The way he was moving around, I didn't get the impression he's injured at all.

I think so too. And given he’s on a rumoured 120K a week with a 1+1 left on his deal this is likely the time where he asks for a new contract so the club will have a decision to make.

Yep. This is the perfect time to sell before he inevitably gets another long term injury.
 
I'm biting someone's hand off if we get a bid in that 35m range. Brilliant footballer on the ball but I think his defensive ability is vastly overrated these days, and he's injured for half the season every year seemingly. Not worth having a first choice CB with those shortcomings, especially now that we've signed two quality passers in the midfield.

I get that some want to cash in for whatever they can get instead of extending but taking a step backwards makes zero sense to me. Why buy another average CB who you will probably have to pay massive money for just for the sake of it. Who are we, Chelsea?

We already have lesser players enough. Why buy another when Maguire, Yoro, Heaven and Shaw already play in his absence. You don't just get rid of arguably your best defender like that when the CB market this summer is the worst it has been in years.
 
1 or 2 of them in a team is fine, but when you group them all together into one squad, you get that awful mess!

Licha will be totally fine when he gets back to Manchester, it's just the environment of the Argentina national squad brings out the worst in them all.
 
When he's fit and on rythym he's worth £50m of quality. Problem is we won't get more than £25-30m for him and to replace him we'd need £50m at least.

Considering we would need a top CB to replace him, otherwise there's no point as we should rather give the playing time to Yoro and Heaven.

Don't get me wrong we definitely need to improve our CB senior department as Licha and de Ligt can't be trusted to stay fit but this is not the window to do it. We still have many positions to fill.

Brilliant in 22/23 but injury-prone ever since. Given that we've got Shaw (his contract expiring next year as well) that's too injury-prone players for LCB position, though Shaw is obviously primarily a LB. Add de Ligt as another one, that's 3 defenders that regularly get injured.

If there's an offer club will definitely consider it no doubt.

Yeah in the clip after the game pushing people and moving round quite freely too. I dunno the way the keeper looked down instantly without getting another opinion and signaled a sub, it almost felt pre planned if a CB is on a yellow. Stop the game and slow it down. People will say he's too important to them to take off but this happened against England got taken off early when on a yellow.
 
I don't think we get much or him at this point and so I would trigger the plus 1 and just keep him for the 2 years and let him leave on a free when it is done. I would prefer two years of Licha if the alternative is 30M and needing to find someone to replace him in a crazy transfer market. Letting a player go at the end of their contract is not always a bad idea and this is one where the timing could be ideal with Yoro, Heaven and maybe another young player ready to be the permanent starters two years from now.
 
Considering he got injured, it is probably a moot point, but I wouldnt mind selling him if we could make 60M+ on him

He got subbed in the first half with just 4 minutes or so left till half time, he was obviously genuinely injured...

The England sub was more tactical as Argentina were chasing in the 2nd half.
 
Just made the team of the tournament and some of you want to sell him off. I know his injury struggles are real, but if that were not the case, he’d be an 80 million player. We should see how much we can get out of him rather than take a pitiful transfer fee and watch him be fit for someone else (I’m sure that would happen).

I didn’t articulate my point very well mate. I want us to go out and replace him with the best out there. Unfortunately, we have shit owners that wont spend the money to bring the best to Old Trafford any more.

So whatever happens we’ll end up with an inferior player than Martinez. But, I’d rather an inferior player that’s available for selection rather than a top player that spends half the season on the physio table.

But it is the case, as you’ve stated. So he’s not an £80m player, not even close.

I understand your frustration, but we need to deal with reality not ‘what ifs’ and hope.

Indeed. Which is why I’m cautiously optimistic he will be ready for Hull away in 4 weeks. He will also get a couple of weeks off after this, so he likely wouldn’t have been scheduled to play in the opener anyway. It will probably end up some combination of Maguire, Heaven, and Yoro.

If they do decide to go that route, I at least hope they'll bring in a fecking giant. Need an extra threat at corners while Casemiro is gone!

The thing is that if we have a good offer (50+), there’s an argument to take it. Selling for any less doesn’t make sense.

Tell that to Luke Shaw, who has been intermittently injured during his 11 years at United, and started all 38 league fixtures last year.
 
To be fair we never ever had injury prone players during our title winning years. In fact, nobody ever has. And it's not as if some of the best players of all time have been injury prone during parts of their careers.

Presumably the people here moaning about injury proneness would never sign someone like van Persie, Gundogan, Robben or Bale, to name a few names off the top of my head.

Also, it's not as if he's had any chronic injuries. Lots of people do their ACL. Lots of people break a metatarsal (and he was doubly unlucky since the operation was fecked and he reinjured it). Sometimes shit just happens.

And we would still be idiots to go into next season with any confidence that he will be fit for the whole campaign.

That's despite Shaw not being as injury prone as Martinez and having been fit for multiple full seasons in the past.

I would 100% be signing a left back this summer.
 
Lots of comments about would sell "if" the right offer came in. But is there any indication there are any offers out there?
 
Bad time to sell him tbh. No great offers on the table, no real replacement on the anvil. It'll leave us very short of quality CB and we can't rely yet on yoro and heaven.

Even if we get 30 odd starts from him during the season, it'll be great. Good passing is a tremendous asset and with youri in midfield, I can't wait to see the link up.
 
We wouldn’t get much money if we sold him and I doubt any team would match his current salary either. We can’t give him a new contract because he simply can’t stay for so try and get one more year and maybe 15 or so league games out of him and evaluate then.

Him, Shaw and Mount are all in the same category for me, they have no future beyond their current deals, maybe the one year options they have if we’re desperate but that’s it.

A player who now has so little intensity, and running. He’s a shadow of the player he once was because he plays wanting not to get injured.

Also in the year we have played the least games in over 100 years.

Do you really think Shaw and Martinez and a combination we should rely on next season?
 
We are not actually in a terrible situation here. Everyone knows he can be good, when he is fit, but that he is quite injury prone. Currently he has one year left on his deal with an option for an additional year. We can simply see how the first 4-5 months of this season goes and then decide if we want to use that option or not. If it goes well it's not that much of a risk to give him another year. If he gets injured or doesn't play well, it's also not a disaster to let his contract run out. We wouldn't get a transfer fee in that scenario, but we certainly shouldn't be extending contracts just based on the hope of being able to sell.

In general, I think it should be normalized to let contracts run out - both from the players side and clubs side.
 
Not worth selling him now. Injury history is obviously bad, but for money we would get selling him, we would be better off with him available for 30 games.
 
Always found him to be massively overrated on here. He's always on the verge of getting a red. Prone to stupid mistakes, and is in the physio room more than Phil Jones.
