"Manchester United will step up their interest in Southampton midfielder Tyler Dibling if Ruben Amorim's team secure Champions League qualification by winning this season's Europa League, sources have told ESPN."

Southampton £100mil valuation is unrealistic, probably in the £40mil range going by other online player valuation sites. Example football transfers has him at €32mil.

From ESPN article (top link)

"..United also want to bolster their midfield options in the summer regardless of whether they qualify for the Champions League, but sources have said that essential targets in attack and midfield would take priority over a move for Dibling if United fail to qualify for European football next season.."

From BBC(bottom link):

"..Dig a little deeper into Dibling's stats, and his ball-carrying distance per game (207.3m), his total dribbles attempted (83), and his total dribbles completed (40) put him in the top 20 Premier League players.

His dribbles completed per game (2.34) and fouls won per game (2.57) place him in the top 10.

"He's the most fearless player I've ever worked with," former Saints Under-21 head coach Adam Asghar tells BBC Sport.

"He's totally unique to anything I've seen before. He's got raw physicality, pace and power, is an unbelievable ball-carrier and is always impacting games..."

'Dibling is the antidote to robotic, structured & predictable football'

So we are not going to chase him if we don't?
We will see if that happens then  :lol::lol:

£40m with maybe another £10m in add-ons based on performances is probably as high as we should go.

He is talented and has great physicality but the numbers are below average at this point of his career, so anyone paying that type of money is paying for potential than proven quality.

He's a hype player right now. I suspect they won't settle for anything under a stupid amount. If so we need to look elsewhere. The team in 14th place in the league can't spend big money on a lad who's just broken through with no real track record.

Wilcox has seen him close-up as Southampton technical director. Cole Palmer may have hit a temporary slump, but obviously still a wonderful player and probably the closest comparison (plus a touch of Bale, if not quite the same monstrous pace) if you look at where Dibling is compared to CP at the same age.. Would probably still favour Mastantuono for the 'pure' 10 playmaker role, but Dibling has the advantage of being trainable as a RWB. Him and Amad on the right-hand side, interchanging between 10 and RWB would potentially be lethal for opponents.

We never learn do we?

And we wonder why we are literally midtable. He's not ready and nowhere near worth the figure Southampton would look for

Yeah, we're talking about potential again though despite our track record of developing talent being pretty mediocre in recent times. If he was £20m yeah it's a good bet on talent, but he'll be a lot more than that.

For 30 million, he's probably just a bit more than I think we should pay for him. He wouldnt be a starter, he's a rotational option as RAM/RWB. Reminds me of a young Grealish.
I wouldn't prioritise him as we still go issues with the first team but, with spare cash from winning EL? Sure.

He’s not even been a regular starter for half a year.

For the worst side in the league. Let that sink in.

Hell yeah!! Let's chase him and we can find out if he is Tyler swift (enough)

I'll get my coat.

You don’t know what he would cost so post is a tad dramatic

Yep, this is the reality. He has some quality but his end product is quite poor for now

Fernandes who is 20 to Dibling's 19 at least stays in the team and is one of their better performers. Dibling is often a sub

I would be staying well away from this transfer. This kid is massively overrated.

A year from now we will be looking back at a bullet dodged, just like Evan Ferguson.

Has he actually shown anything yet that warrants a big transfer? I just don’t get the hype so far - he often can’t even get into the Southampton team

I think he’d actually benefit from a season in championship playing week in and week out.

The hype on here over this kid far outstrips what he has demonstrated.

People get way too carried away on here, this kid is not even close to being Southampton main man but he'd be expected to contribute way more here given the price he would cost and how many areas we have to address with proven quality, ready to contribute from day one.

The only optimistic thing here is that we'll prioritize a midfield signing this season.

About £30m is the max I’d be prepared to pay. If not, wait a year and see how he develops. If anyone wants to pay more for him this summer, then so be it.

I think he's a great young prospect, good first touch, quick and nimble on the ball, strong ball carrier.. can receive it with his back to goal and turn players

I dunno if he suits that 10 perfectly or whatever and haven't seen him play much, but if we're after him I'd be quite happy

if we're after him it goes without saying Amorim thinks he fits it well

Suspect we are going to sell Garnacho to fund him. Which is going to be a very big mistake.

I like him, he should not be a big money signing though. Did he not have issues with pressure just moving to Chelsea? Can't imagine being a big money signing for United would do his mental health any favours.

I think this would be an excellent move. I suspect the usual know-nothings will gnash their teeth over his lack of goals / assists but he's playing for the joint-worst ever PL side and is 18.

He moves like a top player in my opinion. Glides with the ball, arrogant, confident, head in the air, looking for space to run into our a pass. You can see he has class.

I’m completely with you here. I think people in here could look very silly in afew years when they see his trajectory.

He looked really promising early in the season but maybe opposition then wised up and he's been more tightly marked and struggled to make much impact really for awhile, and then has been benched quite a bit. Also, to give him some benefit of the doubt he may be struggling in the new managers style of play, which seems pretty non existent, whereas at least Russell Martin had a style of play, albeit very naive.

As another poster said he would benefit from playing regularly in the Championship, ideally under a new manager. Signing him would only make some semblance of sense if he has a reasonable relegation release clause, and then loaning him back would probably actually be the best option for the player. That would at least be more sensible than waiting for him to potentially explode and then costing a bucket load more.

Wouldn’t mind this after we get a Striker, left 10, right 10, lwb, cm, gk and cb

I don't imagine we'll be signing 2x no10s with the amount of players currently at the club unless a lot leave. Amad, Garnacho, Mainoo, Mount, Bruno, Zirkzee have all played there regularly.

Mount has not played anywhere regularly for us. Also we’ll be letting go plenty of attackers in Sancho, Antony and Rashford. I very much doubt we sign only 1 player in that position

If you look at our problem this season it's creating chances and taking them.

We are going all out on attack once we ship out players, we need a wing back and a midfielder too.

We will be signing a few attacking players.

Who cares about his footballing ability, the lad has an absolutely world class agent, getting all these 'links' in the media.

He looks like he has lovely balance, is a bit quick. That's it so far. He might turn out to be amazing, but there is nothing whatsoever to date to suggest it.
