Lisandro Martínez | 2026/27 Performances

Unless we have a world class ball playing defender to come in then it would be stupid to sell Martinez this window unless a phenomenal offer arrived.

His skill set is difficult to find along with the level of experience he possesses. His performances at the World Cup showcased that.

No question marks over his talent, the problem is staying fit. 65 starts from 152 possible league games in 4 seasons is dreadful. You just can't build around that level of availability, certainly at centre back anyway.

How exactly did Licha miss 437 days in a single season? That doesn't make sense.

Yeah stats like this with no context are just misleading. We know he has missed more games than normal but it’s about working out a way to keep him fit to get the best out of him from now for me. Some say sell him but not many clubs would buy a player with his injury record currently and it’s not like there’s been interest from any reputable reports so a move away is moot at the minute.

Hopefully we can keep a majority of the squad fit and be able to rotate players like him and Shaw in when we need quality/experience.

Well possibly less than 437 days/annum... I would guess.

I think we all realise the flaw in the presentation there. But thanks.

Mount has been injured for 394 days during his three year United career. While Shaw has been injured for 1692 days during his 12 year United career (those days out injured include missing time playing for England). So they are pretty similar, with the caveat that Shaw actually did have that horrific leg break that left him out injured for 298 days, while Mount just repeatedly picks up injuries.

In short, they are both injury prone, much like Martinez, like Varane, like Jones.

Have they updated anyone on the time he may miss due to the World Cup injury? Wasnt he subbed off in Argentina's game due to a knock he picked up?

For what it's worth, it was supposedly a very minor strain that meant he had to come off in the final, but shouldn't stop him from returning to full training after his holiday.

He is returning a bit later though, so I imagine it's unlikely he'll be match fit for the first game of the season.
