I've read and watched a lot since the news (not so secret) broke about the stadium plan*. I'm hearing lots that's positive but also quite a bit about the design, talk of how it fails the heritage test and is just another events bowl.
I'm unequivocal: finally shedding the long-run destruction of the Glazer era - decay on the pitch as well as decay in infrastructure - is going to require a bold, ambitious, compelling, vision. One we can get behind in the hope that things will change, where the Glazers finally exit the stage and new ownership - whether that's INEOS, some future INEOS partnership , or some new group yet to emerge - begin to rebuild and realise our future potential. I'm no ingenue on how hard it is to do this stuff and, like all of us, I'm in despair at just how far we've fallen on the pitch, but we need to do it. We remain - by some distance - one of THE biggest sporting teams worldwide and we could and should amongst the most profitable clubs out there.
The current Old Trafford - even a refurbished Old Trafford - is a barrier to this. Sure, we have an amazing heritage but everything changes and we have to move on from the past and step into the future. If there's a realistic chance of this happening based having the right conditions in place (and don't underestimate what will need to align and where, even then, we'll need our share of luck), we absolutely have to take it.
Your thoughts?
*Also, it was nice (and slightly strange) to open my phone on the commute and see us all over the media in a positive light.
