Luton Town Football Club, nicknamed The Hatters, is a professional association football club based in the town of Luton, Bedfordshire, England, that competes in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Luton Town Football Club was formed on 11 April 1885. Before this there were many clubs in the town, the most prominent of which were Luton Wanderers and Luton Excelsior. A Wanderers player, George Deacon, came up with the idea of a "Town" club which would include all the best players in Luton. Wanderers secretary Herbert Spratley seized upon Deacon's idea and arranged a secret meeting on 13 January 1885 at the St Matthews school rooms in High Town. The Wanderers committee resolved to rename the club Luton Town.

Luton's first achievement was perhaps to become the first professional club in the south of England, at a time when professionalism was mainly restricted to the north. 1936–37 saw Luton promoted to the Second Division, and the first post-war seasons saw a strong Luton team begin to emerge. Record goalscorer Gordon Turner's arrival into the first team in 1950 helped Luton to promotion to the First Division for the first time in 1954–55, and the team remained there until relegation in the 1959–60 season. Luton also reached the 1959 FA Cup Final, where Turner's absence and the team's questionable preparation for the game meant that Luton lost 2–1 to Nottingham Forest. The club was subsequently relegated three times in six seasons, reaching the Fourth Division by 1965–66. However, players such as Malcolm Macdonald ensured that the club was then promoted twice in three years and was back in the Second Division by 1970.

The club's nickname reflects Luton's historical connection with the hat making trade, which has been prominent there since the 17th century. The nickname was originally a variant on the now rarely seen straw-plaiters. Supporters of the club are also called Hatters. Luton Town supporters maintain a bitter rivalry with Hertfordshire-based Watford. Watford have remained the higher ranked team at the end of every season since 1997. However, overall Luton still hold the superior record in the fixture between the two clubs; out of 118 competitive matches there have been 53 Luton victories and 36 for Watford, with 29 draws. A more recent survey taken in August 2019 showed that there was also animosity between Luton Town fans and those of West London club Queens Park Rangers. Other rivalries include Millwall, Oxford United, Stevenage and Cambridge United. The club plays its home fixtures at Kenilworth Road.

    Team should be....

    ---------------Henderson---------------
    AWB--Bailly--Tuanzebe--Williams
    -------Fred------VDB------Matic-------
    Mata----------Ighalo----------Lingard

Subs: Grant, Mengi, Dalot, TFM, Andreas, James, Greenwood

We don't have the squad for this competition so honestly don't care if we lose again

Every single player from first team will play. And we will win by 1-0 and then be lethargic again next week.

People may not give a feck but we need a good win to start a good run going. Another loss and I can just see our heads sinking further, resulting in a start like we had last season.

Don't expect a full strength team, but there will be quite a few first team players there I hope.

The players need minutes otherwise they go to Brighton and will still be struggling for match fitness. Then god help us it is Spurs with Jose on a mission. He will love to stick it to us.

Maybe it will go better than the time we played MK Dons.

This game should have been an opportunity to use a second string team.

now this game must be used to get a bit off confidence into the first team players and some much needed match sharpness.

This Team is not going to win the league so we might as well go all out and win a cup
Martial and McGuire looked very rusty today so I would play them
Brighton away is going to be a very difficult game

With lack of an actual preseason, think we'll use this to try and build up the fitness of our first team - bar the goalkeeper, in which case we should see Henderson.

I'm ready to bet our second string team will struggle in this one.

i hope this is the case, and I can’t see Ole doing anything other than this. You just know though that we will play too many games too soon trying to build match fitness and end up with injuries to key players.

We are not good enough to win a cup either. We have no plan B and eventually we get found out.

We'll play a strong team. Despite the lack of signings there is still pressure to win trophies.
Luton are only 5 places below us.

I actually live near Watford, in Hemel Hempstead. I go to Watford a lot. Love me some Smokey Boys and Meat And Shake (although that's now closed).

Are there no other ways to financially support the smaller clubs? This cup is so annoying. Nobody really wants an extra domestic cup.

A million ways. The Premier League can certainly help.

Full 11 save dean for dave. They don’t deserve a rest and look rusty as feck.
It's not about deserving - it's about what's best physiologically speaking. The games will soon come thick and fast, so it may be an unwise strategy having them play 3 matches in a week right from the get go.

We can always arrange a training match, but I think it's just more about needing more training and step that up. We've not had a long time to train.

    - If I see any of Lingard or Pereira on the team sheet I'm not watching.
    - If James can't perform well against these in his "best position" he should never start again. I don't expect much since he was dogshite there against LASK but Rashford is terrible too so whatever. Would be nice to give minutes to Elanga too.
