From the creators who sunk Star Wars and The Twilight Zone, comes a new pile of shite.

I assume it's a reference to H.P. Lovecraft? So it's a mystery/horror story wrapped within a story of 50s/60s racism in America?

It's based on a novel apparently, never heard of the book. If it can pull off doing Lovecraft stuff on screen better than some other attempts (John Carpenters 'In The Mouth of Madness' being the best attempt I've seen) then it'll definitely have some value.

I'll judge it when it comes out. The trailer has my attention. Haven't seen the last Star Wars movies, nor the twilight reboot.

Great first episode. The conversation I see being had is what scenes had more intensity; police scenes or when the creatures arrived?

Well, it was kinda decent, but if they continue with that modern remix rap crap, there goes the horror atmosphere and my interest in the show, terrible music choice, feels out of place. I thought it was only in the trailer, but unfortunately not.

Just finished episode 1. Really enjoyed it, very different and I am a fan of Lovecraft's work so excited for the rest.

Think that was part of it. What shocks you more: brutal police racism or bloodthirsty creatures? I'd go,police.

Looks pretty cool, but wasn't H. P Lovecraft cancelled?
Cancelled? You mean the lynch mob raving about his racism that was already known about long time ago? And he was more of a Xenophobe if anything. But towards the end of his life he admitted his flaws and ignorance.

Imagine not having "cancel" victims so you go after a man that is dead for almost 100 years.

For me it's the police because it is intertwined with a whole system. We will see as the season progresses though.

So the Caf says it's quite good ?

Gonna watch 1st episode, just hoping for more Lovecraftian horror than CGI action and other needless stuff.

Another interesting episode.

It was driving me mad where I had seen the old fella’s wife before, but I eventually guessed correctly..

He was an absolute, unambiguous full on racist and anti-semite and prior to his death remained an open and vocal racist, albeit in a slightly more nuanced manner.

I have no idea what that emoji means. Blinkered I assume? He never repented in any way.

Firstly, to describe Lovecraft's views as "more of a xenophobe if anything" is just false. He is unambiguous about this in his personal correspondence and I'm sure you'd agree his work drips not just with eldritch horrors but clear and open racism. His antisemitism is also openly admitted and stated repeatedly in his copious correspondence. In his early life he even hated the celts and saw purity only in the "Nordics". He was, obviously, a xenophobe too.

In the mid 30s he was expressing a, lets kindly call it a, nuanced view on racism. Less than three years before his death he wrote:
"With the high-grade alien races we can adopt a policy of flexible common-sense—discouraging mixture whenever we can, but not clamping down the bars so ruthlessly against every individual of slightly mixed ancestry. As a matter of fact, most of the psychological race-differences which strike us so prominently are cultural rather than biological. If one could take a Japanese infant, alter his features to the Anglo-Saxon type through plastic surgery, & place him with an American family in Boston for rearing—without stemming him that he is not an American—the chances are that in 20 years the result would be a typical American youth with very few instincts to distinguish him from his pure Nordic college-mates. The same is true of other superior alien races including the Jew—although the Nazis persist in acting on a false biological conception."

I think it's pretty hard to call that anything other than racist and less enthusiastically supporting the KKK after the 20s or deciding not to mention his antisemitic views to his friend Robert Bloch because it'd be a bit awkward, whilst a relative improvement, hardly qualifies as repentance.

I own many, many Lovecraft and associated books. I dream of a proper Lovecraft Movie. I'm delighted his books survive. Lots of writers, especially in the past, held abhorrent views (although it's generally not as blatant in their fiction itself) and he's not alone. However, he must be viewed through the prism of what he was: a horrible, documented and unrepentant racist.

So:wenger: back at you malignant reptile you.

I read The Call of Cthulhu a while back and half the story is him putting across how vile these fecking low, mixed-blooded, mentally aberrant, half-caste mulatto mongrel creatures in Louisiana are.

All you can really do is laugh at it.

geko thinks any form of media that criticizes racism, homophobia etc. shouldn't be allowed anyway.

Only watched one episode and about 25% of it was horror. The transition into horror was actually quite jarring. As though you were suddenly watching a completely different show to what you had been watching up until that point. Definitely worth a watch anyway, if you like horror, I’d say.

Cool I'll check it out. Starved of good TV at the moment.

That was bananas, and not in a good way.

If the point was to make absolutely no sense then mission accomplished.
