Manchester United view sidelining Marcus Rashford as key to cultural reboot

Rashy rocking the two watch look for double the bling.

We discussed Rashford’s lifestyle here a few months ago. There is nothing new to see here. This is the life he has chosen, which stands against what United stand for.

The watches bother me a lot less than the possibility he has an entourage to carry his bags for him. Because not being willing to carry his own bags is a great metaphor for why he’s been such a disappointment on the football pitch.
To be fair none of it bothers me, although taking a complete shot in the dark I'd say his entourage (specifically his brother) is probably the biggest reason his career went downhill year over year. Just seems like he's got some shit advice in his ear at all times.

Pointless bump

Footballer in wearing jewellery shocker read all about it

Football is a strange business. Tens of millions are invested in form of fees and salary for a person's performance on the pitch. It's a cut throat business as well where the slightest of hesitation or lack of fitness can be the difference between a good performance and a bad one. Thus clubs have to scrutinize everything, talent, how a person carries himself on and off the pitch etc. SAF and our last title winning team knew it. Rai Van Del Gouw signed on the condition he removed his pony tail and there was an unwritten rule for youngsters not to come to training with a fancy car. Rooney was shocked seeing Pogba and JBeanz dancing after a game they have lost. That showed lack of commitment. It didn't matter if it was true or not Perception does matter and one whose paying millions in salaries for an underperforming player isn't entertained by him dancing around after a loss, irrespective of how he might feel inside.

Rashford is paid as a top top player despite not showing the goods. His club wants him out, he went to Aston Villa and they sent him back. The last thing he needs is to come out looking like a bellend. That wouldn't have been an issue if he was scoring hat-tricks for fun. But those days are long over. Thus its better for United and himself to give the impression that he's still a professional player. He hasn't done that on the pitch, at least he can do it out of it.

I could not give two hoots to his taste in attire, gold decorations nor his expensive luxury timepieces, (by the way it equates to one week's wages!!). What I do care about is the apparent way he has suddenly "grew up" and "matured", it appears, to me, that the initial talent he showed has become lost in the fog of celebrity. Personally, I did not see this outstanding gift, yes he was a decent player, but who on earth put him on this pedestal of unearned wealth. We were told he had rediscovered his "hunger" at Villa....I failed to see the evidence of that, again it was overblown hype...but hey he scored two against Preston (I'm not denigrating PNE, by the way), let's be serious. Now he wants to go to Barca...again let's be serious, who on earth is going to pay him his current salary...perhaps a Saudi club. The way this is panning out he'll be back at Carrington for pre season training, unless he's got a birthday party, a sick note or some other "cunning plan". It's bad enough his mate Sancho is on his way back. What a farce. I could go on but I am completely bored by this latest display of crass vulgarity...perhaps it's my age, but if he performed on the pitch like a true professional he wouldn't leave himself wide open to ridicule.

While this thread's up maybe we can look at the positive side too:

Cynic in me tends to see stuff like this as calculated PR moves but I want to believe he's a good lad at heart. Of course, his attitude on the pitch is a different matter altogether.
Agreed re being cynical because it is filmed, however, it is a great thing he is doing and he's clearly got a good heart. Just a bit lost in terms of football, his place at United.

After a mediocre loan it will be hard to shift him, but really looking forward to seeing him sold

This the thread to bump, really? Just can't let a wealthy young man dress how he wants, can we?

It's his attitude in training, match day and in the backroom that's the cultural issue. Not his 'bling' or company.
As Amorim said, "I look at everything. How you eat, how you dress, etc..."

Do you feel the way Marcus dresses is a cultural problem?

Is that considering more than this photo? Do you differentiate how he dresses for different events? Like, what he wears to training or to hospitals and philanthropic events?

I don't think it's fair to be judgemental around what someone wears in their personal time versus public facing events and engagement that fall into the scope of their professional work. These are tabloid photos aren't they, meant to rouse.

I also wonder what exactly Amorim meant if anything at all. I think managers should be dressed more formally on the sidelines but here we are these days with t-shirts and sneakers. Appalling and disrespectful

Not this particular photo but the way he dressed at that nba game with the grill was ridiculous. You are representing United even when you are on vacation, at least that's my view.

3 more years left on his massive Utd contract? No wonder he's all smiles.

Just waiting for someone to call him uppity, haha. On another matter, if we do end up having to keep him, can you imagine having a choice or combo of Amad, Mbueno, Gyoko, Cunha, Rashford, Zirkzee, with Bruno and Casemiro right behind them.

No, keep Rashford, Sancho, shaw garnacho etc away from the squad, this player power where they are all that matters and they couldn’t care less if they win needs to end now. Wouldn’t let any of these poisonous beeps anywhere near the changing room. The fact that nobody is interested in any of them proves that the rest of football feels the same. Although I hope someone proves me wrong. The idea rash has a big heart when he can’t be arsed playing for his boyhood team is a joke. His charity work is no different to wearing two watches it’s just image manipulation.

I actually like the clothing (top and shorts combo) but it’s ruined by the need for what looks like 600 chains ..
And yeah two watches, da feck is that about.
Those shirt and top combos are quite popular and inoffensive.
I have an irrational hatred of men's jewelry though, even the single neck chain my brother wears. They always look chavvy.

I don't see it as a cultural problem, just bumped this cos it was the most recent.
I defended him wearing that hoodie, but the two watch thing got me this time.

There was a footballer fashion thread somewhere that would've been a better fit tbf.

Glorious nostalgia of a few years ago when our "cultural reboot" saw us bang £130m on Maguire and Wan Bissaka

"that'll sort us".

I quite like the pattern on his clothing, it reminds me of the curtains I had in my room when I was at University in the late 1970s, early 80s,
Good times.

Buzzing for Rashford to be sold so we can move onto another scapegoat.

Amad's escaped criticism for too long. Needs bringing down a level.

If Amad starts performing like Rashford has in the last two seasons (and three of the last four) then he'll deserve that criticism too.

Otherwise, it's a ridiculous comment. Rashford has had more support in the Utd fanbase (and somehow still does) than he would at any other top club in the world if he'd been performing like this for them.

Scapegoat? I think you're mistake.

Too often for too long has Marcus Rashford been put on a pedestal he does not belong.

Only performs when team does.. else he goes hiding, everytime its got tough, he has moaned.

He is the opposite of the mentality this club needs..

The sooner get get rid the better.

We were 13th when he played his last game for us. We finished 15th

Doesnt seem like it helped

It wont because you play FM and this is real life.

In football manager a culture can be changed in an hour... in real football its not like that.
