His contract is till 2027, right? I can see him staying until then, which is fine by me. People give him sh*t for injuries which aren't his fault. Since Jose left, whenever he's been for he's been one of our better performers. Yes he does have bad games but generally when fit, he's usually solid and technically brilliant.

Will make no sense to extend his contract as he'll be 32 when it expires, but no issues keeping him until then. As you say, this year he's been mostly very good.
My bad. He's one of those who have benefited from 1 game per week

Why wouldn't it make sense? He can play CB and FB without needing to use his pace all that much, we ought to take the decision when the time comes based on what we're seeing from him but it doesn't seem unreasonable that we might want to extend his deal if he's still playing well.
As he gets older, his injury record will not get better. The muscle damage that break caused his leg has never really healed ( Shaw's own words) and as he gets older it will continue causing complications. Don't get me wrong, I've long defended him on here, and find it abhorrent that people criticise him for his injuries (something that's not his fault), and find him a technically brilliant player. But giving him a new contract at 32 would be a massive risk, unless it comes with a wage cut or pay as you play kind of deal.

But wage cuts/stagnation and 1 year deals are what players in their 30s often get. We used to do it with the likes of Giggs, Scholes and Gaz so I'm not sure why it would be offensive to offer to the likes of Shaw and Maguire if we still have a use for them.

Agreed, thats helped him a lot. Hes done well in both the back three but now the LB (especially if he has Dorgu in front of him).

Do think we need to still look to get a replacement in the summer.

Arsenal 2:3 Man Utd
Top class today, MOTM for me, gave Saka nothing.

Saka ran away from him, and Madueke looked like an amateur against him.

At what point does the qualifier “quietly” stop being part of the having a good season statement?

Just an absolute nuisance to wingers when he decides to give 100%. Gave Saka nothing and combined so well with Martinez. The years, injuries have diminished him but talent doesn't lie. One of those players who would be much more respected without 1 or 2 major events. He was meant to be an absolutely world-class fullback but he never quite got there.

Yeah, we just don't see this every week and the other side of the coin is so bad. Very happy for games like today though.

He is an excellent player, one of the most talented in the league, when he is on he is pretty much a world class full back in all facets of play.

an excellent performance today. When he’s fit and performing, he is really one of the best in the league. Saka was good but he struggled with luke. Very well positioned, strong physically and gave it his all

Think I’m the only one who thought he struggled with Saka; was too slow and conceded many balls into the box - and Saka isn’t that fast. Improved a lot as the game wore on though. Gave Madueke nothing.

That’s mad. He barely gave Saka a sniff. He was class.

The most impressive thing is his body holding up as a fullback. Thought those days were long behind him. I pray he can maintain what he's doing from a physical POV.

Saka barely threatened the entire game. If the ref didn’t give him free kicks from diving, nobody would know he played.

So true and so unfortunate. Was the next truly great LB and natural successor to Ashley Cole.

Extremely rare to have everything needed to be an all-time great wrapped up in the package he was before the horrific leg break. He's doing all this delimited, which is often forgotten.

Didnt need to attack much last 2 games which helped. Dorgu managed the whole left side. It will be different next few games.

I thought Saka got some joy in the first 25-30 minutes of the game and after that he shut him out. Nothing wrong with that - Saka will create issues for most fullbacks.

For me it's his first touch still. One of the best at the club with Mbeumo. Playing a lot less games has been helpful too

I suspect he'll stay another season and leave when his contract is up in 2027. And I'm OK with that. He's not exactly a buccaneering LB anymore but he's solid defensively and, by all accounts, a decent pro these days. It also makes sense to give Amass another loan next season for extra seasoning before returning to compete in the first team in 2027. I'd suggest we'll also be buying a first choice LB in the Summer as, I dare say, Dorgu looks better as a LW.

Fair play to Shaw because I think he's earnt another year to see out his contract, ala Casemiro, when many were righting him off. It makes sense to move on from him when his contract is up, however.

Obviously a lot easier physically in games where we sit and have little of the ball. He's barely got past the halfway line in the last two games.

Much bigger physical test to come when we want him overlapping etc.

Pocketed Saka, made him really frustrated. He's so smart as a defender and always plays with his head up watching the eyes of the passer so he reads the game so well too and makes a lot of interceptions from that. Really pleased for him.

Call me Cynthia but Shaw has been riding the gravy train for years. Had a renaissance leading up to the last international tournament and surprise, surprise.. he we go again. Don’t get me wrong, he still is a terrific player when he is switched on and motivated but he sure knows how to milk it, especially now he has a bit of competition and the writing is on the wall regarding his age. Was good yesterday and superb vs city which, actually, annoys me cos you’d have to be totally blind to think he is anything other than only interested in Luke Shaw. When needs must he suddenly beats Bruno for availability, which is surprising bearing in mind his sudden robustness in his advancing years. Self preservation at its best. Still, good to have him as an option.

He missed almost the entirety of the last international tournament after returning early from injury for us and getting injured again as a result.

At least you admit your bias to go along with your lies.

Nah. It's due to the fixture calendar this year letting him recover properly between games and not jumping in planes every week and having his recovery interrupted. We often play an extra 15-20 games on top of this season that pretty much force an extra 15 plane trips through the season for all your European always. It has a huge impact on your body.

Kept Saka quiet but I thought he showed him too much respect sometimes and didn't close him quick enough. Thus allowed him to turn and gave him space to cut to the line and cut it back and getting some cheap corners out of it. Also looked gassed towards the end. But all in all looked good. What is weird to me is how poor we looked in the first part of the game. Totally out of ideas before the opening goal. As soon as we conceded we decided that we will start to play football. And as soon as we did that and put a bit of a pressure on Arsenal they shitted themselves. For all the squad strength Arsenal have they are so weak mentally and they crumble as soon as you put them under a bit of pressure. Such a weird season. Not the best team but the least shit team will win it in the end.

Hi, Cynthia.

;)
Look at his history. How many years at club? How many appearances?

Only the terminally naive would think otherwise. The club always comes first.

Passenger. Lucky to escape the “bomb squad “

Some of us are United fans - some have their pin-ups

Just a few weeks ago we had people saying Amorim couldn't switch to a back 4 because we had no one who was capable of playing at left back. Shaw wasn't capable of it anymore apparently.

He's looked more than alright there in the last 2 games for me.
