I don’t think Liverpool will beat Real but if that were the case, the name is: Mickey Mouse treble a la 2001 with Houllier.
We didn’t win the CL with Houllier but any combo with the CL is nothing to be sneezed at. Someday maybe you will find out how big the CL is.

How does winning a CL make it a Mickey Mouse anything? It’d be our 18-19 season with two trophies added on.
It would better Houllier's treble. Swapping the UEFA Cup for the Champions League is a nice upgrade. Although missing out on the Premier League title for the league cup would make it a lesser treble than ours.

Well captain obvious, the CL is bigger than the UEFA and the PL is bigger than the league. You are right. But a League Cup, an FA Cup, and a Champions League is an amazing season. You actually disagree with this?

All I will say is if the unthinkable happens - just shut out this horrible memory (and this thread. Definitely the thread) and look ahead to our resurgence under ETH. No point in giving them rent-free mind space.

It’s a treble, but it’s not the treble. The league is your bread and butter.

You are right. Really the only thing keeping United’s table intact is City keeping Liverpool at bay. City just aren’t European material it would seem. I think United’s treble is in jeopardy for the next 3-5 years until Klopp and Pep leave. Until then there’s a chance every year.

Our season will be a success if we win either the CL or the PL.

Our season will be a huge failure if our trophy haul won’t increase this year anymore. Simple, really!

Meh, they’ve been saying that for the last 5 years. Thing is, in reality no-one has actually gotten close.
The best argument so far was City in 2020-21, who didn’t even make the FA Cup final and ended up with 1 of the 3.
This season even now, Liverpool have been second favourites for the league and have been looking at an uphill battle for weeks. So even with all the fortune of two final wins on penalties, you have just one of the three in the bag, another (the league) looks gone and has for weeks and the CL final is a 50/50.

Well it’s not is it? Because you haven’t beaten Madrid yet.

People get carried away with the treble, thinking too often that it’s “close”; fact is, it’s never close until it’s done. So much can alter it.

Thinking it’s close when there’s a very good chance Liverpool end up with just an FA Cup tells you all you need to know. People really should shut the feck up about the treble until it’s done, but every year we see the same bollocks of people convincing themselves someone is close.

Finish the season with any trophy is good for Arsenal, man Utd and Spurs. Even the famous 4th place trophy!!!

Obviously the CL alone makes it a great season. So add in the FA and the league/blah Cup and it's even better. Nobody can dispute that.

But the league and CL (and if any others making it a treble or quadruple) will always be the greatest club accomplishments.

You are right. We almost had it friggin 45 yrs ago except you ruined it. It is the mark of the best season a team could have even though we won’t admit it sometimes. The invincibles and City’s big point season aside the Treble is the one. That hurt.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Why do people do this?
reverse psychology or jinx ?
is Nero secretly betting heavily on Liverpool to win the Quadruple ?
Indeed, it seems Nero has quite the obsession with this strange angle.

Reads a lot like a superstitious dipper, doesn’t it?
No it's not. It's also not happening.

City are more likely to win both the league and the CL.
Quadruple is dead. It's over.

Chelsea have this one locked down. Quadruple nonsense ends officially tonight.
Quadruple dream ended today.

Liverpool's draw with Spurs gave City the cushion of knowing they could afford one draw themselves.

They'll breeze past Villa.

Utd are the only team to win both the CL and PL in same season. Oh and we did it twice :)

Not Wengers Invincible
Not Mourhinos amazing Chelsea
Not Peps incredible City
Lets see if the greatest ever team in the world can…..

if they win the quadruple, does it straight away top the 99 treble season or are there other factors for a debate between the 2?

Liverpool won the League and European Cup double twice. Just be happy you have the treble. :)

Beckham alone tilts it on the good looks scale

Kidding aside, Uniteds path to the CL final was on a different level to Liverpool's, but still, 4>3

It tops it by a good margin too. To win all four trophies in this era of oil money clubs would be a fantastic season that would never be topped

Well, 2 of the trophies won were won without them having to score a single goal in the final.

We won the league the year before and successfully defended it, then won it again a year later. Point being, we were clearly the best team in the league and didn’t have to rely on favourable refs and poor VAR interpretation.

Our CL win was a proper CL run. They played Inter, Benfica and Villareal.

But obviously people will market this as the best thing that’s ever happened.

If liverpool wins the quadruple it will be because of Gerrard show in the final day and then a revenge against Madrid in the CL final. Add potential relegation of Everton and Utd finishing in conference play offs :nervous:  .

According to recent reports, the scousers are planning to invoke the spirits of past greats Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Gerrard Houlier to put a deadly curse on the City team.

I ain't afraid of no ghost, for sure, but the prospect of seeing the ghostly visage of Roy Evans in full-kit terrifies me to my very core.

If Man City don’t pummel Villa then it’s a conspiracy. Even when they were 8 points clear they would have taken having to beat Villa at home to win the league.

Any trophy haul that includes the Champions League is great. It would still be decent enough without it, but it really carries a lot of weight. What would make it all the more amazing is that City are actually a better side than you, but you would have three trophies.

The quadruple would top our treble, don't see any way to argue against it.

I would say that the level of competition in both the league, FA Cup and the CL was much closer in 99. There were way more draws because there were very few dead rubber matches.

For the league in '99 we went in to the last 2 games where one of three teams could still win it. There was a really strong Leeds side who came 4th and Harry's Hammers were a strong 5th place. You compare that to this season and its Liverpool and City out on their own by a mile with the rest of the big 6 stuttering over the line, all well off the pace and no one really putting pressure on them.

In terms of the CL in '99 we had the proper group of death with Barcelona and Bayern, then Inter Juventus and Bayern in the knockouts. All those teams had world class players and any one of them could have won it.

In the FA Cup we had to beat Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool along the way. The final was a bit of a cake walk but thats cos we had knocked out all the big teams.

I mean its obviously because Klopp and Pep have put together such good teams but when you can steam roll your opponents for 98% of the games you play surely its significantly reducing the difficulty setting.

It would but they’re all cup competitions. The league is the bread and butter. You won’t have been able to call yourself the best team in Europe since the 80’s.

2 cups in the bag already , taking the premier league title conclusion to the last day and a champions league final.
I think its already a success to be honest.
