Lucien Agoume

At least during the period of time the full Ineos team was not on board long enough yet?
They took over football operations in the January. Wilcox was in place and Vivell was appointed in early July. He was signed near the end of the summer window.

Still too early. There were many areas/departments/personnel to upgrade/revamped.

He is definitely not slow. But he isnt a All action athletic midfielder either like we seemingly want.
I think the profile we want is someone like a Collyer ground coverage but with better ball skills. If he is a sitter I don't think we'll fancy him.

The fact he wasn't even referenced in Dealsheet says to me there's no legs to this one, all is coming from only one Seville source which is very telling.
You're probably right. This is the link that twitter and redcafe pseudo analysts manifested. I researched him about a month ago and the data points to him as a great option. You can find the conversation I had on here. I haven't seen him play so no idea how his game translates to the epl.

Did they need more than ten months to know Ugarte was a bad idea? It wasn’t the old regime is the ultimate point and our best signing since they came in is Yoro and he was the first.

So far there is zero evidence they are excellent. De Ligt, Zirkzee, Dorgu all have question marks on them (though definitely better than some previous windows) and Ugarte is seen as terrible. Mbuemo, Cunha and Sesko have played 1 game!

I think people are saying that Amorim's signings have looked good this year so far, albeit in preseason and 1 real game. They are saying that Zirkzee and Ugarte are EtH signings.

Not sure how his game translates especially from the Spanish league. Here's a profile summary done by one of the EPL teams analysts.

seems like a high defensive output and quite cheap

is. he more of a sitter than an all action like Baleba? Seems that way from the stats

Remember during that time there was Ashworth who was reported to have football vision not in line with the Ineos team.

After Amorim (Ineos choice of manager) was appointed and the signings after that seems to be different. Fingers crossed

His stats portray him as very well-rounded, which would be a welcome sign for those unhappy with our current specialised (though not great) options. Could complement any of the other players then depending on the opposition.

I can't speak to Agoume but we'll need depth next season with Casemiro coming to the end of his contract and likely Collyer sold (possibly Ugarte as well). So it wouldn't preclude a future purchase of another midfielder with Kone filling one of those spots if he's up to it?

As much as I'd love us to sign a Baleba level player now, it's not going to happen, but we still need better quality in midfield as a whole now and into the future.

Speed isnt and never will be a requirement for central midfield
Being very fast isn't a requirement, but being very slow is a detriment. Especially if the player is slow over the first few yards.

Taken from here.

Peak sprint velocity 99th percentile - reflects the peak speed of a player and his ability to reach it multiple times
OTIP = Opposition Team In Possession
Baleba for comparison:

Carrick was great without speed. Loads of older midfielders did great even in their 30s.
I don't think Carrick was slow per se, but he was relatively easy to run past. Especially towards the end of his career.

Carrick was pretty quick once he was in full stride but certainly wasn't the fastest off the mark. A lot mentioning that they'd rather go for Baleba next year than this deal, but I don't think us signing Agoume necessarily means we won't pursue Baleba next year.

I fear about getting Ugarte 2.0.. Agoume's first touch/technical ability has me worried, because when you notice this in the "best of" highlight, one could imagine how it actually looks throughout a game. I'd steer clear

It was also 10+ years ago. The PL has changed and evolved.
Absolutely. Try and field a 4-4-2 with Carrick and Scholes in midfield like we did routinely in 07/08, and see where that gets you in 2025. So many teams now have physically powerful midfielders with good technical ability.

Collyer has gone for the year, Kone is injured

That leaves us Casemiro, Bruno, Ugarte, Mainoo

So on that basis it makes sense to bring in a cheap punt or loan deal

and I still think Bruno and Mainoo are better no10s, or up the pitch. They feel shoe horned in midfield like McT

Amorim would seem to disagree, as he specifically cited the lack of pace in midfield as an issue during pre-season:

The gaps between our sectors was sometimes too big. We have a lack of pace, especially in the middle of the park and you can feel it is hard to win and bring the ball.

Agreed, also does it really take a huge amount of expertise to realise mbuemo and cunha are good 10s. Finding a decent midfielder for 30-40m seems like more of a test of their acumen but should be eminently possible

Can’t see us getting Baleba next summer. The cats out of the bag and next summer Chelsea, Liverpool & City will come in with £125-150M bids and that’s us done.

Pep will try to convert him into a full back.
The scousers will play him up front with Isak.
And Chelsea will loan him out to Antwerp.

We were heavily linked to him at the start of the summer after we knew Partey wouldn't renew. We ended up getting Norgaard instead as Arteta wanted EPL experience apparently.

For that price it seems worth a punt. We'll need more than just Baleba next summer anyway as Casemiro will be off, so this could just be Casemiro's replacement one year ahead of schedule.

I know nothing about him but judging from this video he looks pretty good. Big, strong and seems to have a decent first touch.
