Man Utd vs Atletico Madrid 1/8/2026 14:00

Mount will inevitably get injured, and we're back in Europe so rotation will be critical. We need another CM, hence why it's been reported multiple times we want a 3rd CM signing
If the assumption is Mount will get injured, then why don't we sell him for a decent price in the 1st place?

Two players per position is completely standard and anything less is leaving us short.

This is especially true when one of the first five misses half a season through injury every year.
Well, all well in theory, except Bruno will play 40-50 games a season, don't you think? No chance he will start 30 games a season.

Then the DMF Santos, being the only qualified DMF #6, would probably start more than 40 games a season, if fit and injury-free.

The rest - Mainoo, Tielemans, Mount, fight for scraps on the remaining 90-100 starting slots. And you think there is space for a 6th MF?

My point is, we have 3x #8 only 1x #6, why didn't we trade Mount for DMF in the 1st place, unless there is tactics to accommodate Mainoo-Tielemans-Bruno without being over-run in the middle.

I really wouldn't rely on Mount to give us anything this year, I consider any big contribution to just be a bonus at this point.

All Zirkzee hate on here when he is playing well is turning me into a fan. Let's go Z prove the haters wrong.
Been a fan since he joined. Even if he isn't ultimately good enough for us, he's obviously talented. I enjoy his style of play, and he seems to be a cool guy on top of that.

Two senior first team players per position has been completely standard for decades at this point, and there's even more games in a season these days, so I'm not sure why in 2026 we suddenly have too many players if we have 6 players for 3 positions in the team.

Especially when you know Mount will miss half the season. At the moment it's more like we have 4.5 players for 3 positions.

Injury prone players are very hard to get a decent price for.
That and we actually lack players in that age range, you want the team age to be spread around. Our only midfielders in the ages 24-28 are Mount and Ugarte. Tielemens is close to this age but by next season he'll be 30. It's why I want Tchouameni, he's 26 in his prime but still young enough to be part of the team 5+ years from now. You can't say the same with Bruno and Tielemens

It is even more important to CUT loss. 20m is a decent to me, unless you think we can get 30 or even more next season or season after? Mistake is a mistake, like Ugarte (unfortunately on his injury), Antony, Onana. They don't get better (or better price) by sitting on our bench.

Only Pep-City managed to have 50m backup fullbacks, and even Pep-City couldn't hold on to those 50m backup.

When you talk about 2 players for every position, some of them must be Maguire (pensioners) and some are kids (Amad, Mainoo - even him I wonder whether he would accept 30 games this season). Santos isn't trading Chelsea bench for ours, so there is lots of expectation to manage.

My concern is short on DMF, unless Carrick is certain he is the real deal. And if everyone are convinced Mount won't get mileage point, sell him.

Being injury prone is one thing but his massive wages is another problem to contend with if selling him.

It’s just jut that easy. He’s under contract and on high wages and the player also needs to agree to sign for another club. And even if we cut the price massively a buying club still needs to assume the financial burden of a wage package which they’re reluctant to do with players who are likely to end up in the injury room. If it was straightforward we would likely do it.
