Man United's record when winning at half time at Old Trafford - 362 Wins, 35 Draws, 0 Defeats

Someone told me it's PL only so great to hear that it's all competitions. Honestly I don't think we've lost many games when winning at HT away from home either. I remember it was Leicester 5-3 in 2014 and then City last year after almost full 10 years.
We nearly lost the home record in the Europa League against Lyon back in April.

I'd presume most top sides would have a record similar to this, no?
Not the case at all. I can’t find stats just now but I remember reading that every top club other than United has had at least one instance of this in the last eight years or so.

Didn’t United overturn a half time deficit away to City less than a year ago?

Yup. Back in December.

It is such a freak record, but how many times we've been beaten in the past decade have diluted it. It's crazy however that the record spans SAF's entire managerial career at United.

Was the last two and half years of Atkinson too

Only 323 games? Dating back to May 1984 and it being 41 1/2 years, shouldn’t we be close to 800 games, especially given there were 22 teams in the League in the 80s?

We weren't leading at half time in those hundreds of other games.

Imagine the state of this thread if this was unlocked during the game.

Would prefer to go in level at the break then risk getting this broken

It’s a nice record but we lose regularly at home now and scrape a lot of draws so its significance is eroding. We’ve been very fortunate a number of times now, last night included, to maintain it and it surely won’t be long before it goes.

 it's weird, last night as Casemiro scored to make it 2-1 I was happy but also immediately thought of the record.

I'm not sure about that. Last night was really close and Lammens saved it, also Newcastle game in 2024 when we even won in the end was another one but don't think there were many games where we were fortunate. Maybe Arsenal last season but we were great for large part of 2nd half. The thing is that over last 12 years if we had a lead at HT it usually meant we played well that day, otherwise we weren't winning at HT in the first place. That's been the case away from home as well - we lost to City after leading at HT in 2024 and that was first time since 2014 so like full 10 years. I'd say losing after having a lead was mostly happening under ten Hag in 23/24 season.

Honestly, I hope if and when this record is broken, it'll be someone like Brentford (actually, Bournemouth last night would have been perfect), rather than, say, City or Liverpool or Arsenal or Leeds.

And the one good thing about the record if it goes is at least we'll never have to hear it mentioned again every time a team equalises against us in the 2nd half, sick of hearing about it at this stage!

We went decades with it never being mentioned, now its so rare for us to be leading at half time and we're so shite, it gets brought up every single time  :(

There will have been players who played for us for years and were probably not even aware of it, but now you bet your sweet cheeks the current crop are aware of it which probably doesn't help at all, because they're a bunch of nervous nellys.

At this point its only significance is as a pub quiz question.

It’s embarrassing to clutch at this so called record so often. What’s next? Most goals scored between minute 64 and minute 73 by a PL team whose name starts with M?

Gotta be one of the few records we have left. I remember watching them fall left, right and centre during Moyes' tenure.

People actually hoping we don't take leads into half time so that the precious record lives on.

It's a meaningless statistical quirk. We've been beat countless times at OT, and been stuffed a fair few. As an example, Brighton beat us 1-3 last season. Would it have made any real difference in the slightest if they scored all their goals in the second half instead of one being scored in the first? Would any of the various batterings by City and Liverpool have been any worse had we nicked an early lead in any of those games?

It's borderline miraculous that it's still 'intact' given how shite we've been for a lot of the last decade, but I don't understand anybody actually caring about it or fretting that it might go away as if it's some kind of foundation that the club is built on.

Our win record at home, or away for that matter, over the past three seasons is nothing to write home about and we've only won half our home games this season.

I'm that context this record is pretty meaningless. I saw a bunch of people posting that Lammens had saved the record. Honestly who cares?

I think the record isn't that important but losing it is just another stick to beat the club with.

Lammens saved us from losing, which is important because we've got two really hard games coming up.

The state of people worrying because we're actually winning a game of football.

I think I'll be glad when it's gone. The amount of added stress this causes me just isn't worth it
