Jesus Christ. What a way to misread the thread. Violence would have a decidedly negative impact because majority of people are non violent. A coordinated, peaceful protests - ones which involve stopping of matches going ahead - these protests, are needed. Now.
The very first post that I quoted, during this whole thread was about “running on to the pitch mid game” I said that this was barbaric as it increased the danger to the safety of the players. Stating “football is not that deep”

i then got posters defending that “football is that deep”

Then the above poster who I quoted agreed with me saying that football is not that important to incite rioting.

I’m not misreading anything, I was simply replying to a post that referenced match pitch invasions mid game!

You think it’s barbaric to invade a pitch?

Don’t know if I agree, to be honest. In my opinion what’s happening with your club and many other football clubs in Europe, but especially in England, is a symptom of a very serious issue. More and more institutions of culture, places for social gathering and so on are being sold and turned into products without any meaning. That’s an important issue that transcends football.
It is not a good thing, if those who actually keep clubs going have less and less power. It is an issue if these clubs stop being football clubs and become mere products without any heart in it.
Football clubs are social institutions of great importance. People gather and socialise around them. They work in them. They reflect the culture of the communities they are located in. All this is getting lost. The meaning and history is getting loss. And thus community gets lost.
This is a general issue of capitalism. And it goes far beyond football. But if you never start to fight for what should be yours, it’ll soon be gone forever. Your club has been stolen by the Glazers. It has been stripped of its meaning, of its purpose and its beauty. It’s merely a way to enrich a bunch of people who are already obscenely rich. It’s not a club anymore, but a commercial enterprise. It’s become interchangeable. Devoid of meaning.
English fan culture is simply nonexistent. If I watch games in other countries, see how the fans are organised, politically active, active throughout the community, how the people identify with their clubs and then turn to England, it’s sad really. Because non of this exists anymore. It’s just a place where your supposed to spend loads of money so some dude who doesn’t even know a thing about Manchester, the club, the region and so on can become even richer and buy another super yacht. It’s sad and appaling, really. And it upsets me to see, how English fans accept all this shit. Rock bottom for me was to see how Newcastle fans actually cheered becoming a sportswashing front for a horrible and criminal regime.
Don’t know if rioting does help. But it would be great if fans in England would start to organise themselves again. If they would build communities again. If they became active again.
The lack of all this is no coincidence. It’s the sad result of the waste laid upon your country by the horrors of Thatcherism. Because these people understood the political and societal role these clubs played and therefore fought them. Because they were a hinderance for greedy, unhinged capitalists on their way to even more power and wealth, stealing from all of you.
Don’t accept this. Stop being apathetic. Become active ffs.
What’s happening to your club is no coincidence, no unfortunate serious of events. It’s the logical conclusion to a process going on for decades, that’s not being fought against anymore. And until you pick up the fight again, it won’t get better, but will become worse and worse.
100% right. Major organised protest is the only way forward now. Actually it’s perfect the Liverpool game is next for this. I’m making my banner right now.

Unfortunately there are lots of fans who don’t care enough or worse, defend the Glazers with arguments that they have spent a lot of money. I can’t see fans coming together to do anything effective.
I'm sick of seeing people saying this. It's the most ignorant of interpretations about the situation at united.

Can someone explain whether Martin Edwards sold us willingly knowing that the levels of debt leveraged against the club? Or was something that he would of been unable to stop?

We’ve let the club down as fans. Let’s face it - it’s our fecking fault. At the end of the day, Glazers; they’re only custodians of this club.

Owners will come and go but we own Manchester United. And we’ve absolutely neglected this club.

There is a sickness in this club which absolutely can be rid of - if we unite as fans.
It’s time to act. Enough is enough. I would love to be in Manchester right now to do whatever it takes to interfere with these bastard owners.

I think the most effective tactic would be to do what happened when the European Super League broke out. Stop matches happening from protests/blockades. It can't be allowed to continue.
This is the only answe at this point. Make their lives hell.

Ah banners, schmanners. Singing anti glazer songs and harsh written words has got us absolutely nowhere. I like to think I have a considered, balanced view on life and it’s actions, but it’s definitely time we kidnapped a Glazer and held them to ransom.

We’re already seeing so-called club supporters on the caf throwing ETH under the bus for the shocking performances of the players. It’s not for me to tell anyone else what they should do, but I can’t not notice the rot with certain quarters of the fan base.

We know about the leech owners, but there’s a lot of blame to around including Ferguson, executive management, the ex-players who coddled Ole, football management from Moyes through Ole, and the players themselves.

How many of you would be ok with fans trashing OT? I mean it's already a shithole, may as well go whole hog.
You should really be asking if it’s worth a lifetime ban from the club many on here love with a passion, better off just not going to games if that’s where you’re going to end up.
I 100% disagree with anything resembling a riot, as it’s the stadium staff and the Police who are subject to it, they’re 100% not responsible for the current issues.

You make a good point and I agree. Whilst there was a small element that took it too far, if I remember correctly, I think the whole thing was carried off relatively peacefully? Anyway, it made headlines and Sky were certainly unhappy.

For this season I've decided not to attended the half dozen matches or so that I usually manage to make. Not going to buy the shirt either. Now I'm not advocating everyone do this, or even saying I'm right in doing this. But it felt like the right thing for me to do personally.

I totally agree with this . I've been involved with some match day protests but the vast majority of fans don't bother and at times go as far to confront those protesting .
These Parasites should be no where near our club yet have been for 17 years .
I always go back to a good friend of mine from Amercia who told me 17 years ago that the Glazer family will suck your club dry and drain all resources out then walk away leaving it in ruins .
At the time I felt this was am exaggeration but now I know he was 100% correct .
I’m young’un but I remember the protests at OT - the blockades some hardcore fans put up. They’ve been called drama queens et al. The fact that it’s still up for discussion a decade and half later - it’s mind boggling.

This exactly it. We, as Man Utd supporters can peacefully protest and yet stop games. We can disrupt the whole show, at least for home games.
The fact that Glazers own the club, it actually means little - since they don’t actually support the club.

All it takes is a good number of fans to invade the pitch and get the match abandoned. Do it game after game until something is done.

I said this a few months ago to a mate. A Real Madrid ultra would have legitimately kidnapped or attacked a Glazer way before now. Barca ultra probably same.

id have the whole caf locked. The fact that we’re discussing irrelevant things is testament of how much we’re split as fans. It’s not the team. It’s not the manager or the coaching staff or players. There’s one common denominator here.

There is no need for invasion. We as United fans can simply ask the players to decide between us and the their employers- it’s not unprecedented. Internal uprising is not uncommon. It’s just that there is no Pique that would play for free - we have a lot of people here because it’s beneficial for them.

this is totally on them.

I'm never one to suggest closing threads down, let alone the caf itself, except perhaps once in jest a year or two ago and I'm sure you're not serious about closing down the caf. But your point is well taken, although I disagree that it's only about the owners. The fish rots from the head without question and the Glazers have to be held primarily to account for the rot of the entire body of the fish, but what I saw yesterday was a lack of concentration from our keeper and then downed tools from the players after we went down 2-0. There's no easy answer for why these players lack the character required to recover from adversity that happens to every squad on occasion, but it's safe to say that when we're down we are done and dusted.

Personally the only thing the fans really need to do is stick behind the manager. Let’s aim our distain at those above who seem to be showing continued incompetency. Back the manager with everything we have though.
Hard to trust the words from you with that tagline.

Because I disagree with running on to the pitch mid-game? Seriously?
What do you suggest people do, then? Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'm interested to hear alternatives. Fans at Old Trafford is the most visible, high profile and effective way of sending a direct message. It isn't possible to subject the Glazers to anything, given that they are sunning it up in Tampa. People want change, but aren't willing to put in the hard and uncomfortable yards.

The only time in 17 years the glazers even bothered to speak publicly was after a game was postponed. Literally the only precedent set to effect change is from postponing games. Clearly, it works, and nothing, NOTHING, else has.

Long term fans were brought up trusting United to do the right thing. That was where the United way came from. No matter what you stuck with the club and the manager and the players. Even through relegation. It was how it was. Everyone fighting to do the right thing. However this ethos is still instilled in the fans, especially the old school fans and unfortunately it has allowed the Glaziers to get away with murder. No matter what we kept believing it will turn around. Trust the players, trust the manager, trust the club, we will get it right. But its a different era and a different time and you just cant keep hoping that it will turn around.

Its too much of an effort to do anything right now. Lets be honest, the Glazers was bad for us when we had Fergie as they havent spent much but then we had SAF. And after that then, when we need players, one can argue that they have spent alot every year (at least budget or whatever net spend one said of circal 75 to over 100mil depends). And, i think we have to admit that we cant expect any owner to just keep pumping money into the club. Thats not what bussiness is run. Chelsea, City, and PSG are excluded as they have owner that dont really care much about money. They view the club and football as a vehicle to help raise their reputation and profile. Also they have bottomless money and that nobody can compete with because they can keep making buying players when they make mistakes until they have the right ones and we just cant.

Also, they dont really say much to our daily opperation. One of the major thing we can say is that they might having too little or less care about the club becaue they been too leniet and trustful to Ed Woodward resulting in still having old system, different manager with different style of play and the worst is dont trust people with football expertise. We still dont have director of football (experience one with alot of connection as i think footballing transfer is more about connection than pure biz and be good at targeting players and having system and play style in place as well as chaning manager according to our style of play rather than the opposite).

Glazers has their faults alot of them really, but we cant just lump every bad thing about UTD onto them really. Its just the result of having bad people and system from top to bottom since SAF left (and i believe he left in a hurry and the club didnt have time to prepare enough, he and david gill left the same time). EtH has his style of play and i believe us fans can agree on that but we know that he was used to have a system that help him with all other stuff and let him focus on his coaching but at UTD, i think its been a mess really with people at the top that dont really have much of an experience on continental football/biz and we saw what happens with our transfer deals. He has a system to play and he can more or less try to coach players to play his system but if he dont have much players that fit his system then thats what we get now. Players dont suit his system and cant learn how to play and do well in this short period of time. We wont improve if he cant have his foundation players to help him. Just look and Pep (city was preparing for him for years from top to bottom and spend on players until he got the right ones) and Klopp been help with the experience top people too in Liverpool.

The Glazers are absentee landlords who have appointed and retained sub-standard (and that’s being kind) people to run the business, not seemingly caring about MUFC matters (team or facilities) provided they still got their dividends. They are not even necessarily smart - no doubt Malcolm Glazer was no fool but the current lot inherited their wealth. Put it another way, if they hadn’t bought us in 2005 and continued to hold us for 17 years, can you imagine United falling so low? No doubt there would have been a period of adjustment after Fergie (the structure on the football side was antiquated due to Fergie’s extraordinary long tenure) but any competent owner would long ago by now have fixed the problem by looking at our (former?) peers and adopting best in class practice.

Yes, i agree with that and that is their fault but theres alway two ways about thing. If they keep butting in regard any UTD matter all the time then we fans would still begrudging them.

I agree they have their faults and problems but lets be realistic now, they are the owner and theres not much we can do about it. We wont get anywhere by doing what the thread intent to do. At the end of the day, everybody will get hurt, fans, club and the Glazers.

We dont want to get to that point. Also, truth be told, they are doing what bussiness man do with their bussiness and only the people they put in charge are doing the damage (but then Ed was having excuses made for him the first few years as he was starting a new roles and then later on we were still wining Cups in between seasons too). We just dont have a fix structure to how we want to play and when we realize that, we brought in Rangnicks and i thought hed be move up top to help implement the structure and specific style we want to play but then was told to leave. And theres then medias campaign against him (i believe its office politics problem) to change the narrative and there we were, most was trashing him as a bad manager while in fact he was brought in with a view as a helping hand to fix the structure rather than being the manager.

Pretty much precisely why nothing will get done. We'll have people like you going football is just a game blah blah blah. And fair enough mate, it doesn't mean that much to you, nothing wrong with it. But for people to whom it does mean a lot, seeing the club they and their families have supported for generations, seeing it totally being destroyed is like watching a family member fading away. You can't understand that, sure, but to say people responsible for this demise should not be held accountable is not something I can agree with.

The only way we can hurt the Glazers is by hitting their pockets and if that involves having to resort to stop games from going ahead, then it has to be done.

The only time in 17 years the glazers even bothered to speak publicly was after a game was postponed. Literally the only precedent set to effect change is from postponing games. Clearly, it works, and nothing, NOTHING, else has.
This.

Have you heard anything about Steaua Bucharest in the last, I don't know 15 years maybe? A CL winner and multiple finalist, 15 years or so Europa League semi finalist. The reason why it's now a non entity is because they have an owner that sees the club as his personal toy, literally says he cares not about either fans or even performance. The fan base is now a small fraction to what it used to be, most refuse to even watch the games.

The point is that it's impossible for fans to do much of anything about the owners. The Glazers had massive protests to deal with at the takeover time and pushed through like it was nothing. If we "riot", make big protests, we are more likely to get some police baton in the head then push the scum out.

The UK needs to implement and 50+1 ownership to football clubs with fans having the lion share. They sure like to talk about clubs being cultural assets, but they allow anyone, even foreign states to own them. I'm not English but if i were, I would look to put pressure on the politicians to do the right thing and protect clubs from scummy owners and sport washing entities.
