I reckon we'll renew.Shaw has one year left on his contract. We’re replacing him.

80 net isn’t much for them. They are very very healthy financially right now. I think if they move for Vini then yes they’ll be looking to increase outgoings.Wouldn't suprise me if Lewis-Skelly became available. Adding Bruno G will take their spending to over £110mil and only £30mil coming in from sales.
Skelly being home grown is pure PSR profit, which helps the transfer fund towards another striker.
If they add a striker like alverez they will need sales. All conjecture and remains to be seen. Can only hope, if we can't Hall maybe we can get MLS80 net isn’t much for them. Yep. I think the owners would be happy if we could just qualify for cl every season without breaking the bank, they wouldn't be bothered if we never won the league again. We should be a giant, still mentioned on par with real, barca, Bayern, psg. Them days are long gone though and may never be coming back. The difference is they crave success above all else, we don't apparentlyWell that just shows ownership wasn't ever fit for purpose but then we knew that anyway. So stupid not moving for this guy before window had even started, makes us look like right amateurs in transfer market
That's if we even still sign oneNowadays if a target looks obvious I tend to think it's probably not the real one. The obvious targets all cost big money and all our signings have been surprises so far. Vivell's influence presumably.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about Chelsea’s judgement, he’s proven them wrong. Injuries may be a concern but 80m is a no go anyway. He isnt worth anywhere near the price Newcastle are asking for, it would be incredibly foolish to spend £80m on an unproven LB who waant good enough for Chelsea and has missed 34 games through injury over the last 2 seasons.

We could get him for around £70m, however get the impression you don't think he's worth that eitherHe isnt worth anywhere near the price Newcastle are asking for, it would be incredibly foolish to spend £80m on an unproven LB who waant good enough for Chelsea and has missed 34 games through injury over the last 2 seasons.

Yeah that’s what I said yesterday. If you really want him, then why not try earlier? “We didn’t know how much we would have left after other signings + outgoings” I mean, there are very well paid professionals that should be easily able to figure this out and anticipate roadblocks etc. Our netspend so far is a joke anyway. What genius thought it was a good idea to wait for Newcastle to sell Gordon, Tonali and Bruno G before making a move for Hall. Really smart.
Who would you consider more robust? This is a massive issue that people are overlooking. We already have Shaw (bar last season), Martinez, de Ligt etc.. and are running quite a small squad. It might be best looking at someone more robust for a cheaper fee, as much as I like Hall.
Yeah that is absolutely dumb beyond belief, well playedWhat genius thought it was a good idea to wait for Newcastle to sell Gordon, Tonali and Bruno G before making a move for Hall. Really smart.
As if Newcastle didn't know they were going to lose that bunch. Its easier to replace midfielders or wingers than to replace a LB in the league at the moment as there are no good alternatives Newcastle can sign. Its a complicated move for all partiesWhat genius thought it was a good idea to wait for Newcastle to sell Gordon, Tonali and Bruno G before making a move for Hall. Really smart.
Do you think anyone Chelsea sells isn’t good enough for them?He isnt worth anywhere near the price Newcastle are asking for, it would be incredibly foolish to spend £80m on an unproven LB who waant good enough for Chelsea and has missed 34 games through injury over the last 2 seasons.

How can you say he has missed 34 matches through injury ? He missed 15 games in the league - I doubt he missed more cupgames than league games. I even think he was benched in a few of those 15 games
Yeah I wouldn’t use Chelsea deeming him not good enough as any sort of stick to beat him with. They are a shit show.He isnt worth anywhere near the price Newcastle are asking for, it would be incredibly foolish to spend £80m on an unproven LB who waant good enough for Chelsea and has missed 34 games through injury over the last 2 seasons.
Just say you don't watch him and move on.He isnt worth anywhere near the price Newcastle are asking for, it would be incredibly foolish to spend £80m on an unproven LB who waant good enough for Chelsea and has missed 34 games through injury over the last 2 seasons.
Absolutely baffling. What's worse is our fans seem to just be lapping it up as if we are these masterminds just doing everything in the shadows and have this super secret finish planned to the window. What genius thought it was a good idea to wait for Newcastle to sell Gordon, Tonali and Bruno G before making a move for Hall. He's better in mf and wants to play in mf. He wouldn't come here to play lbWouldn't suprise me if Lewis-Skelly became available. Adding Bruno G will take their spending to over £110mil and only £30mil coming in from sales.

I despise him! Just as bad as that city fan on the overlapI came across a guy on twitter called ‘Geordie Josh’ and I’ve never wanted to sign a player just to spite one person so much. Arrogant little prick he was. Saying it’s ‘2026, not 1996, he’s not going to go to Manchester United’
I don’t understand why he has this weird thing with United? I genuinely think he hates us more than Sunderland.I despise him! Just as bad as that city fan on the overlap
I Iive up there now and toon fans despise us. It comes from the 1996 title and has then been passed down to kids from their parents. They still talk like we're massive rivals.I don’t understand why he has this weird thing with United? I genuinely think he hates us more than Sunderland.
Trasfermarkt shows he's missed 34 games in two seasons but 25 was for ankle surgery in 24/25 and a hamstring that put him out for a month last season.
But he's also played 80 games in the last two seasons and around 5916 minutes so 65 full games over two seasons.
He's definitely playing a lot despite the injury and surgery.
Might include international games maybe? In that case Transfermarkt is wrong - Newcastle played a total of 48 matches in 24/25 and 58 matches in 25/26 - a total of 106 matches. Hall played 34 and 46 games - so 80 in total. And I know he was benched for at least 2 of those games. So he missed no more than 24 matches through injury (and that is assuming he wasn't benched for any games in 24/25 - which I couldnt be bothered to check)
Shaw, if he had no injury problems, I think we'd just keep as LB for the season and put money elsewhere but last season was the first in forever he's not had a significant injury and it's highly likely it's because we played quite pragmatic football combined with about half the amount of games as everyone else. I see Shaw a bit differently to you, I think he's dropped a level now his rapid acceleration has gone and it's shown up his positioning has issues. Last season we really played safe, sensible and a style that suited our older, less mobile players - I think there's going to be a lot more onus on FBs and CMs this season to cover much more ground and if we want to really free up Cunha/LW we have to have someone who can go up and down for 90mins, which Shaw cannot.Maybe, but Shaw is still a very good lb and unlike Robinson he's actually not reliant on his speed, which he lost quite a while ago due to his injuries. His defensive and positional ability is actually good, so he's a bit less prone to physical decline imo. Robinson offers far more going forward so I could see us rotating based on the strength of opposition too, but I wouldn't expect Shaw to suddenly just be a backup after being our first choice lb for a decade. Particularly at the start of the season given Shaw's already looking fit and any lb we sign at this stage would be unlikely to start the first few games. I do agree with you that the player we sign needs to be good enough to be 1st choice though. It's a position where choosing a player based on form instead of a clear no 1 and no 2 would be preferable for this season. Shaw might renew also, I'm not sure what the club is thinking in regards to this right now, it might also depend on his actual availability this season. Regardless of whether or not Shaw will be here next season though, we should be preparing to have a reliable new first choice lb for the next 5 years ideally.
And Newcastle wouldn't sell him for that so we move onHe isnt worth that, we shouldnt pay anymore than 50m for him
Which people? Everyone agrees a left back is required.Have people really forgotten Shaw's injury record? As soon as he goes down we're completely fecked at LB. It would be genuine negligence to into a season with Shaw as first choice and only natural LB in the squad.
This is how you know this won't happen. You honestly think we haven't enquired about how much a potential deal cost ?What genius thought it was a good idea to wait for Newcastle to sell Gordon, Tonali and Bruno G before making a move for Hall. Really smart.
It seems we have some fans who are fine just signing no one, they say we have cover at fb, say mount can cover in mf, we have enough forwards. It's crazy, you should wmat to upgrade on excellent teams and squads, we have fans who don't want to fill clear gapsHave people really forgotten Shaw's injury record? As soon as he goes down we're completely fecked at LB. It would be genuine negligence to into a season with Shaw as first choice and only natural LB in the squad.
