeeper this summer. It seems our budget will be taken up by prioritising attacking players which leaves little to try and spend big on a long highly rated young keepers.

Onana needs replacing, I think everyone agrees on this. By signing an older more experienced keeper would hopefully add a sense of calmness to the back line and be within our grasp in terms of budget.

Next summer we can then potentially look into the market for a more log term option.

Ter Stegen seems like he would fit this criteria, especially with Barca singing Garcia. Although I understand some posters have raised concerns of his form lately.

For £5mil is he worth buying as competition for Onana?

He's certainly better than Onana. It's clearly not going to happen though, or something would have likely already been agreed considering Chelsea owe that amount for sending Sancho back.

He was injured most of last season and is being forces out of the club currenlty, a bit similar to Frenkie two years ago.. He was always had a difficult relationship with Flick..

I dont recall there were signs or decrease before his injury.. Still only 33 yo..

I obviously wouldnt go all in for hin, but in case Barca wants to get rid its worth keeping track of the situation..

So Arsenal apparently want Kepa as no2. For £5mil I would have him at Utd as a stopgap till we could afford a proper replacement for Onana and can get someone to buy him.

Signing Ter Stegen or Emi Martinez at this point would be a silly move from us, there are better options out there.

Well I agree, but it also depends on how the market develops over the summer.. Who are available at which point during the summer and for which fees, who will be willing to join us, will there be clubs for Onana and when.. Where are our other priorities, who are we able to sell and raise funds.. What can we spend at which point in time..

Overall timing is very important and a huge factor on who will be feasible options.. It makes sense to keep track and a close eye on multiple options during the summer so you can hopefully act fast when the opportunity is there..

We need to accept no one is buying Onana for anything other than a token fee.

Kepa who proved himself in the PL last season is going for £5m and if he’s goes to Arsenal would be a no 2 and he’s clearly far better than Onana.

The plus point is that it’s pretty simple to improve on Onana, and that’s the main thing.

Unfortunately we are stuck with the 4th most expensive keeper of all time.

Wow.. Ter Stegen, Kepa.. those names. I wouldn't want any of them if I know that the likes of Maignan, Chevalier, Lammens, etc are available. Emi Martinez would be decent but too expensive (wages) and declining too.

Im presuming bayindir is leaving this summer. Yeah no one it seems wants Onana. Get Kepa in for £5mil and let them battle it out for game time. Some actual competition might make Onana perform better.

We have to live in the reality that there are probably a lot more clubs after the names you mention which might be a lot more appealing to them these days..

Martinez wouldnt really be an upgrade at this point, we need someone better and more longterm

Kepa for £5M as a backup is a no brainer, great deal for Arsenal. You guys need both a starting and a backup GK, your board should have been all over it.
