He's been pretty good lately, but he had a stinker for that goal.

And his final ball once he gets down the byline is often so poor.

If this is a serious club he should be gone in the Summer.

Saw Tuchel was scouting tonight, if he's looking for an expert at passing backwards for his England team he may have found his man.

He can't play twice in a week and even at once a week he's not going to bomb forward and provide width in the attacking third anymore.

Doubt we can move him on given his wages, but bringing in competition should be a massive priority if the board doesn't believe Amass or Leon are ready for the first team.

and then dived into a tackle he was never making because he’s too lazy to turn and chase
This has always been a feature of his game. Seen him get booked and give away needless free kicks just diving in on wingers because he can't be bothered running with them.

He was poor. He almost did nothing offensively. Didn't put much crosses in and always pass the ball backwards. We need a new left back who will move the balls forward more.

It's not just that he always passed backwards, but that he also often dwelt on the ball when he could have run forward and then passed backwards.

We couldn't build up any momentum and the fullbacks were a big part of that.

Playing in the back 3 really suited him, because it's clear he's just not the same play going forward anymore.
Said this a few weeks back. Shaw is a defensive fullback now. His contribution to attack in terms of dynamism, athleticism and delivery is non existent. If Dorgu isn’t a left back we need a new one for sure along with a RB.

We really need better from left back
Came here to post the same. I don't even think he's bad but this version of Shaw is quite limited at LB and even though he's been fit all season, we can not bank on his fitness and need to address the position long-term.

Yep, needs to be replaced with someone who can get up and down more, he just offers no attacking threat and with playing Cunha on that side it pretty much telegraphs out attacks.

Exactly. Plays like a left sided CB when he should je sprinting up and down that left side

Decent but not more. Looks old out there, lacks some energy and desire to make things happen.
Would not mind trying Maz there, he is probably underutilized as is.

Defensively very sound, but he must have lost a lot of pace? Also, he was a non entity in attack. Don’t think he helped Cunha once down that left flank.

Looked to me like he tweaked his left hamstring on about the 87th min, he definitely winced and signaled to the bench.

I’m fully expecting him to be out injured at the weekend, which isn’t a bad thing based on tonight’s abject performance.

Thought he was poor. Dived in multiple times and doesn't really engage on or off the ball.

When we were sitting behind the ball, yeah he does a okay job...because he's in position to sit behind the ball but it's such a low expectation and standard that I have of him now.

It is a bad thing given we have no one else who can play LB to a half decent standard.

That's Shaw's game now. Full time defending, rarely if ever venturing forward. That's Dalot's job now.

Shell of the player he was yet still does an ok job considering he can't run. Need a whole new left side next season to compliment Dorgu

It’s like he’s aged overnight, was poor yesterday however he looks like he needs a rest, he’s played every game and coasted most, he was much better with Dorgu in front of him because he knew if he did go further Dorgu would have the energy to cover for him.

Dalot/Maz. Not ideal, but theyve both played LB plenty of times.
Dalot is atrocious on the left. Maz was decent there for Morocco but big difference in the quality of the PL and Afcon.

For all people might criticize Shaw, he is mostly solid and we need that until the end of the season.

He’s just had 2 weeks off. We are only playing 40 games this season.

He’s definitely playing within himself, but that’s the only way he will stay fit. Rest isn’t going to change that.

Why he always gives away cheap corners when he could easily clear it, at least for a throw-in or pass it his teammate.

Someone needs to tell him that he is not a left CB anymore. The formation has changed. He needs to make those runs now. Dalot is average but at least he is trying.

Not only that, but when he clears the ball, it hardly goes anywhere. Some defenders can head the ball away what seems like 40 yards. Shaw is more like 4 yards, on a good day - where are the neck muscles?

Yeah, I agree. He has been very consistent this season. Just not at a very high level.

Played almost every game this season, been good....one poor game, gets slated, crazy

Shaw as a FB is fine. Not great but fine. Dorgu playing ahead of him works the best as his dynamism covers Shaw's lack of it. Diouf, the young lad at West Ham, would be an ideal player to bring in and spell Shaw next season.

He's had more than one poor game. He's doing a job, a decent one, nothing special, he's not adventurous or dynamic enough with his running or movement, his passing is just safe, sideways or backwards to the inside. Offers very little attacking threat down the outside.

I'd say he just does enough, but Utd need a player at left back who can do more.

He has not been great, we have not had a good left back for a long time and that has kind of made us forget what a good fullback can do. It was obvious yesterday that Carrick knew that he couldn't go up and down so he was told to stay deeper and not really run forward too much which meant that we had no threat on the left at all. We definitely need to upgrade soon.

He's just meh... unfortunately, his best years are behind him and we desperately need more creativity and athleticism from our fullbacks especially against teams that sit back. Can no longer overlap as often as he should nor does he have any other quality to affect the game in the final third.

We definitely could do with replacing Shaw in the summer, not least because he will be injured most of next season with no World Cup or Euros to stay fit for at the end of next season.

Offensively I think he's the weakest out of Dorgu, Dalot and Mazraoui. But defensively he's probably the best.

I personally value defensive abilities more in a fullback, but there are still some concerns:

1. He doesn't seem to attack at all. The makes him a specialist in defending. But the problem with that is...
2. He still has some critical errors in his game. Particularly when he overestimates his own speed or gets caught out of position.
3. This season is an outlier. It's only a matter of time before the injuries start again.

CM is obviously the first and second priority this summer, but I would also be in favor of signing a LB.

I see it's Shaw's turn to face the ire of the caf', now that Dalot is performing better. Shaw has been excellent this season, and having his experience in there helps a lot, especially with Yoro and Heaven playing a few times. He looks assured in almost every game, does get down that line occasionally, but when Dalot gets forward, quite a lot under Carrick, do you think it's wise to have both full backs attacking at the same time? Dalot has the engine to do that, whereas Shaw almost certainly has not. It was getting up and down that line which possibly caused many of his injury problems in the past.
If Martinez was playing, I would say that Shaw would be attacking more, but having Maguire next to him, he's probably just covering the ball over the top more, due to Maguire's lack of pace.
I would say that he will be replaced sometime next season, by Dorgu, or Amass, or Kukonki, who is a beast, but having Shaw in there at the moment helps the team immensely.
I think Amass appears to be very similar to Shaw, but unfortunately his injury seems to be a nasty one, so it may be another loan spell for Amass before he's probably ready.

He's having a decent season but he doesn't shine / stand out like he did in previous seasons. Definitely lost something physically or perhaps is instructed to be more disciplined (with Dalot pushing forward on other side).
