He's like Rooney/Carrick, where he needs to play a few games in a row to get going. Once he does, he's the best defender we have really.

For a game or two, until he picks up another knock. Sooner or later though, it's going to be an injury too far and he doesn't come back the same way. We can use him for now, given we don't have a choice with his contract, but can't rely on him.

Was really poor but has barely played over the last year or so so it is understandable. Should get minutes in league games to ideally come back to form.

He looked absolutely massive yesterday right? And not in a good way.

I can't warm to Shaw at all. The injuries are unfortunate but carrying all that extra weight can't do him any favours at all. He doesn't strike me as a player who does everything he can and leaves no stone unturned in order to get fit enough to play for the club he's been at for a decade.

He was garbage tonight but he should start vs Wolves and build on his fitness.

The starting back 3 from tonight don’t need the minutes vs Wolves.
He was garbage and looked a stone overweight, however when he got forward with Amass, his delivery looked a huge upgrade on Dorgu, he’s nowhere near match fitness and needs to seriously listen to the club dietician.

We know he’s a heavy bone set but he looked 14-15 stone last night and I say his optimal weight at 6’0 should be about 13 stone 7 pounds.

He needs a good pre-season, been out for too long. Get rid if we can, but I highly doubt anyone would take hin, maybe for free.

This is not how a body of a player paid 200k/week who has constant injuries should look like. Come on man, it seems he thought his season was already done.

He was always going to take time to get up to match sharpness following the length of absence(s) he has had and he was decent on the ball.

That's not an excuse for his arse encompassing two postcodes though. I know he's stocky but that's a bit beyond.

Shaw at this point can only give us a few minutes here and there. The contract is what it is so he's not going anywhere, but his body is ravaged and I don't see him having much of a career left ahead of him even though he's still only 29.

I’m not concerned about Shaw’s weight as long as it doesn’t hinder his running and overall movement.

He looked to be taking up the same space as Harry and we struggled massively. How did we have 5 defenders out there and yet Lyon constantly had people open and unmarked at the back post. Terrible.

And yes, he looked massive. His kit looked painted on.

In fairness, he takes up the space of most players.

Dude must be built like an NFL running back because I can't imagine the club would let him be that big if it was all chub.

The last few meaningless premier league games should be his last for the club. Wouldn't be surprised if he retired.

Why would he retire if he has 2 more years in his contract? That's probably 15 million there. The only solution for us is that we find someone wants to loan him (even for 60% of his wages). But I doubt it.

2 PL games before the next Europa. Needs to play a fair bit in both. He is better than he showed last night. If he can get back some form he could be useful.

Least he could do as a long term injury is watch his weight. We have to stop giving absurd wages to unprofessional players.

I would offer him a free transfer as no one will pay anything and amortization doesnt apply. Get his 10 mill a year wages off the books. If we keep and play him you know it will be 2/3 matches and 6 months on the sidelines again.

Certainly looks heavy. What are the medical dept doing allowing him to get that weight. What will he be like when he stops eating I mean playing.

Shocking for the penalty and well off the pace...but good to have some kind of ability on the ball from a left footer given how shocking Dorgu was. Low bar and all.

Given the choices, him coming on was still a better outcome than Lindelof.

Maybe if he didn't travel with England in the summer or make music videos in the winter I would be more forgiving. But in all honesty, not likely. We all work with different types of people, some people are a little sick and still come to work and power through it, because thats what you have to do as an adult and some people get the sniffles and call in for the next 3 days to recover, they could easily come to work and just keep their distance from people, but they use the opportunity to get out of work. Shaw is the later. I don't doubt he has some level of injury, but what professional footballer doesn't, most are playing through injury at this point of the season. He can't wait to sit on the sideline and cash his check. And often times these injuries seem to coincide with when the team isn't doing good, the Rangnick season, he just checked out with a couple months to go, Ten Hag's first season, he was there when things were good, until we won the League Cup, and as soon as things started to turn after that he just checked out for the remainder of the season and has basically never come back. Guarantee if Amorim came in in November and we went on a massive positive run that he would have miraculously been fit and started playing.
This is such a bad post. Every single thing in it is wrong.

Carrying that bulk on top seems nuts considering his frequent leg injuries after the leg break. I'm no sports health expert but you'd have thought they'd want to be minimising to the extent practical the amount of force continually going through his leg.

He ended up playing a full 90 minutes so was expecting him to be rested today!

I was surprised not to see him at all today. At the same time, I thought he was truly terrible against Lyon, so I didn't particularly mind.

Please get rid, please for the love of God, just get rid of him and Hojlund.

Looks much more interesting as a LWB than is a member of the back 3. In the back 3 he's a liability. As a LWB he's quite positive, good on the ball, and creative.
