Seems strange to be laughing at Liverpool after they've won the title but they have brought it on themselves. Everything with that club has to be hyperbole, everything has to be special or magical. They couldn't just win the league and enjoy, in their eyes it had to be better and more impressive than everyone else even when it wasn't. This means more? No it doesn't, it means the same as any other title win. In fact it means much less than the likes of Leicester winning it as that was so unexpected. Liverpool have actually been alot less impressive than last year but their fans have built it up so much that they must now face ridicule for failing to deliver on the hype.
Great post. Couldn’t agree more.

The wankers were revelling in their ‘Unbearables’ moniker and constantly being smarmy, smug bastards whenever they fluked a late win (which was the majority of the time).

They have brought this on themselves and they deserve every bit of schadenfreude at their expense.

They've cared so much all season about records. No team has ever done this before, done that before. First team ever to do this and that. Gargantuan. Massive. Huge. Etc etc.

Dortmund meltdown part II incoming next season?
At this point in time it’s a possibility. The players look dead on their feet. They don’t have great squad depth. If the ANC is not cancelled then they will lose Mane & Salah for a period of time.
the indications are that they won’t spend much money this window due to circumstances, whereas under normal conditions they would have to start strategically getting replacements for the older key squad members. I expect a lot of their kids will get game time next season so a lot will rest in whether they are ready.
lastly, they are champions. It’s much harder to hold on to it when everyone is out to get you.

On the positive for them, they’ve now won it, so that increased pressure is gone.

imho they won’t win it next season

I'm half expecting City to make a sly bid for Van Dijk. Wouldn't be surprised if he feels like it's a good time to jump ship.

I also think people are overlooking the lack of commitment of the team in these last season games. I know motivation is long gone, but they are showing poor professionalism. This would be the equivalent of a company breaking sales records and suddenly the employees stop answering the clients requests.

Many valid points but many will argue do they need to improve? It's been sickening watching them win by so far and it's more about catch up than anything. It's looking increasingly unlikely they won't be buying anyone in the market this summer, espically when you consider their about to offer Lovren a new contract as he's certainly a weak link in their armour.

What is it you get for winning the league? Think it's around 140 million or there abouts. This should be put into transfer fund but what I've noticed about Liverpool is they only seem to buy big when they sell big so can se the money going into Fenway Sports back pockets.

They do have a young striker who's on loan at Swansea knocking a few goals in. Actually score a very good one last night, he called Brewster but still early days to see if he can bring that type of football to Premier league standards.

Think you've hit nail on the head in regards to youngster being given their head next year.

If we're going to fight for the premier league in 20/21 were still a couple of players short. Top four shouldn't be a problem but knocking those feckers of top two will prove very difficult. I've openly said we need some help along Maguire as improvement definitely needed in that defensive department.

He'd get a decent reception on his Anfield return. If it's still empty because of a pandemic.

To answer your first question, I think City, United and probably Chelsea will be much stronger next season. There will be more of a challenge than this season that’s for sure.

other teams are starting to work them out too.

you know what surprised me was seeing that stat about them using a long ball/direct football. That will only work for so long.

I just haven't worked out yet if Lampard the right man to take the chavs forward, bit like Ole but so far he's proving me wrong and long may it continue.

I think the long ball already catching them out as it was apparent before lockdown. However, since lockdown they have only been playing in 3rd gear so wouldn't read anything into the remainder of the season.

Next year can't come to soon, I'm already looking when's the next time we play as can't come quick enough. :D

That doesn't sound right so quick check... yeah they only lost 3 in the CL. 8 is still quite a lot for a supposed superteam, no need to embellish it.
They lost 3 in group and 2 times to Atletico. 3 + 2 was 5 when I went to school mate.

They definitely wanted a record points total.

It’s not just a Liverpool thing, it happened to Utd as well, who lost 3 games in a row I believe after winning the league one year. The intensity has gone, that extra 1% needed has gone from their game.

Liverpool have clearly been the best team in the league, but they aren’t as good as they think they are. Without the intensity, and need to win, then any team can beat them.

They have nothing to play for. Wry hard to get out of that mindset. They won’t be bothered about losing to Chelsea. The record books show they are champions, and that’s all that matters.
you say that and I agree with you but I’m not sure klopp feels that way, he seems o sensed with records more than trophies as we’ve seen this year with his team selections and there’s a 50 game unbeaten record or Anfield in the line ain’t there so I can see him liking that record to go for

Again, another person tells me they lost 3 in the group! What the feck is happening. I've already checked it on uefa.com, on Wikipedia, on livescore... if someone else tries to tell me they lost three in the group stage, I might just watch all the games to make sure I don't have a brain tumor or something.

Please can someone else, an independent third party, also go to uefa.com, and check out Group E? I feel like I'm going insane. On my screen it definitely looks like they drew to Napoli at Anfield, lost in Naples, and won the other four games.

edit: I've also considered that maybe you are not talking about Liverpool but some other team. For example, Atalanta did lose three in the group stage. But then you say they lost twice to Atlético and Atalanta didn't do that.

Sorry you are correct. They lost 3 times last season in group stage. All away from home.

I also wonder if they have been 'found out' a little. They struggle against teams who sit deep (see athletico and indeed v us for last for years). Cut off their full back supply line and make sure you have deep lying midfielders to pick up the breaking ball after they lump it long as they like to do and they struggle to score.

It happens to every great team

First they blow everyone away and teams can barely handle them.
Then teams start to slowly figure out how to play against.
After that injuries or inconsistency starts to creep in.

Being dynamic is one way to keep a great run going but also hunger is the other thing that drives teams on. Few teams have had that hunger and we'll see if Liverpool still have that same hunger come next season.

I would cry with laughter. He does seem the type that will move on at some point.
He effectively went on strike to force his move from Southampton. Would be glorious if it happened at Anfield too.

He turned down City to go there, why would he jump ship after he's just been vindicated in that decision?

A good team can win a league title. Great teams can retain the league title and sensational, legendary teams will win 3 or more league titles in a row.

United had two of those latter teams in the Premier league era. 1999 to 2001 and 2007 to 2009.

They certainly will throw against Chelsea now but with their current form it won’t make any difference and we can still get what we need anyway.
They won't want to lose their unbeaten home record.

I haven't seen the stat, but I have a German friend who's been ranting about Liverpool's long ball since last year. He's been saying Liverpool's not convincing and will get found out in Europe. I dismissed it as typical Bavarian arrogance, but he was 100% right.

In the end, Liverpool were extremely lucky in key moments of the league and City were extremely unlucky (losing stupid matches they should have easily won), and I think next year City will win it back.

I meant that in a "I expect more from Maguire" sense rather than defending VVD
Ok. Van dijk is much better than maguire obviously but it’s annoying how some fans jump on his every mistake. He has been solid for us, but he’s slower than a bus over the first 5 yards, which we all knew before he signed.

I think we are entitled to expect more from Maguire considering he cost more than Van Dijk. Has Maguire been solid for us, yes at times but that is the very least you expect from a Manchester United center half. You expect more from a player that cost 80m and a player who was made club captain half way through his first season. We should be seeing Stam/Vidic/Rio levels of performances from Harry and we are not seeing that yet. I think we need to sign a quick aggressive center half in the summer to complement Harry, Ake for me would be a good partner for him.

If they had done that after winning the Charity Shield, then fine. But no matter how much them winning the title pains me, there is nothing small time about this.

We did overpay for him by about 20 million but that’s today’s market. You have to pay obscene amounts for good not great players. Pepe for Arsenal cost 75m and he has a wooden right leg. The main thing is we got the player and he’s an upgrade to what we had.
Everyone expects more from pogba for 90m yet his market value has probably gone up. Stam/rio/vidic would cost a lot more than maguire today and Van dijk.
I agree, we definitely need another top quality center back with pace for the right center back position, but there aren’t many stand outs.
