If he has any chance of backing out, I would do if Chelsea couldn't guarantee me that no other strikers would be signed this summer.

They are in different stages of their careers but Etkike is in a different league to delap.
I think his pride would lead him to go through with it and reason that he is going to prove himself when he gets there. I suspect he is viewed as a sale for a profit in another season or two as that is simply part of the Chelsea operating model but no player goes into a move believing that is going to be the case for them. Most likely scenario is he is leading the line for Everton at the start of the 27/28 season.

He had strong starting position with low price and interest from couple of clubs. I seriously doubt that that topic wasn't mentioned.
He knows why he is signing for them. Big mistake imo but it is his career so good luck to him.

No ambitious top club would, or should, sign him as absolute first choice. That is a mistake we made with Hojlund that not many big clubs make. He would be a good option to compete for and rotate in which is why Newcastle wanted him to replace Wilson and support Isak.

At best he could be a foil for a team like Liverpool with Salah and Mane back in the day or us with Cunha and Mbuemo or Barca with Messi and Neymar, etc. because there is less necessity for him to be a star striker at the top level which is a big ask for one so inexperienced.

Chelsea wouldn’t guarantee that, and they would laugh at him if he did ask.

Reverse Mikel.

With the club world cup and the champions league, we're going to be playing about 80 games next season. Having 2 or even 3 CFs isn't a bad idea.
Yeah I would've thought this too. Injuries, ups and downs in form etc. With 80 games to play, three options for such a key position seems sensible.

All at a fairly similar career stage, interestingly. One or two decent goalscoring seasons behind them in top leagues. All age 22/23 so with room to develop. Is there a risk none of them is ready to have the really excellent season you would need from a CF to propel you further in the PL or deep into the CL next season?

Don't get me wrong, as a United fan right now I'd be delighted to have three acceptable #9 options. But interested to hear if you think Chelsea would have been better off going for one really excellent CF signing instead of two solid/project signings? Especially given you have a steady source of goals in other forward positions (Madueke, Palmer, Neto). Then again, are there really any top-drawer CFs available?

Pretty sure Newcastle wanted him to be there first choice striker, they went for Isak after Ekitike turned them down for PSG.

I recon Delap joined Chelsea due to reuniting with Maresca, so I’m not so sure adding Ekitke is a bad thing for Delap.

It’s actually what United should of done when they dropped Hojlund in at the deep end without any support.

Jackson OUT
Delap and Ekitke IN

Looks great to me.
Its stupid, none of them are experienced enough and both can crumble under pressure. But for him he must be deluded if he think he is good enough to play instead of Ekitke.

Wait he's Rory Delap's son? The Rory Delap of Pulis / Stoke City days with his shithouse long throws? I'm so fecking old.

Best of luck, would love to hear his thoughts on all the Chelsea rumors of spunking out massive money on another striker

I don’t think he has a face that can make it on Ornhub.

Ah so that's where we went wrong. Obviously nobody told him we wanted to get back to the very top.

City get along just fine with Haaland and Marmoush. I don’t see why Delap and Jackson or Delap and Ekitike can’t be a healthy competition as well. Having all 3 would be an issue but I can’t see that happening.

In a season (including the CWC) where we’ll be playing an insane number of matches we’ll need serious depth. Don’t know why everyone’s making a big deal out of this. Are you expecting one undisputed starting #9 and then a couple of 18 years olds as backups?
