Mamadou Sangaré | signs for Brentford

Yeah I would say he is a top candidate but his ball carrying metrics are quite low compared to others, however can see it being another surprise again like with Tielemans.
We have enough ball carrying midfielder we need someone like him now

Sangare looks like someone who would be a good alternative to Baleba if we're looking for someone who can give us legs and good at the defensive side of the game. There doesn't really seem to be much noise around anyone signing him at the moment, which seems a little strange.
And much more likely to cost under £50m which would give us budget space to bring in a starting left back and/or another attacker. We will need the legs, I could see us, if we sign him or a player of his ilk, having several, interchangeable sets of midfields - Mainoo and Santos against lower league teams, Tielemans - Mainoo when chasing a game, Santos - Sangare in emergencies or away at tough matches or Tielemans - Sangare - Santos when our backs are against the walls.

The lack of noise could be a good omen when you look at how Santos or Tielemans weren't on radar

Unlike Santos and Tielemans, if United really wanted him there's no reason he couldn't have been signed 2/3 weeks ago already.

No need to spend huge when this guy's stats put him up there with Mateus Fernandes and better than Manu Kone.

He's doing what he's doing at 24 in Ligue 1. Not at 21 in the PL.

Hopefully Vivell has him saved on his favourites lists.

Gourna-Douath and Diambou were given priority at Salzburg, while Sangare was loaned then sold for €1.7mil.

Is 24 years old the new 30? It's still possible for him to make the jump. His stats show he is a very good player, upto those at the club to decide if they feel he will or won't.

The 3rd midfield signing needs alot of the qualities that he has. I'm interested to see who we sign/go after.

With Mainoo and Bruno we have players who can act as ball carriers. We have no idea whatsoever who the club are in for at this point though.

I really like that ball he seems to enjoy playing over the top of the opposition midfield, think it would be useful from DM when Tielemans isn't playing.

Doesn't seem to be any concrete links though currently but that doesn't seem to mean much for us in this window.

With Chelsea in for Kone, it seems to be between Sangare or Baleba.

If he can replicate his form from France Brentford have got themselves one of the better midfielders in the league. I think he'll take a while to settle and it'll probably take him until next season to really start showing why they signed him

I'm surprised we're not in for this guy. He looks quality.

Not Premier League proven so United won't touch?
Typical if Brentford sell him for big money in 1-2 seasons

If we are linked with him - bad signing

If we are not linked with him - what are we at

Assume so as he seems to match up quite well with the profiles we wanted.

I've not seen him live much admittedly, from the highlights and analysis he seems a very good signing for Brentford.

Well there's generally just 2 camps on any given player, for and against.

So it's just that more than people changing their views to criticise the club.

Found his level, from what I've observed and spoken about already.

Not a surprise move at all.

Good player, just not quite what United should be targeting. His passing, and ability on the ball under pressure, still leaves something to be desired.

Andrey Santos is better.

Who has said it would be a bad signing? This thread is just people wanting him from early tenuous links. Strange comment

No doubt we’ll be interested in a couple of seasons when he’s worth £100m+ and out of our price range.
Hopefully whoever our third midfielder is means that we have the core of our central midfield for the next few years in Mainoo, Santos and ??

Much more fun spending a summer speculating about strikers than holding midfielders!

United: "There's no value in the market"

Also United: *ignores all the value in the market*
Just signed Tielemens for 35m.

The club seems to be doing fine. I think our incomings are just blocked right now because of uncertainity with certain players leaving.

I think we are still waiting till the last moment to get a midfielder in when prices quoted will be more realistic.

If we sign a forward/ LW, we will basically invite all clubs to submit loan with option bids for Zirkzee and Rashford.

Prices will not go down late in the window. If anything they go up as you leave teams in a position they've got no time to replace the sold player.

It is brutal if we're having to wait on sales having a spent only £40m net so far.

Yeah that is a real damning indictment on this window

At that price how are bigger clubs not taking a punt on him, including us? In a market so bloated it seems mad.
I can only imagine the price might be an issue.

Was thinking he'd cost maybe 35m-40m ish.

And he only had just one good season in a decent league. Still, think he is worth the risk though.

Yeah makes you wonder who INEOS do actually consider is worth the risk for that third midfielder

It will be interesting to see how he fares in England.
I thought he could have been a cheaper version of Baleba for us but never mind.

That depends. We seem more than willing to let players go on loan late in the window when they are surplus to requirements. If e.g. Real have too many midfielders and need to raise cash, they might want to sell Tchou or Camavinga. There might be a deal to be done (or maybe not). But if it’s a player the club would rather keep, then late in the window is probably worse for getting a deal

I think it comes down to risk and convinction in your decisions. I still see no evidence our recruitment is data led, because if we were, this shouldn't really matter. I think the data is used to justify the targets, rather than draw up the list. That or we weight data from the PL far too high, so they always come out on top. Even if I look at Lammens, it was a scout reccomendation. Sesko didn't actually have the best stats last year, but Vivell knows him well to look past it.

Stats and data analysis should be used for obscure players in remote nation, or as supplemental metrics

You dont need data analysis for players playing in say serie A or Eredivisie. You can just buy the whole vids and watch them, or just scout them for 5-10 games.

Disagree. The data should really inform your list if you have the game model decided and then you can run the eyes over them - regardless of what league they're playing in.
