What the heck? Heaven's best qualities is his forward passing and composure on it. The version of Shaw that turned up today deserves praise and whilst he's plenty capable, let's not pretend he delivers this every week.
Heaven is simply not, he is limited on the ball and way too one footed which shows.

I am among several here apparently to disagree with this take on Heaven.

Luke Shaw, however, for me is normally one of the best defenders in the world on the ball, though he hasn’t looked it since his latest comeback. Starting to look better, mind.

Intensity and aggression has been two areas of concern with him, but yesterday he was perhaps more aggressive than I've ever seen him, and when Saka came in behind him once, he used his speed to catch up with him in a split second - in the past, I felt he could easily have let De Ligt deal with that and tucked in himself. Basically, he excerted himsel much more than he normally does.
I think it’s because he trusts De Ligt will be able to handle the situation if he gets caught so he dares to play more aggressively.

If it was a few years back, he would play safe because he knew Maguire was too slow to cover for him and Lindelof.

So last year of contract and a WC year who knows he might be fit for this season. Please let him finish and get his lard behind on someone else's injury room bench.

Last season he was shocking and the reason we lost the UEL finale. He looks leaner now, like Casemiro. Makes them both more useful. Gotta say I am impressed by this change as I assume the board has told them they wouldn't play if they don't match the fitness standards.

Yea, he didn’t look the same player when he came back after his latest injury last season, and neither in his first traing matches in preseason. He was still up and down for me vs Arsenal, but his best moments looked like old Shaw.

100% I've noticed the pattern with Shaw, I said before the season started, watch him be fit for a lot of games this season , he wants to be on that US world cup plane.

Fulham 1:1 Man Utd
Playing this guy is playing with 10 players.

What he offers?

Takes ages just to hoof the ball or for a shit pass that usually puts teammates under pressure.

Can't beat his man and carry the ball further up the pitch with any kind of urgency like Yoro/Harry.

Not good at defending or attacking corners.

Not good at defending, period. He barely has to do any defending (the other 2 CB are doing all the hard work) during games, but whenever you need him to do so, he is always flatfooted and slow to react. I'm

Amorim Is a fecking sabotager.

Best squad he can remember or what was it again? Nice 3 yard pass out of the field by the way

He a shadow of player he used to be, not sure how much that changes even with more regular game time now, even in the back three he looks off the pace.

That just wasn't good enough.

I really dislike how nonchalant he is at times with the ball. More urgency is needed.

His 200th Premier League appearance today, as he enters his 12th Premier League season here.

He has played less than half the 420 league matches we have played since he joined but he gets extension after extension after extension.

Was doing the math when the commentator said that stat, actually stupid he's still here but hey, the vibes are the best they've ever been.

One good game last week after years of anonymity and everyone was proclaiming him the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Massive wages, always injured, quite inconsistent when fit. Another one who should have been booted out years ago. But we had to “protect his market value”

Yeah I don’t get him starting.

Maybe it's protecting Heaven as a young player but he's so much more proactive than Shaw.

Shaw has been putting in these conservative, just about doing enough type performances for ages now.

And why wouldn't he? One good performance in three or four, along with the occasional run of good form, has been enough to get him extension after extension at the club.

I think he's scared of getting injured again.

So this is what we'll get now. He's an absolute shadow of the player he used to be, looks scared to tackle or break into a sprint.

I'm surprised at the criticism to be honest.

It didn't feel like Yoro-DeLigt-Shaw did a great deal wrong today, just everything around them was shite.

And scared to head the ball properly as well.

problem is Dorgu is not every good on the ball, and Shaw helps a lot in that regard.

Would still play Heaven instead or Maz (either on the left or swap Yoro).

He didn’t play badly.

We just ended up taking far too long getting the ball to the left side of our attack, so defence that had loads of time to get back into shape. Which made him and Dorgu look toothless. Plus it’s going to take a few games for them to work out how to link up with Cunha. All that faffing around was a tough watch though.

Wasn't Maz injured? I am pretty dure he will start when he's fit with Yoro playing LCB.

Yes, this is the most glaring issue for me. We need our wide centre backs to be aggressive and positive in their passing if they're going to be taking up the spot a midfielder would otherwise take.

This was epotomised in the Europa final, where with minutes to go he was strolling about with the ball playing half assed passes a yard behind players as if we were 2-0 up in a fecking training game. Even in amateur football people understand when a little urgency is needed, why that didn't seem to register with him I'll never understand.

Realistically if he can stay fit I'd like to see hik provide cover for that LCB role this season before leaving at the end of his contract finally (which I believe is this summer?).

One of the worst culprits after we lost control. Passing backwards, mis-hitting the ball and just not even defending. Time to join trombone squad. The party’s over pal.

Same. I had (have?) given up hope on him but today was a pretty decent performance. He had a lot of help from Dorgu though but at least he tracked runs, got tight and passed forward rather than sitting on his heels. However, I will be holding my breath to see if this continues. I recall him starting the 23-24 season well and then going back to his old ways i.e being on his heels, getting square and backtracking when faced with an attacker. The cynic is me though feels he raised his game more than usual because Tuchel was in the stands.

Didn't watch the game properly as I was at a friend's house. So seems like I was right then?

Man Utd 3:2 Burnley
Poor today

Rather see Maz now he's fit and shift Yoro to the left

Wasn't concentrating that much on his play but I was surprised he looked a lot more committed, going into tackles, tracking runs, going for aerials and even with some of his passing and dribbling (in first half at least).

Poor? He was easily our best CB today. Yoro was extremely sloppy and De Ligt constantly made bad decisions.

Shaw was really sharp, first to many interceptions, had an assured first touch and made plenty of forward runs which weren't always picked out by Dalot.
