Manchester United Basketball Club

Again, I think some are overestimating the popularity of the sport here. It was popular for a period in the 90s which lead to some British teams developing a decent support but it kind of phased out after that. Same with ice hockey.

I'm not sure there's a demand for it beyond a few UK based NBA games every season. It's why Manchester Giants moved from the Manchester Arena and why Manchester Basketball struggle badly to attract decent crowds (as do most in the BBL I believe).

Manchester United Basketball would be relying heavily on football fans turning up to make it worthwhile.

We'd probably be better working with Salford Red Devils (who are on the verge of bankruptcy) or even with Manchester’s hundred side in the cricket if we wanted to essentially license out the Manchester United name.

So how long are we giving it before the Middle Eastern folk across the road get jealous and start their own one up?

I often wondered why so many big football clubs in Spain, Greece and other countries on the continent also had basketball teams.

Do we really need it though, is it not just going to be a distraction from the football?!
I think we would have different players playing football compared to the basketball

Yeah I get that smart arse, but who's going to be running the f**king thing?!
We had a basketball team in the late 80s i would hope the club would employ people who know the ins and outs of basketball. Then again we have struggled in recent years to find people good enough to run a football club.

There's already a Manchester Basketball team tbf. Why would we bother setting up another club. Interest is limited.

If the club could arrange home fixtures for the basketball to be on the same day as a home football fixture it may help.

For example if the football was a 3pm ko have the basketball at. 7pm so people could watch both games.

Or the same could be done on the day of a united ladies home game. Its all in rhe marketing

There is just too limited interest. Vast majority of match going Utd fans would laugh at the prospect. It's a niche sport in this country and having it associated with a football club just alienates you from potential local support who aren't United fans. And the nation Utd fans would travel from wider in the UK to watch a basketball team in numbers is fantasy.
