We will be in a much better financial position next year (if we get CL). The club has showed they would spend 85 mill on Fernandes.
The only issue we have is if another side want him and do better than us this season.
City are our biggest rivals. But they might want to keep O’Reilly there unless longer term he is a midfielder (however they are stacked in midfield)
Arsenal: stacked at LB.
Chelsea: they seem to be playing wingbacks plus he already left them
Liverpool: again they might move for him but Kerkez looks better and he’s a favourite of Iroala, plus I don’t think they’ll finish above us.
If Newcastle do go and finish above us then maybe he’ll stay. But also ‘we’re Manchester United’.

We’re in a better position next season irrespective of CL as we’ll have the benefit of CL money from this season drop in.

True, but if we miss out they might then budget so we have more runway for the following season as well. However if we do make it, they can go much bigger still knowing we’d have a healthy budget the following season.
We got a steal with both of them since the likes of Chelsea or City would've paid far more for a 20 league goal player like Mbeumo

am I the only one that think this guy is overrated especially for 60/70 million kind of money. Same as I thought Anderson is way overrated for 120 and 300k per week. Good player but overrated due to being English?

That’s a load of nonsense. We wanted baleba last year of the back of his good season. We just didn’t want to pay ridiculous money. Liverpool did the same with VVD… waited a year and we’ll do the same again with Hall
We’re clearly holding out until next summer to sign this kid. I just hope we’re aggressive enough to go out and do what it takes to get it done and don’t get left with egg on our face when other club swoops in and signs him instead.
I agree, I think the issue is there is a general lack of any outstanding quality at LB, Lewis Hall is probably one of the best right now even if he does not look comparable to some LBs we have seen in the past, add to that the idea is that at his age you buy once for the next 8-10 years so you don't have to buy again or you get a hefty resale figure, and he is English, and Newcastle do not need to sell, so overpriced but for justifiable for those reasons, unlike some players we have seen move this summer for seemingly "inexplicable" prices (if you don't assume vey dodgy stuff is going on)

Arsenal was interested in Mbeumo. He would have only been a squad option there though, rather than first choice like he was here.
Baleba is a Utd fan I believe. Hall is a Newcastle fan, so there's a risk he may actually favour the other top teams over us considering Newcastle's one-sided rivalry with us. Perhaps not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Baleba's price came down because he had a really bad season, and maybe because they sold him to us injured.
I've not seen any evidence Van Dijk got cheaper because they waited till January. If anything, it was the complete opposite. I'm not sure our masterplan involves all our targets having a shocker of a season to tank their value.
Anyone who is paying a massive fee for Hall is clearly signing him to play him, he's not going to be worried about playing football wherever he goes.
We just had Spurs outbid us on fee and wages to steal our primary target, with them finishing 17th. If Madrid/Bayern/Barca/PSG/City/Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal offer him more money there's every chance we miss out.
Try telling that to city’s bench. They have 50-60m players on their all the time. Top teams play players based on form not price tag. City won’t mind having 2 60m LBs in their team and rotating. I mean look at their midfield. Unless they start with Enzo, Anderson and Boaddi which would be harsh on Cherki then they’re going to have an 80m+ player sat on the bench.
Think he's earning pennies right now, would want more for 'staying' with them, even if its for one more season. Could also sign one to add a release clause in it.

It means barely anything to professional footballers who they supported when growing up. This is their career, rather than a hobby watching TV on the weekends.
New players emerge all the time and a year is a long time in football. There's no guarantee that Hall will be the top left back target next summer.
That's easy to say when the player only has the choice of one team, if one team is more successful than the other options, if one team is offering higher wages, etc. Plenty of examples of that.
But if two clubs are trying to sign a player and both teams are at a similar level (indeed you've got to say of the 'top' teams we've been the worst in recent times) and offering similar wages, then it might be a difference-maker.

In theory, I’m not mad at a long term strategy to some players. This has been done by many other clubs for key players (usually better/bigger profiles than Hall tbh) like Mbappé, Van Dijk, Lewandowski etc. Even Sancho for us.

If absolutely all other things are equal, then yes it might be the deciding factor. Unlikely though.
Also any team bidding against us knows you can just raise the price and we'll back away, so if they really want him, that's what they'll do.
I doubt we actually sign him next year. We saw with Elliot Anderson, any top player will have other top clubs after him and to get the player you need to pay top dollar, which our ownership doesn't want to. More likely we get the LB from Brugge, Joaquin Seys.
