Could easily sign him and with the view that he joins next season. It’s not like the transfer window ends that chance. Teams do it all the time.
If we were in for him how was it going to work anyway? He's playing a game right now. How does he consent to a move? Do they call him over to the touchline to sign a document? What about a medical?
Can't say I agree. If you go around always willing to pay a few million more you'll find yourself overpaying an awful lot.

Unfortunately that is the transfer market right now. You have to pick your battles. Most players bought by big clubs are costing 20 million over what you would think was reasonable for them. I don't even care about this kid but to spend weeks trying to sign him and then miss out over 1-2 million is just poor.
I would add that we're not the only one's who didn't feel the need to give Leicester £15m for this kid.
This one is a little bit embarrassing I have to say. A United fan, highly rated, obviously was up for the deal and United played hardball for the last few weeks of the window right up to the end... over 2 million quid... with a league 1 team for their best young player.. it just doesn't sit right with me

Absolutely, mixed signals. He's a starter for them. Obviously if we didn't meet their valuation they were going to be happy to keep him and play him till the next window at least. The only angle I can see is United thinking they'd cave and lower the price in the final hours of the window for whatever reason. It just makes us look like we are trying to bully a club who were happy to sell us the player and we've been playing games since. Seems really small time

Failing to raise even 20m in sales excluding hoijlund deal this summer is crazy and failing to buy TWO full backs will be our big mistake just like no cm last summer was

No big deal. Ideally we should just pay up but I still think we'll come back for him, if not in January next summer, and get him on a cheaper deal. Player buy-in isn't an issue here.
Not sure why there is outcry and “deal off”, don’t think Page was ever going to linkup with us straight away regardless. Can still get a deal down and leave him have plenty of minutes at Leicester. But we’d need agreement done soon anyway as fee will increase week on week
With Baleba Tielemanns Santos Mainoo Bruno potentially playing CM this season he would have got nowhere near the team apart from league cup appearances. I'd have stayed at Leicester too tbh.
Feels like the sort of story where we come very close to signing an exciting talent, and then when they eventually move he’s leapfrogging us to a more recently successful side.

Judt watched game hoping we may still sign him, however then realised we screwed it up by lowballing Leicester

We are absolutely skint and were relying heavily on sales this summer which didn't happen for various reasons.
If we had £8m to offer then could have gone to £12m as surely it was worth it for his potential
Not buying that we are too skint to spend 10-15m more. It's clear that we have a no value in the market / be cheap strategy rather than a completely dry well of funds.
I said in regards to the left back situation. Imagine Shaw went down with an injury in mid-late August, that scans revealed would keep him out for 5 months.
How much would you bet all of a sudden these "cash flow issues" get forgotten about and we suddenly find the money for a left back. I would bet everything I own we'd have a new left back right now.
Proving we are doing the bare minimum through choice. Or arguably, less than the bare minimum.
