Benfica and Braga have looked the best teams in the league by far.

Sporting are pure and utter garbage and Porto will lose more games this season then they did last.

I suspect Sporting finish 4th while Porto and Braga fight it out for the podium spots.

Sporting are 5 points behind Porto (if this result stands), 7 behind Braga and 12 behind Benfica. Talk about a mountain of pure shit to climb.

Not even VAR could save them now. But it needed 3 goals for the VAR not having any impact on the final result.

I have a question about Vitória Guimarães for our Portuguese friends.

I know they've got a notorious fanbase but are they known as racist/right wing?

They have fantastic support, probably have a fan base able to match the big 3 in home games especially when they are playing well.

They have had some racist moments particularly with Marega when he was at Porto but I also remember even Benfica having incidents with Hulk making monkey noises when he was in Porto.

Overall I would not say Portuguese fans are racists but as with anything their are bad apples. Overall though I would not say they are racist but they are fecking crazy.

Nice one, thanks. I've been looking for a Portuguese club to latch on to for a while now. I ended up in the same hotel as the team a while back and they were a good bunch of lads. I was aware that that Andre Ventura numpty has a strong base in that region and don't want to get caught up with any of that. I had considered Porto as I really liked the city but, after going to a couple of games, there was something about their fans that I didn't like. No offence to Sporting, but everywhere I go 99% support Either Benfica or Sporting so I'm looking for something outside that. (I'd take Sporting over Benfica though tbf).

They have a very fierce fanbase: in Guimarães they really support Vitória as the first club (in other cities usually the city club is the second club after supporting one of the big 3).
If you are referring to ultras/casuals, they will a fair share of far right or far left radicals instilled in their ranks. If you talk to the regular fan, you will not have this issue.

They might be more patriotic at that city, because Guimarães was the first Capital of Portugal, and Dom Afonso Henriques (Portugal's first king) was born in Guimarães.
André Ventura is just another far right politician, a political movement who's on the rise all over Europe and North America, and it is no different in Portugal. Chega only got 5,45% of votes in Guimarães, which is actually less than most cities. Surprisingly Ventura get more votes on the South of Portugal.

Guimarães is playing good footy this season, not a bad choice. If you stay there you can also attend Braga's matches. And you'll be in Minho, who IMO has the best traditional food to offer in whole Continental Portugal (high quality meat, high quality fish if you go to Viana do Castelo and amazing deserts and pastry), and you can visit some old and beautiful places, and if you like to hike and watch nature, you can go to Gerês and see the wild horses, goats and deers while hiking. (just don't get too close to the horses if they have foals).

Vitoria is an interesting choice to support as in my view they have the closest ability fan base wise to match the big 3. For example if they were in Braga’s position right now they would be bigger then what Braga is because their fan base is that much better.

Now onto Braga. Another interesting choice if your trying to be “different” and against the norm. Braga are the club that have been knocking on the door of the big 3 for some time now and are the most consistent club in forever to go against the big 3 to the point that facing Braga is a game they all dread.

If your looking for some hipster historical choice you could also go with Boavista. Historically the 4th biggest club in Portugal and one of only two clubs to have won the league title outside of the big 3. Great fan base and an awesome stadium.

What a kind reply, thank you. I think that's me set as a new White Angel then! From my observations, Portuguese patriotism is often the good kind, where it's about sharing the culture and beauty of the country rather than isolating people from it. I've been to Viana do Castelo and Braga and they're both amazing, although I'm fecked if I'm getting in the ocean again!

There are still some top players in this league and Wolves are snapping them up. They will have the Portugal National team before they are done.

I truly believe eventually Portugal will have 5 challengers, Big 3 plus Braga and Vitória SC.

Would be great for Portugal and the Minho derby is the only time other then the big 3 when stadiums are full in Portugal.

Benfica sign Draxler and on paper have a pornographic front 4 with David Neres , Rafa, and Ramos.

- Didn’t blow the whistle after 8 minutes of added time

- gives a penalty where the Vizela player has his back turned and the ball hit his back and then funny bone.

- DOES NOT EVEN GO TO VAR

This league is in fact and no joke, literal and pure dog shite. Fecking utterly disgusting pieces of shit.

High flying Braga with another huge win this time in the derby to keep them at pace with corrupt Benfica.

With Sporting not in the title race this season I hope Braga can shock the league as it would be good for Portugal having another team winning the league.

These guys are flying at the moment but the key thing will be how they escape away to Porto and at home to Benfica during the holidays.

Still on yesterdays game.

Someone tell me if this would be a penalty in any other league in the world.

Not going to point things the VAR decide on Sporting or Porto's favour because two wrongs don't make it right. Overall the VAR is an improvement for refereeing, but a lot of subjectivity in interpretation is still being made by the refs behind the VAR screen and they know that if they do a mistake in favour of the big three it will have less repercussions than deciding against them.

It's a cultural issue. I think if VAR refs were anonymous, they would be more ballsy on taking hard decisions.

the solutions is we need foreign refs in our league. Portuguese refs are pure garbage and their is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Lots Of it is very very public knowledge that chooses to be blatantly ignored and it is the reason this league can not grow. Their are no reprucussion. There is no way to justify that penalty but it’s not just that call it’s many like it.

We can go all the way to Apito dourado and talk about how Boavista got sanctioned to the lower leagues and Porto got a measly fine. The league is ruled by two entities in the country and it is embarrassing that a top7 league has these kind of blatant and documented issues. They are done because they know they will never be punished for it.

Some positives and negatives from the weekend so far.

- Benfica continue to steam roll the league at the moment and are undefeated.

+ Antonio Silva (18) CB from Benfica looks like the next Ruben Dias. I will wait before I make conclusions but I have been very impressed by the young lad

+ Sporting with three wins in a row and most importantly going back to their roots with 3 straight clean sheets. Trincao starting to blossom with 2 more goals to his name and Pote grabbing a customary goal and assist. Young midfielder signing Sotiris Alexanderpoulous looks a talented midfielder but still too early to tell.

- Luis Neto and Gonçalo Inácio getting injured this game and St Just getting injured mid week means we are very short at the back. Not looking good for the midweek game vs Spurs.

** Porto play next and Braga win Tommorow. Porto should win rather easily and hopefully Braga is able to keep up pace with Benfica by winning Tommorow

Ya he does, I actually think he seems more composed then Ruben Dias was at the same age. Dias used to make many mistakes and have lapses of concentration.

Braga look very good this year. En route to another convincing win and they score goals for fun.

I actually think they have been the best side in Portugal this year so far. Giving me shades of their historic 09-10 season.

@Charlie Foley

This is why I said the league was done weeks ago and this is why I am negative every match day. Years of seeing this is how I am able to make the claims that I do.

Porto drop points and we lose.

Benfica and Braga are the primary candidates for the title and Benfica are miles the favorite at this point.

6 points from Porto, possibly 9 from Braga And 11 from Benfica.

Sporting In huge danger of Missing the CL and having their full squad gutted.
