Amass missed months of last season due to a torn hamstring and is only just regaining fitness so it’s not even a question between Hall and Amass, the better question is do we loan Amass out to assess whether we give him a new contract with Shaw being out of contract next summer ?Hall or Amass. Obvs Hall appears ready made. Shaw wasnt fit for his role years ago when always buggered, he started thinking he was lcb until Harry picked him up by the armpits and told him to feck off back to his own position

In that case I'd rather move him on now, with the buy-back. We really need to utilise that more. So many top clubs seem to take advantage of that.

Personally feel like both full backs should be prioritised before a 3rd midfielder. Get in 2 quality starters then sell Dalot or Maz, loan out Amass and use Shaw as back up LB and LCB.
Agreed, I think 2 new quality full backs would serve us better than the 3rd midfielder. We’re desperate for full backs that can attack and provide some assists.
Mainoo, Tielemans, Santos, plus Mount and Bruno at a push should be enough for 2 places. Use the youngsters in the cups as well.

True. He would immediately improve our width and attacking threat down the left and would likely also improve anyone playing ahead of him by providing consistent overlaps. Something we haven't seen from any of our fullbacks regularly.

I think I am at the stage where I would take a budget option as a 4th midfielder if it meant getting in Hall. His drive and threat from deep would transform the front like and I think he would be so dangerous letting cunha drift inside and link up play with him overlapping.

With all the noise around Bruno G to Arsenal, I can’t see Newcastle either needing or wanting to sell Hall. They’ll have brought in approx £260m for their 3 biggest assets, why would they let the next biggest one leave too?

Thinking the same unfortunately. Even if he's keen on a move they'll probably make him stay until next summer. Contract until 2029 so they don't have to sell.
I hope we sign 3rd midfielder soon but do get those saying that a LB/full-back signing could be even more important. Our fullbacks options are bit underwhelming and none gives another dimension to our play the way Shaw used to before another couple of injuries he's had over last few years.
Given a choice of going for a Robinson this summer or wait it out for this guy next summer which are you choosing?
Robinson will be 29 in few weeks and we've already got Shaw who is 31. Hall only almost 22 and better. So would rather wait out for Lewis Hall and hope Shaw/Dorgu/Mazraoui do well enough this season.
Don't want another signing that's around 30 after Tielemans. That's unless it's a striker as we've got Šeško as younger option.

We may have more options in mind that we've not been linked to, but our two most linked options on the left side were Summerville (gone to Saudi), and Hall, who will not be sold now Newcastle have sold so many players and we've left it late in the window. So that makes it even more likely we just stick with what we have in Rashford/Thompson coming in to fill the gap we had.

Inclined to agree. I think our only remaining business will be another midfielder, probably a budget signing and then maybe a backup for Sesko if we can identify someone cheap and find a taker for Zirkzee.
I think we've still got another signing in us, but our plans to improve the squad further than that, have been impacted with not being able to offload Bayindir, Rashford, Ugarte, Zirkzee and others.

We all know that's not good enough. It also can't be the ambition of a club with the goal of winning the league within two seasons. Just Santos and a 29 year old Tielemans with injury issues isn't going to get us there.
If our summer plans were ever entirely contingent on us selling any these players for significant money, then we have the wrong people in charge.
And keep in mind that these same people also signed two of of the players mentioned.
I expected the summer to be 3 midfielders, either a left back or left wing after Rashford leaves, striker to replace Zirkzee, keeper to replace Bayindir.
The only thing that has changed is the left side, as Rashford is unexpectedly staying.
I assume we'll still force Zirkzee out either on loan or sale towards the end and find a cheap striker, though we have no idea who that will be. And a 3rd midfielder will still be signed.
Vlahović was supposed to be next big thing when it comes to strikers and now his contract with Juventus expired. Clubs not interested for a reason surely but odd player like him would be out of contract at 26 years old.
According to one of the journalists, we would need to sell to afford Scott. So it may be true.
Our whole summer business to date screams limited budget anyway. We talk about competing but if we’re being honest, the signings so far are solid/have potential in the future, but not what is needed to bridge the gap with the best teams. If I got told before the summer that one team would buy Santos and Tielemans, I’d have guessed Spurs or Newcastle level teams, or a smaller team showing ambition to push up the table a bit.

Well with some targets alls I’ve seen is monitoring. I mean it took us a few good weeks to sign santos and tielemans… obviously none of us knew about them as it was kept under wraps
