Lingard as one of two DMs?

It sounds weird to think this but why not? He did pretty well after Greenwood came on and moved back with Fred. He certainly did better than Andreas. His days as an AM should be almost over as he has not scored in 27 matches and, I think, has one assist in the same time period. He is athletic, can run all day, and has a decent enough touch.

This is the sort of move that could make him useful again. The big question, though, can he minimize giving the ball away in dangerous positions?

feck no. Although anything is better than Andreas there.
That said, we had plenty of better options than Andreas at DM today and an entire international break to drill it into the squad.

Any drunk fan in the stands would do better than Pereira today. Lingard is useless too, just stop with that.

This is what I was saying too, get bulked up and make him a CM/CDM that chases down the player with the ball.

I think he can be useful at that if he learns how to recycle possession in time.

If anyone is going to do it I can see it happening it under a Italian manager like allegri.

@gerdm07 - Lingard has gone and flipped the fans the wrong way for far too long for this to be a thread - I personally think he could be good at what you are saying.

Nope, let him go try that at his next club. We won't move on as a club with a squad full of Lingards much less playing in a different position when he's failing at what should be his best .

I didn’t think anything could top the Shaw as DM thread, and yet here we are.

Why don’t we try Matic up top? Aerial threat, mobile and can play with his back against the goal.

I love it how everyone wants to get rid of half the squad because they are not United quality. However, we live in the real world and can't just purge 10 players and expect to get replacements. This, of course, is just a short term solution. Maybe, just maybe, he could be a 2nd or 3rd backup as a DM in the future.

This all started with Rooney, and some fans have the Rooney syndrome. Let’s bring back Rooney to play at CDM instead. After all, we tried him in every other position except goalie.

How about signing a dog, then? He would offer the same thing and would be more intimidating and cute. Seriously, how are you guys full members?

I applaud this bold and revolutionary plan to turn Jesse Lingard into a pair of Dr Martens.

Damn, why did we sell Lukaku? He could have been the answer to our attacking midfield. Just learn how to control the ball and he would have been Messi on steroids.

@gerdm07 I think you're on to something there...

And nowhere have i said we should gut our squad just for the sake of it. Yes ideally i would like us to have better players, but I realise that needs a bucket load of money that we don't have, but still, no, Lingard is not a solution at CM/CDM, be it temporary or otherwise.

Him running around today as a makeshift CM should be an emergency that ends today, otherwise you and I will be accusing Ole of gross negligence when the eventuality happens.

You mean make the midfield lighter by one player?
I mean have a decent footballer playing instead of Andreas. Jorginho is taller and weighs the same as Lingard and he does pretty well as a DM. Kante, one of the best DMs for years, is a just a few pounds heavier than Lingard.

This thread is going to be up there as the one about converting Shaw to a CDM.
Wait...

De Gea
Lindelof Maguire Rojo
AWB Lingard Shaw Williams
James Martial Rashford

Inspired. Irrational, you're a genius.

Not a bad idea, I'm sure that Crewe Alexandra, Exeter or Port Vale could use a reliable 2nd/3rd choice DM and he could promote his rags there.

All the best Jesse.

Would rather try TFM, Axel, or ....

Garner

Just play Garner. There's no way Jesse does a better job than Garner. That's literally what Garner is, except he's also a good passer.

Sure why not. He has a body strength of a teenager. Other midfielders will bully him easily. He was bullied out of the ball many times while he was playing as AM.

Let’s don’t go there. It looks like he did well but that’s because Pereira was terrible.

He was shit and didnt contest one ball when it was in the air. Wtf is with this place and wanting to shoehorn random players into midfield, Shaw first, then Lingard, who's next, Mata?

I dont see it. Lingard doesnt have the mental toughness to handle this position.

He doesnt have the vision to break up attacks or to anchor / start a counter attack either

What is it with wanting to play under par players in a different position when they aren't even good enough in their primary one? Lingard needs to be sold.

He could do it. He's not creative enough further forward and isn't much of a passer but unlike Pereira he's capable of taking the ball under pressure without shitting himself. He has tge energy to press and cut out danger. As an emergency solution he'd survive.

Its basically him or Garner as far as I can see. There's nobody else right now.

I don't think he'd cause us any issues at DM....provided he's playing for Everton. Maybe the other DM could be Phil Jones.

Absolutely 100% re Garner. Why not just give him a go, he could not have been any worse than Andreas yesterday so what have we got to lose!

Maybe the fact we have NO other options bar a spotty teenager?

Could our janitor sit at the reception desk? He has a nice voice and is polite.

Sir Alex could get away with playing players out of position but it is always preferable to have specialists in every position.

Yes, he should be DM but just not at Manchester United. Maybe some league one or two team?

What is up with this place? Lindelof, Jones, Shaw and now Lingard on dmc. Is dmc position which is easy to play so you can put there any player?
