Lewis Hall

The Amass talk is weird. He looked average enough in a few pre season games. Hall is light years ahead of him.

Hall would be a great signing and one we need to get done.
My prediction is he will never make it at United. The hype he had was from a few years ago but he has not developed enough. Hall is a no brainer for so many reasons

I understand the want for a LB, but I think I want someone who's entering their prime or in their prime. Nothing wrong with Hall, but I feel that there's gotta be someone else who's a little bit older and experienced that can rotate with Shaw. I don't think Newcastle is going to sell him this summer, he's got 3 years left, I think we're just making in roads for next summer. I also think he'll cost too much, Newcastle has no reason to help us and they'll probably want more than double they paid for. He's not worth 60M, not even 50M, at least not yet

Was blown away by him the first few times I saw him play for Chelsea, thought they were idiots to let him go. Would love him here, and anything between 50 and 65 million is worth it to me. He has the ability to be our first LB for a very long time.

Do you realize that players can mature sooner these days and mostly based on the minutes they have in their legs. Hall plays premier league for 2 and a half season at a very high level already. If anything he will improve with us, and will have higher reselling value if things dont work out. It's a good time to buy him at 21. Shaw started in Prem much sooner, didnt stop him to be very good fullback right from the beginning.

He reminds me a bit of Lamptey. I'm not sure physcially he'll be the level we want to be a starter. I think Hall makes so much sense.

They don't have Dalot playing 38 games either. Sub for odd game at best.
The Dalot-slander is out of hand. He's absolutely a serviceable right back for a title-winning team. There's about 3-4 players in the PL playing right back that I would say are definitely better than him: Jurrien Timber, Pedro Porro and Reece James (arguably the best RB in the world, but too injury-prone sadly). The rest is much of a muchness. Would it be possible to upgrade? Sure. But with Nous and Dalot, I'd say RB is about 8th-9th on the priority-list. The return on investment from buying someone like say Tino Livramento is very low compared to getting players in the midfield, CB, LB, ST or LW.

Surprised there are some who don’t see the hype with him. He’s someone I watch and instantly see that his technical ability is higher than most on the pitch. His dribbling, first touch and passing are all at a high level.

Maybe he doesn’t stand out as much to some because he’s not the physical dominant and rapid full back that a lot of the top teams desire but he’s a potential top player in my opinion.

He doesn’t look a natural defender to me but gets stuck in and is surprisingly good in duels from the games I’ve seen. I would worry about having him and Martinez as the left side of a defence. I would certainly want a CB more in the mould of a Gabriel or Gvardiol on that side.

It’s also exciting what he could do with Cunha, that is the main reason why this excites me. Cunha had a fantastic partnership with Ait-Nouri at Wolves and Hall is very similar to Ait-Nouri in playing style. For as good as Shaw has been this season, he’s much slower in getting up and down the pitch so Cunha is left isolated at times. Get Hall and our left side becomes as good as any in the league.

Maybe we could send Amass the opposite way as a player + cash option.

I remember seeing him as a 18 year old(something like that) playing for Chelsea in that disastrous Potter season and was impressed with his technical ability, as well as aggressiveness/tenacity. I don't really watch Newcastle, but if he's improved since then, signing him would be a no brainer - if the club really sees Dorgu as an attacker. Probably no other left back is better and gettable on the market.

I don't see why Newcastle would sell one of the brightest English talents. Are they that desperate with financials? They have Saudi owners for God sake.

He is also a Newcastle fan, if I am not mistaken. However, the media noise can not be ignored. I am puzzled tbf

Poor Harry Amass, a shiny new transfer usually trumps an academy lad in most fans eyes.

Hall aged 21 would kill off Amass aged 19, so you should only spend the £50M if you fell Harry wasn’t going to make it imo.
Amass is out of contract next summer

If he gets a new contract I expect him to go on loan, he’s had a few injuries recently and he needs game time to get over that spell. Hes not going to get it at United first team level

They need money and he’s fallen out with Howe.

Saudis are not investing into sport as much anymore due to the war in Iran financially costing them. They’ve pulled out of their golf setup, only a matter of time for football to follow I reckon

Caf overrating the academy players again. Pretty sure Tyler Blackett and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson were once deemed players we should be considering as serious first team players by some members a decade ago.

I think he’s fallen out with Howe too, which would strengthen our hand somewhat. I’d be interested to know Halls character though. We don’t need a chirpy little fecker who lacks discipline.

Howe seems to fall out with a lot of people so perhaps more a him problem there.

What's his style?

Does he usually overlap, underlap? Neither?

There aren't many players in his position who are better than Lewis Hall right now so I'm not sure why you'd be concerned about either of those things. He's 22 at the start of next season, has 3 seasons of experience playing at a good level in the Premier League behind him and did well when he tested himself in the Champions League this season. If we're going to sign a LB, he's about as much of a tap in as there is to get.

Stylistically I think there are quite a few similarities to the younger version of Luke Shaw as well, so he's kind of the perfect player to take on the mantle from him. Price could be an issue as it's Newcastle but there's no real point in skimping on quality if we can afford to sign the best.

I rate him a lot. Bit sceptical about all these links to Newcastle players though. They’re not going to sell that easy.

Ederson
Fernandes
Hall

This would be a good window on its own, I am of the opinion that Dorgu projects longer term as a left back but I think Hall is an improvement right now and can still find another couple of levels. It would be a great signing.

Well worth it yes, but anymore and he would be the world record for a full back. Does he really warrant a world record fee for a full back from a team that finished bottom half?

I don't think where Newcastle finished matters in the slightest tbh. He probably doesn't warrant a world record fee, but such figures and discussions are heavily distorted by the amount of money in English football relative to everywhere else.

Does he warrant a higher fee than Anthony Elanga? Such comparisons are all a bit context-less imo. What matters is whether he'd be good value for United. If there's someone available who is 90% as promising as Hall, but available for 25m, then buying Hall is probably not the right call.

I suppose in answer to your question, if he's well worth it than he does warrant the world record fee, on the basis that he's been well worth the fee.

Where the team finished doesn’t matter.

Obviously going back a long time, but we paid a British record for Roy Keane who has just been relegated.

Whether Hall is worth the fee is a different matter. In this day and age, you can argue that full backs have been undervalued.

£50-60m for a solid PL player of a good age with development potential seems a good deal - irrespective of transfer history.
