I'd rather improve our starting XI and Hall is more likely to do that right now than Andres or Seys. Of course, we have no idea how much Andres and Seys would cost. But for LB, Hall is much less risky than Salinas or Seys.

It is, but better value than spending 30 million on a 28 year old Robinson or Raum. And much less risky than the other two mentioned. Adjusted for foitball inflation, 65 million for Hall is about the same as we spent on Shaw ten+ years ago.
And yeah, Ineos might not be willing to spend that much on him. But they should be.
But if these other left backs who are apparently top quality like Seys are £30-35m then I feel that is much more on brand for current Ineos
Hall would be a revolutionary signing though. He’s class at defending, running, attacking threat and a tidy, smart player. Never has a bad game. As you say, it’s worth the extra to guarantee it.
Absolutely. Shaw's contract is also up next summer and none of the players mentioned can really be seen as a long-term replacement. Hall also won't necessarily be cheaper in a year's time and if he continues his trajectory there's going to be a lot of competition for his signature.
If left-back is a priority position to fill right now, as we're being told through the press, then go for the best option. The player is likely more than willing to come and the funds are surely there after only spending £35m net so far. There's no excuse, if we cheap out in this position as well.
They’ve been willing to spend larger sums on PL proven players though and then supplement that with cheaper deals for young talent. Seys looks a promising prospect, but he’s coming from the Belgium league whereas Hall is premier league proven. With Shaw’s situation taking the more expensive but lower risk option by being a bit more aggressive to land Hall is a no brainer for me.
Yep, agreed. And we’ve spent relatively little on our CM rebuild so far, so I don’t care if we spend a little over on Hall. Sometimes you have to pay that premium to land your top target.
There are times when you spend on a decent upgrade and there are times when you spend on best of breed.

I think if we go for Hall, we're done for the summer, based on his price. I'm torn on whether that's the best move.
Be it Hall or not, we seriously need a LB signing this summer. we can't rely on Shaw (who will get injured somewhere) and Dorgu is not exactly a LB now
I do wonder if the plan is to play Dorgu at LB, given we unexpectedly have Rashford back in the squad. Rashford and Cunha give us some options on LW.
While we absolutely need a LB, Hall just isn't happening this year. Newcastle aren't going to sell at this point in the window after the other departures.
The plan is Shaw. Then we have a no. of back up options, inc. Dorgu.
I think we’re definitely going to be signing a left back mate. Carrick has made it clear we’re after more players, and that’s clear to us it’s a left back and likely another midfielder. Seemingly we’re after a player who can play both like tight gits.
Apart from MLS who’s committed to Arsenal, not sure who else fits that profile?

I'm on board with Ineos disciplined approach to transfer spending this summer so far. Tielemans for £35m and Santos for £50m is much better business than Tonali for £93-100m and Fernandes for £85m. And if the cost of this approach is that you can't get Anderson - the best of the bunch and most suitable for our needs - so be it. You get to go big for the Andersons when you're winning leagues, getting deep into the CL, and profitable.

I think Hall is a no-brainer for us, exactly what we need, likely to be the best LB in the league if he continues his trajectory, and a good investment at his age. I'll be chuffed if we buy him. But if Ineos would like to sign him but don't because he can't be signed for a sensible fee, then I support not signing him and going for a less proven talent instead.

I almost hate seeing those four positions in priorty order. Any serious club of our size goes and gets all of them sorted. We shouldn't need to pick between them!
The Ineos blueprint in a shame, they will never get the squad where it needs to be. The reason we need so many midfielders now is because they failed to secure one last year. Next year we will probably need another two CB, LW, ST... and that will be hampered by the signings we don't make this summer.
The thing about playing catchup, is at something you have to outpace the competition to make progress. Looking at this summer, we have regressed against our main rivals.
We need another left back and we should be prioritising that above all else. A proper signing that is a long term successor to Shaw. Outside of that if we didn’t sign anyone else, I’d be okay. I’d like another CM and a versatile pacey forward who is primarily a striker but of all the things we need to add the left back is the only one that is absolutely essential. At this point I’d rather we only added players of absolute high quality, no squad filler at all.
In CM, despite the nerves that come around from a meaningless preseason loss, I am happy with Mainoo, Santos, Tielemans and Mount. I’d take a Baleba but willing to wait to get the right player.
Up front with Cunha, Rashford, Dorgu, Amad, Mbeumo, Sesko, Zirkzee and Lacey, I am again happy with that. If we moved out Zirkzee and brought in a mobile, pacey striker I’d be very happy, but not essential. If Chelsea were willing to let go of Jackson for 30-40m, I’d be all over that. But at 60m, no thanks.
Personally I’d rather invest heavily at LB to get the right player in, Hall, Truffert and Balde would all be very acceptable and exciting long term additions. Spending 50-55m there would be completely in line with current market conditions. It would have the best effect on our squad balance up and tactical options.
