Can anyone afford to sign him at this stage of the window? PSG have used a lot of money on wages for their free signings and City would struggle as well if they continue to pursue Kane. Who else is there? There could be an insane situation where Messi is still a free agent by the time the new season starts.

It kinda makes me laugh to hear that Messi and Barcelona agreed to renew his contract because he wants to finish his carreer at Barcelona but couldn't finalize the deal because of wage restrictions. Messi is a billionaire, if he wanted to he could reduce his wage to 1M/year and his family would still be fine for generations. He just doesn't want to. It's just greed over his club. Several NBA players drastically reduced their wage in order to win a ring in a big team for exemple.

Guess him going to PSG would be the best realistic situation for United so he doesn’t join City. But urgh what an uninspiring move

And Neymar, who left to spread his wings and not play under Messi's shadow anymore.
You can't make this shite up!
Neymar has pretty much begged Messi to join him at PSG for a couple of seasons now

Yea there was talk of a reunion at Barca as well years ago before it became known that Messi wanted out.

Di Maria and Pochettino have also been recruiting him for almost a year now

Shows how much I follow that stuff.
Well guess he thinks he can up show Messi now that Messi is close to retirement and not putting up the crazy peak Messi figures as much. He's wrong.
Think you’re making things up. This is what Neymar said in December:

"What I want most of all is to play with Messi again, to be able to enjoy him once again on the pitch," Neymar told ESPN after PSG's 3-1 win at Manchester United on Wednesday night.

"He can play in my place, I have no problem with that. But I want to play with him next year, for sure. We have to do it next season."

Why can’t we have him? I mean it would be pretty nice. I’d break the bank for him. Take him on a free and pay him a million a week.

I mean come on, it’s Messi!

Uhm, I'm fairly sure I'm not making anything up, I'm not talking about last year, I'm talking about when he forced a move away from Barca in the first place. Anyhow, PSG despite all the weird ironies and stuff, seems the most likeliest option, aside from him actually staying after getting La Liga to bend over and do one.

For several hours, Leo #Messi is in discussions with Paris Saint Germain. Negotiations are underway. PSG are very attentive to the situation in order to find a solution

Loïc Tanzi, who's the most reliable for PSG news, is also reporting on this.
Messi /PSG : it is a real possibility. [Even] If the financial package is very difficult to achieve, PSG will give it a try.

What makes this annoying is how so many people seem to think there's another invisible obstacle to him staying.

As crazy as Maradona was, I believe if he was in this position, he'd stay for free.

Messi has proven his greed time and again and now the time is here for him to repay the club he's robbed blind (even if in a figurative sense), he's bailing for an even bigger payout.

well, Grealish will have to give up the number. No hard feeling. It is not like he gives up the number to Lingaard anyway.

Most expensive player in PL history and the highest paid in the league, that would be an interesting conversation to be had

Come to think of it, Messi must have terrible bargaining power right now. What's he gonna do if clubs refuse to meet his salary expectations? Retire?

Lower his demands a bit. PSG will push as far as they can. They are already on it

I’d never usually expect anybody to take a ‘pay cut’ but in this situation I’d have thought he would have lowered his wage demands, he’s a club legend who doesn’t need to tarnish his reputation to join fecking PSG in the French league.

I’m not saying he should play for peanuts but damn he’s walking away with a reported $130m a year the greedy feck.

I think PSG it's the only place he could go. Because it's the closest to Barcelona, where his family has their lives built.

Messi isn't the problem. WTF. Look at the salaries of players like Griezzman or Umtiti. Players like that ARE the real problem. Bartomeu was a Madrid fan. I guarantee that.

Not sure why this is such an outrageous concept for some, plenty of wealthy people forego their wages, even donald fecking trump when he was in office. You'd think he is more than just a player or employee to the club.

If Messi now moves to PSG this is going to have so many remifications for different players and teams;

1. In the last few weeks there been more indications Ronaldo will go to PSG (Another league to add to his tally). If Messi goes there now, surely they cant afford both their wages + Neymar + Mbappe?!

2. With Messi at PSG, can they still now afford Pogba? Apparently they were trying to sell players to buy him but that money surely now goes on Messi's wages. This means Pogba will either go free next summer or sign a new contract. No transfer this summer.

3. With Messi's wages off Barcelonas books can they now come in for Pogba?

So many questions. Exciting few weeks ahead.

Even with Messi off the books, I’m pretty sure Barcelona still can’t register Depay and Aguero.
