Don't forget that half the season he was starting LCB. His injuries probably stopped him doing it too often, but after a good run of games at LB recently possibly giving him injury-free confidence, easy to see what he adds when he does go forward. We've finally had some goals coming through a wide defender going forwards.

Him starting every premier league game is one of the more incredible statistics of the season. He described last season as the toughest of his career, and everyone seemed to be piling on. So, well done Luke Shaw.
Need a replacement if you ask me, I'd bet my house on him not keeping the same level of fitness next season when there's no world cup to aim for, don't get me wrong I admire his fight and work ethic this season but I can't shake the idea he only ever does it during a campaign when there is an international tournament on the horizon.Too much of a coincidence.

Probably a bit of a catch 22 with him because if he performed like that all season like he did today where he was going forward to some decent effect he'd probably been on the plane but then again would he have maintained his fitness throughout the season? probably not in my opinion. Is a shame he's not gone but a nice summers rest can't hurt.
He played 12 games last season, always seems to turn it on in an international tournament year and now he's been dropped from England I just can't see him having the motivation going forward.

Sounds like a crazy stat but given when we were successful we had good quality squads, I'm not surprised that number is low.
Shaw being on the list however is surprising. Think playing CB at beginning of season probably helped him too with fitness

All five outfield players are defenders too. Bruce (92/93), Irwin (93/94) and Pallister (94/95) all playing 42 matches in the 22 team league format. Harry Maguire did it in 19/20 and played every minute which is crazy.

I don't think anyone's under any illusions that his gametime will need to reduce next season but I'm glad he's been able to prove his fitness and quality again this season, he's taken some pelters over the years.

We definitely need a new left back though as he doesn't offer much going forward anymore, is liable to get injured, his contract is up next summer and shouldn't be renewed, and Dorgu should continue playing further forward for the time being.

Fortunately, his contract ends next summer, so no doubt he’ll do everything he can to earn a new one, whether at United or elsewhere. I hope we stay clear of him regardless of how he performs next season.

Very sensible. I think he should be on a pretty modest base wage with decent appearance bonuses if they want to retain him.

Makes sense. He won't get the same anywhere else either even if he goes on a free. Good player I'd like to keep him for as long as he's fit and playing. As in up to his retirement as a backup. He's just one of those guys who seems to find football easy and the big pressure games never get to him
No reason to give him more than 1 year contracts until he retires. He's 31 next month with a year left on his current contract, would be stupid to give him anything other than a year extension.

Even if that was true, which it's not 200k is still ridiculous. Hall is on 45k, Hincapie 65k, O'Reilly 30k (give or take based off of 1 google search) in no world is he worth that.
He was when the contract was signed, which was what the point of the post I was replying to. Cucurella earns nearly that - and I know which one I would rather have had for the last 4 years.

I would have no problem with extending Shaw on a year to year basis. Obviously the wages need to be cut but perhaps we could mitigate that him for him by including performance bonuses. The more I think about Lewis Hall, the more I like him.

How much did Maguire actually take to stay, I've looked online and can't see what his new lower wage is. I'm sure it contained a bonus for CL qualification.
