Lewis Hall

I’m complaining that theres no excitement. I want more of it.

The thread is a circle jerk - we need a LB, he’s young and british, looks like shaw, looks tidy, Newcastle are cnuts, raum instead, diouf is shit, west ham fan confirms it. Rinse and repeat.

@croadyman is the raum protagonist.
I'm not against Raum if we can't get this guy

Hmm, that just feels like hedging bets - interested, on radar. It doesnt come across as knowledgeable information on LB targets.
Maybe because he’s the top left back target and they’ve spoken to his agent so know this is a goer once they agree a deal with Newcastle, of all the journo’s out there BBC Sport and The Athletic are definitely two you don’t consider to be speculative or looking to fill pages with idle gossip.

As much as I'm lukewarm about Hall, I'm completely against Diouf.

He's bad at everything except for crossing. Defensively he seems a complete liability.

Even Hugo Bueno probably offers as much going forwards without being such a horror show at the back.
Seconded

That comment was a joke, I was explaining the circular nature of this thread.
However if you look at his Prague highlights theres some goals in there, he looks a clear level above in those highlights.
I personally feel goal threat across the team could elevate us more in the short term rather than well rounded players. But can respect the desire for the later type of player.

Why are you lukewarm about Hall just out of interest? He’s been one of the most consistent performers in a pretty shit Newcastle team this season. I suppose my only reservation is if he becomes truly world class, which you’d expect for the price tag, but his current ability and work ethic is exactly what we should be looking for across the whole pitch

Lewis Hall would be a brilliant signing - as much as I love Tonali, I can think of 5 obtainable midfielders who are about the same level as Tonali out there - I struggle to find 2 left-backs at the same level as Hall

Hall is clearly a lot better than Diouf at the moment. Sounds like some of you haven’t watched him play regularly.

You've answered your own question a bit there (and one which I've already covered in my previous posts in this thread).

He’s very similar to the young version of shaw but more importantly he’s levels about Diouf
Diouf got 5 assists last season, the season before 8 goals and 4 assists.
Whilst Hall might be more of an alrounder I think theres potential for Diouf to add goals.
Thats my only point.

Similiarly Dorgu’s chaotic style has won games, but people reject him due to lack of finesse.

I’ll also add truffert and Diouf entered the PL for under 20m, Kerkez before that and became highly rated.
We dont need to pay a PL tax to fill the role.

Diouf is pretty shit. Kerkez has underwhelmed since his big move.

Hall is a player who is already one of the best LBs in the league and has proven he can play very well even in the Champions League.

Looking at the table we don't really have a problem with scoring goals, especially under Carrick. But we do have a problem with conceding goals. I want us to have more defensive stability.

50 mill for one of the best young fullbacks around is probably what he’s worth in the current market. Only player I’d want from the toon that we’ve been linked to.

Diouf is a terrible defender

Any West Ham fans can vouch for him?
I watch most of the West Ham games. Over on Knees Up Mother Brown (West Ham fans forum), he is regarded higher by some than others...very much a jury still out with the lad.

West Ham actually have two potentially decent LBs. Diouf and Oli Scarles. The latter is probably a steadier defender at this stage but offers less going forward. Diouf has a confidence about his forward play, he drives into danger areas and whips over crosses that may not always be assist ready but does send in some decent service from the left flank. His engine is great and he covers ground easily...which saves him sometimes because his positional play is not the best. Defending needs work, that much is obvious. Strong enough physically but could maybe be better in the air given his size. Overall, a project but certainly has potential.

Diouf is a terrible defender
I saw most of his career at West Ham, he is far from defensively sound but "terrible" is possibly a tad harsh. Below par, for certain though...his defensive game needs a lot of work, he really would be a project signing. At this stage, he offers much more going forward.

Hall could easily follow Kerkez trajectory. (I doubt it).

West Ham have a terrible defence?
But again thats not my point - he offers unique attacking attributes.

Diouf is currently a very average player and is not suited to playing for a top side at all. He’s nowhere near good enough on the ball for United at the moment.

Thanks.
His highlights from Prague show that confidence to attack the box, it got him 8 goals.

I think unconventional players can make the difference between places at the top of the table.
Diouf might not be a long term starter, but he has that chaotic profile which could serve us as a backup to shaw next season and then with a more solid player going forward.

Diouf would frustrate United fans more than AWB and that’s saying something. Hes just not at the level we should be looking at if we want to progress

Do you feel the same about Dorgu?
I feel they offer something similiar in different ways.

I’m suggesting those goals can bridge 3-2-1st places when added to the whole.
Or adding value in the CL where I expect his flaws will be less exposed and his physical profile will be emphasized - ditto with Dorgu.

No because I hasnt seen much of Dorgu at his previous club. I have however seen enough of Diouf this season to know that we’d be wasting time and money chasing him. I’ve seen more crosses of his sailing over the bar than I have of him landing one. Hes very erratic, and isn’t a good defender in the basics. He would take too much time, coaching and patience to get where we need. Hall is so far ahead in his development, it’s not even close

£70mil, that's steep. Surely there are alternatives to him who are cheaper

I've rated Hall since I saw him playing for Chelsea and was disappointed we didn't make a move back then. His injuries area a concern for me, though. If he's big money and the club aren't convinced on his fitness, Kadioglu is a very good alternative with a similar game to Hall.

I don't think this is a runner this summer, there a bigger priorities to address and Newcastle would demand big money. Could be worth a revisit next summer though.
