Let's talk 'keepers: who do we buy and why?

Lammens value on Transfermkt is €9m, however they are apparently looking for between €20m-€25m. So thinking sell Bayindir then meet somewhere in the middle.

I wonder how open would Ter Stegen be in joining us...
The only thing Ter Stegen is probably better dealing with is the pressure - but is he really that much of an upgrade when he benefited from have one of the best European defensive lines in front of him during many of his seasons there? I m not convinced.

If we can move Onana for about 25 million, Costa would be a big upgrade.
Would he? I can't claim to watch him every week but he was pretty bad in the last World Cup and dropped two massive clangers against us in the Europa last season.

Sadly it's a season where I think a keeper comes in if a bit of the rest can be done first.. Next season or Jan maybe not in summer ..

Could we not buy that French guy that Chelsea passed on?

Got to be better than Onana (admittedly not a high bar).

I think we are done after Mbeumo assuming that gets completed. Then, I think we go for a striker IF we can make sales to cover it. If we can make a good amount of sales (not likely) then we can look at a midfielder too. I don't think there's any chance that we make enough money to go for a keeper so Onana is safe.

Gotta admit I've only watched Barca vs Inter's two legs, but deary me that defensive line was not one of the best european defensive lines in those two games. So much space, so little leadership.

Yeah this season it def wasnt great, but his stats also suffered for it. Before that though is a different story.

Nah, not Kepa. Being better than our two shambles is no great accolade. He’s consistently wilted under the spotlight; didn’t do it at Chelsea and got ousted by Lunin at Real when Courtois was injured.

As a backup to a good number 1, like Raya, he’s a good pickup, but nothing more than that. We can do better on a similar budget (his wages won’t be cheap for a number 2)

Can't believe we didn't take a punt on Kepa for £5m. He's better than both our current keepers and £5m is a steal.
He’d probably have picked Arse over us anyway. Getting to stay in London is a big plus, especially if his family is settled (I don’t know if that’s the case, but assuming).

Not that we shouldn’t have tried regardless.

What about Costa? Didnt hear much about him these days.

I feel Goalkeeper as a higher priority than striker. There were so many games last season where we looked to be in control until Onana let one in. Letting in a stupid goal against run of play is 10 times more deflating than our forwards missing an open goal. I need to start wear adult diaper if Onana continues to be our starting keeper next season.

Porto are open to selling him but looking at €60M.

Costa is a bit expensive so so far no offers.
Porto want 50m euros plus add ons and wants to sell.

We could use Garnacho, Anthony or Rashford, maybe put one of them in the mix? Doubt they would want to play for us though.

Why would Onana choose to leave Utd unless it is for more money?
We are not getting anyone in until there is serious interest in Onana and I cannot see that happening.

Adult diapers it is. I can imagine how many times im gonna pee myself each a cross comes in next season.

Oh come one. Ter Stegen can be De Gea esque on the line. Incredible GK more often than not.

This prioritization is all wrong for me.

GK should be way down the pecking order. Our problem is and has been (for years) that we don't score enough. We were 16th in GF and joint 11th in GA this season, and the gap has prevalent for years now. In Onana's first season we were 9th or 10th best attack but the 5th best defense in the league.

I'd put GK below securing another #10, a striker, and a midfielder. I'll assume Amad will play RWB so that's fine, but GK might even be below another LWB by January if Dorgu doesn't improve quickly.

But the goal threat has sorta been addressed with Cunha and Mbeumo. I think Sporting is asking for too much money, why not use the money to address goalkeeping hole?

Because we still don’t have a striker who can score goals. So that’s 1/3 of our forward line that can still make significant incremental contributions to our goal tally.

A striker who scores 12-15 league goals and gets 5 assists per season would lift our goal tally by 8+ goals, which (and some people won’t want to admit this) is more goals than Onana was definitively at fault for in the league this season.

For me, this is simple. Our GD will be benefitted more by making investments elsewhere on the pitch. Onana is not a good keeper, and he was terrible value from an acquisition price perspective. But his performance relative to a good keeper simply won’t make as much of a difference as other positions - mostly because we are so poor in so many places.

That's long time ago. He is not that good anymore. Plus he would want stupid wages.
Ter Stegen is still actually pretty good. He's only 33 which is not that old for a goalkeeper and he still has a couple of more years at the top level. Remember, he needs minutes because of the World Cup and he's a no.1 GK for Germany. According to Transfermarkt he's worth around 12 million euros which is honestly a bargain for a goalkeeper of that quality. I would rather buy him than Emi Martinez. My first GK choice would be Costa but he's too damn expensive (60 million euros).

L'equipe mentioned 120k gross in a recent article about Monaco GK's search as they said he was very affordable for Monaco (since they can offer 70k net)
Yeah that would make sense, €120k should be close to the amount I read in GBP
