It would be cool to see him at United for a season. But nope, we need to move away from this sort of thing

I'll ask

Would anyone take him for a year?

I would, for curiosity more than expecting him to be a hit

I'd rather neither. It would be a clown show. Too much attention on players in the twilight of their career that don't want to put in much effort on the pitch.
No arguing against that...although the prospect is still quite tempting for the masochist inside of me.

Oh he'd be a disaster of a signing.... and yet I'd still love it to happen.

We would be the only club to of had both Ronaldo and Messi play for us.

He wants and obviously can play in elite level. He will play in Copa América 2024.

Hope he goes back to Barcelona. There’s where he belongs.

As proven by Ronaldo, who actually has far more competition for his role.... where he plays isn't going to stop him being a part of the Copa squad and/or even going to 2026 if he wanted(likely not as 90 min every game though here).

It would be nice if we could afford his salary. But honestly I don't we can so we better don't even try.

It would be a huge risk for any team in european leagues. He treated his first season with PSG as preseason for the world cup and might as well do the same in his next team in order to arrive fresh for Copa America, so while there's a lot of appeal because of his name he's also on obscene money.

It would be interesting to see how he does if he goes back to Barcelona under Xavi.

As much as I admire Messi, I think United need to move away from giving the OAPS a free ride at the end of their careers, we've done it all too often over the last ten years and it never works out (bar maybe Ibrahimovic). Look at the Ronaldo fiasco, we can't go through that again just to see Messi in a United shirt.

I always take the view that it they didn't want to come here during their prime years, then why the hell should we accommodate them when they are past it. Really boils my p*ss.

I am going to use the last of my daily comments quota to reiterate your point. You know its going to happen with Kane too, he'll get a 5 year deal on 300 large per week, be great for 2 seasons then won't be able to drag his creaking, fat hole up the pitch for the remaining 3.

Any United fan that would refuse the chance for us to sign Messi, be it for a year or 3, needs some love.

Ain't happening but this is the best of the best and just seeing that left foot in a united shirt at OT would be a dream.

Kane doesn't strike me as a player who'll become useless at 32 years old

Even 2 years ago when he left Barca it would have been worthwhile, but I really don't think signing yet another 35 year old to massive wages is the right direction to go in. This summer is one of the most important in recent memory, Newcastle are likely going to make the champions league and step up the quality of player they can bring in a notch, Chelsea have got hundreds of millions at their disposal, and if they get the right manager could be dangerous, Liverpool will probably be a much bigger threat, and City, and arsenal.

We really can't afford to bring in someone so we can see that player in a red shirt while the clubs around us are making serious progress. We've done it far too many times recently, we don't just need another stopgap forward for a year or two we need to sign someone who can conceivably lead out attack for 3-4 years minimum

We're not that unlikely of a destination for him if a barca return isn't on the table and he really wants to stay in Europe, Italians and Germans won't have the cash, so that only leaves the prem teams that have cl.

Something tells me there'll be no tearful press conference when he leaves PSG.

Alfredo Martínez is very reliable. Now barca needs to wait for LaLiga's approval to send him that offer.

The PSG move was crap

I'd like to see him back at Barcelona, or giving the PL a year or two. Still plenty of quality in his legs and I want to witness the last of it on the big stage

He is joining Cristiano for some more of that sweet Oil money, isn't he?
I read he's been offered a 2 year £1.2b contract - and most of that will probably be tax free through companies etc. I don't care how much money you have, £1.2b would be too good to turn down. What would playing for Inter Miami do his career? Might as well go earn yourself 1.2B than play as both leagues are a joke.

If he had moved to Saudi at 30, I'd be shouting at my screen and I think his reputation would have been damaged a bit. But at 35, most footballers (attackers / midfielders) have retired by then as their bodies can't cope with the daily stress and their skill doesn't allow them to play at the top level anymore (or any pro who's job is that of an athlete NFL / NBA / Athletics etc). He's just won the world cup at 35 but probably come at a cost physically. Moving to Barca I feel would just ruin his reputation again as we'd see a shadow on what he was there.

To sum it up, he's won everything that there is to be won, a god among footballers for decades to come and him lifting the WC at 35 was the icing on a fecking big cake. If we were in ancient Greece, he'd have statues made of him all across the Greek islands, temples built after him with Spartan warriors protecting the road he walked on and the vestal virgins protecting vials of his sperm for future cloning.

Messi can go to Saudi and earn whatever he wants after everything he has given the world of football for the last 18-19 years.

The romantic in me would love for him to come here lift a trophy and rub it in Ronaldo and his fan boys here :p
What team do you support? I suspect the majority of Ronaldo 'fanboys' here are Manchester United fans. And when United lifts a trophy, they'll be quite happy.

Surely with Benzema leaving Tebas will want to do everything he can to help Barcelona get Messi back to draw some attention to the league again

As much as I hate Ballbag, he has stated that Barca haven't made an offer to Messi other than putting the feelers out to say they want him back, and that's due to them not having the cash to do so as yet.

So far Messi doesn't have an option other than money bags Saudi, which I can't see him doing so.

I would take him on a free with supplemented wages for a season for sure. Might be the worst move ever, but to say both Ronaldo and Messi wore the red of Manchester would be special.
