Need to find another ball playing CB for £50 million then. Will also take away from the budget for midfield

Jan Paul would be available for that fee.

Problem is, I dont thini any club is paying £50 mill for Martinez.

Isn’t that Senesi a free agent this summer? Maybe I’m misread on here. Might be a decent option until we can maybe go big on defence next year but this summers budget must be midfield, a LW, a backup CF and a fullback (LB). At least we’re recouping some money to go towards this.

The Defcon hero. It seems his contract is truly over this summer. For that reason I think many teams will line him up not just in Premier league. Likely Barca like freebies, so it will be difficult to get him. Id rather take a punt on cheap Krejci even though he's rather Maguire successor, monster in the air and true leader. Will be cheaper this year with Wolves going down. 30mil should do.

I don’t know the answer to that, but I do know Martinez (unfortunately) in not the answer.

This is where Wilcox should be earning his salary.

I dont think he has to answer questions with no reasonable answer. Finding a ball playing CB near Lisandro's level that isnt at a top club and wont choose a different club when theres competition for their signing is a needle in a haystack. What we'll get instead is someone half the level, who is just a bit better than De Ligt and Maguire on the ball but they'll be available a lot and probably quite young so maybe eventually they'll grow into the role. Meanwhile we'll be a worse team than when Lisandro was available.

The best solution would be keeping him and signing someone we hope can eventually take the role if he cant stay fit. Then we have the stand in for a lot of matches, but if there are big matches and Lisandro is still considered better and is fit he can play. He can replace the other CBs at the drop of a hat if money is available - every team has big CBs who are good in the air. This one you cant.

Aren’t Sporting supposed to have 2 amazing ball-playing CB’s?

Not sure they would in the premier league. Ugarte is our last ex Sporting player. Sometimes they work sometimes they dont

Edit - On the other hand Hill and Lacroix are already doing well in the premier league, an easy swap for Maguire

He’s Shaw 3-5 years ago. Still young enough and quality enough that you hope he will stay injury free. If that magically happens he is a world class player. Let him have two or three more seasons plagued with injuries, and Martinez will also lose a couple of yards, lose agility and shy away from physical duels… by that time, he will simply not be good enough anymore.

He’s one of the most likeable characters in the squad, a great player when fit, looks a proper leader, and although I really like him, I think he should be moved on, unfortunately!

But finding someone with his quality on the ball will be like City trying to find someone with Walker’s pace and power - it won’t happen whilst also being a footballer.

You can find a good ball playing defender with more pace and aerial presence, but we would need to compensate with better progressive fullbacks and central midfield. Remember how good Evra was at progressing the ball up the pitch? Or Valencia for that matter even. We seriously lack that.

What does this even mean?

Should we sign whoever is playing at the back for Spartak Moscow because Vidic was class?

Or we could sell him this summer and get a fee for him, and use his wages elsewhere.

We have been so poor at moving on players that just don’t work. Either because there is hope that injuries will go away, or a player has a month of good performances. We need to look at the lifetime of the player at United - he’s played less than 50% of games over a period of 3-4 years. That’s simply not good enough.
Alright but we'll only get 20 million, if that, and then we have to sign another defender to replace him. We're unlikely to get a top defender for 20 million.

Sure. But the whats the point in a player who misses most games?

Actually being able to get on this pitch is quite a plus point.

Sure and he might stay fit next season and earn another contract. Huge upside

Or we sell him and get 20 million or less. Meh upside

It's worth seeing what happens for me

Stoked that he’s about to be back. Incredible player when fit; he’s had unlucky injuries. I’m still hopeful he can stay fit for a prolonged period of time.

He's 28 and his injuries are piling on. It won't improve at the latter stages of his career. Actually its probably going to get worse. I'd say cash in now. Our obsession in ignoring the writing of the wall is ridiculous
We have had a 10 year experience with Luke Shaw but that won't change anything, Martinez will give us a good season and sign a new long term deal and vanish into 15-20 game seasons after that. Like him a lot but his injury record is terrible.

Yeah he could easily do what mascherano did for Barca.
Doesn’t have the pace. Mascherano’s recovery pace is what allowed him to play for Barca. He’s more like Pique if anything but lacks the strength and aerial ability.

Is he back for the next game? Love watching him play and he really does elevate us as a team. He’s such a stud muffin as well!

Looks like he's back training with the squad, so we could feasibly seem him soon (barring any new setbacks):

At first I didnt think it was a red. Its the smallest contact and pull you will ever see a foul given for hair pulling. However, the truth is he does pull and does know what hes doing when he does it even though you would barely feel it. So yeah red card and its dissappointing that Lisandro made that decision. He did so well in the first half with a decent performance and keeping us in the game clearing Tanaka's run off the line.

Great passer, but terrible defender one on one, highly erratic and injury prone. One to sell in the summer.

Absolute donkey and i hope to never see him in UTD shit again. Constantly injured and pulling off idiotic moved when he isn't injured.

2nd goal was on him, he had no business passing the ball to Casemiro, instead of hoofing it.

Look, forget the red, he was really bad up to the goal-line clearance, DCL had a very easy time against him, little of his usual aggression and tenacity.

Put too much pressure on Yoro to take on the physical challenge which he is also not great at.

Badly missed Maguire and how much longer MDL out for.

Garbage, from the moronic hair pull to slowing the game down to the suicidal pass out that led to Leeds' 2nd.

Played like he'd spent all afternoon in a Buenos Aires bar.

It was soft....but why give them a decision to make?!?!

Cameras all over the pitch. VAR in play. And whilst he didn't yank his hair hard, he clearly grabs it intentionally.

Just bloody stupid. More annoyed at him than I am the refs.

Get rid of this idiot. How dumb do you have to be to do that with VAR in action? I wouldn't mind so much if he could manage to stay fit for 5 minutes.
