Let's talk 'keepers: who do we buy and why?

Good boys from your board listening to me
I'd prefer he go to United instead of City, dont think Ederson is washed so same problem than with PSG sitting on the bench.
But with the noise around Donnarumma, Chevalier, the 2 Manchester clubs, there could be some musical chairs being played around GKs this summer.

What kind of keeper is he? Can't say I've ever consciously seen him play

He's a great shot stopper and that's his main strength, quick off his feet, great lateral jumping ability (if that makes any sense in english), good command of his box. He's also really good with his feet, Lille has often built from back this season by going through him. I'd say his biggest weakness is his tendency to stick to his line, he's clearly not a keeper-sweeper and not asked to be one at Lille. But after a decade of De Gea, Man United fans shouldnt be fussed by that.

Already sounds better than Onana

Maignan available for 25 million euros. That’s a no-brainer right? Why aren’t we all over him? Chelsea just bid 21 million euros says Sky Italia.

Ah I see. Thanks for that. Definitely weird and arbitrary, but I'd expect nothing less.

Sure, and I'll hold my hands up and say I was all for moving onto Onana from DDG, having only seen him a handful of times (and of course the final performance was fresh in our minds at the time). In hindsight it was a dreadful move, as I'm sure any professional could have identified his fundamental technical issues.

Similarly I haven't seen Maignan for long enough to say whether he is consistently elite, only that he's been excellent when I have watched Milan. Them being happy to sell him for such a low fee is a bit of a red flag, though I believe it's partly down to his contract situation.

Of the guys you've suggested there I've always been impressed by Pope. It'd be pretty uninspiring but a solid upgrade nevertheless, which would do just fine with where we're at currently. Martinez is also world class at times of course, but Villa fans seem to think he's on the downhill slide and I wonder what kind of wages he'd be asking to come here. He's also a lunatic of course, which isn't really what I want from a keeper (Give me VDS back, please).

The rest wouldn't be the best options I think, but I agree that if we can bring in a solid PL proven keeper for a decent fee with little fuss that'd be great. Flekken would have been good, Pope would work, I quite like Hermansen from Leicester if he'd be cheap.
I know Martinez is a lunatic (and more) but he'd be our lunatic... Peter S wasn't 100% cent 100% of the time! Flekken has gone elsewhere, thank goodness - a friend who has season ticket at Brentford says he was awful last season

Don't make this complicated, go and get Senne Lammens, it's already been stated we've extensively looked at this guy so he's likely high on our list

If Chelsea truly are giving up on Maignan at £20 million I dont see how we're not in on that. We MUST be able to scrap £20 million together for that on top of our other needs because he would be such an immediate and instant upgrade that provides what - 10-15 points over a season? You'd have to take that over even something like a midfielder at the moment Onana is just that bad.

Agree. even if he had a bad form last season, he is a top GK, unlike Onana who is just not good enough. Also better than Martinez. Unless we plan to sign a younger GK we should be all over him.

Haha, yeah I get that. I can see why some would want him to be our nutter - I'm not sure that's the ideal fit for what we need personally.

Cool, calm, experienced, solid 95% of the time is what I'd love at the moment. Give the defence that confidence to build off and we go up a notch or two immediately. Find us another VDS basically, not asking much ey ..

Of course, if the choice is Martinez or Onana next season 100% yes, please give us the Argie maniac. He'd improve us massively.

We should absolutely be all over Maignan at that price, top keeper.

Don’t we will buy a top keeper until the clown in chief has gone. I think if anything we end up buying a good understudy. We need to get rid our our GKs quick.
We won’t be getting any money for Onana. So he could stay on the bench. Best we can hope he goes out on loan.

Ideally we need two keepers. Would sell Bayindor first and bring in a new no 1. If by some miracle someone came in for Onana, would be easy to buy a cheap no 2 at any time.

Chevalier for me. Has great technique, agility and has a very active/aggressive style that puts pressure on the forwards to think fast. Reminds me a little of Schmeichel.

He'd be a great buy, but I don't think he'd want to join a bottom 10 PL team when a team like City are after him. That, and I can't see United splashing €60m+ on a goalkeeper.

A lot of people are saying no, but I'd take Martinez if he's available on the cheap and willing to join. He'd be a massive improvement on Doink The Clown. We could do with a PL-proven keeper to come and do a quick fix, which would then allow us to spend more funds on the midfield and strikers.

PSG are looking to sell Donnaruma so they can sign Chevalier which tells you exactly who we should be looking to buy.

Maybe we will as he sounds like competition for Onana

We're not in Europe, though.

Who is this Bulka guy, anyway?
Doesn't matter.

Furthermore, as additional evidence of their independence, the concerned clubs committed to the following:

• the clubs will not transfer players to each other, whether permanently or on loan, directly or indirectly, from July 2024 until September 2025, with the exception of pre-existing transfer agreements that had been entered into before the opening of the CFCB proceedings;

25 y/o Nice keeper, used to be a backup to Navas in Paris but he's become one of the better ones in the league and dropped a 10/10 performance against the European champions during the season.
