Going to this game. The first I've been able to get to for a while. Can't wait

Can't believe that I'm looking more forward to/dreading the Spurs match. This is just a small distraction from the real business!

Huge game this, even if it's the FA cup and not the premier league. Could make or break our confidence.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Blind
    Di Maria Herrera Young
    Rooney

    Let's fecking do it!!!

I still predicted a draw. Which would be the worst since we'd have a replay smack bang in the middle of our tough fixture list.

As good as that looks on paper, have we actually played 4231 even once under LVG?

    Didnt we play it today?
Looked like a 4-1-4-1, with Blind sitting noticeably deeper than Herrera/Fellaini, and Young/Di Maria running from deep rather than pressing high. Not a huge amount in it though, basically a tilt in the midfield triangle.

In Smalling's pocket (as every other person)
Very confident, have liked us very much recently and have seen very positive things from Valencia, Smalling, Evans, Herrera, Young, Rooney and even tho di Maria is having a bad patch of form, he is a game changer and shows his class. Bad match but created at least 3 possible clearcut chances. De gea, valencia, smalling, evans, rojo, carrick, fellaini, di maria, herrera, young, rooney. I prefer Carrick in this one just because of his passing range and his shielding

I'd like to see Blind, Carrick and Fellaini in a 3 man midfield. Blind and Carrick clever passers and read the game well which will be vital against Arsenal. Fellaini in box to box which I felt he played best in this season. Let him be combative and occupy the opponent players. Mata, Di Maria, Rooney in a 3 man attack. Players who use space well, individually can win a game and can combine together.

The only team I've ever confident of beating when we're playing this badly is Arsenal.

Having said that they're massively overdue one on us.

    Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Bilind

    Carrick, Di Maria, Fellaini

    Young, Rooney, Januzaj

Maybe putting Di Maria back into the centre will spark some more life into him as he can get more involved with the play.

Not expecting any miracles, to be honest. Though I think we generally perform better against the more quality opposition.

4-2-3-1/4-3-3/4-4-1-1 are all essentially the same thing really. Minor adjustments throughout the game that changes things. We've used that type of thing the last few games.

As I said above, none of the variations we've played this season look like the 4231 we saw so much of under Moyes last season imo. Not that it's important obviously.

I fancy Arsenal to be honest, I just think they're a better side (without either team being anything even remotely approaching 'great').

It changes during the game. Today was more of a 4-3-3 with Blind deeper, but on the weekend, both Herrera and Blind were pretty much at the same level with the wingers high up the pitch making a 4-2-2-2 or a 4-2-3-1, with Rooney behind Falcao. Either way it doesn't matter too much as you say but it's more just a way to write it down, rather then us playing a very strict formation.

I am always confident against Arsenal. We won somehow in the first game, we even beat them with Moyes and got a point in the second game.

I also think we will do fine in some bigger games and that's a good time for it, will please us more than another game against a team which sits deep and we don't know what to do with 70 percent ball possession.

    Still laughing at Scousers.
It was a better performance, ADM was better, Rooney had a sterling performance and Valencia showed his speed and skills. The manager is coming out of his shell. After all the bull about how bad we are, we still have a better goal difference over the Dippers, and we look more secure with every game. This was a better performance and it is getting better at the right time.

Its at home and we pretty much always win at home.
It defies logic how easy we win at home and how we struggle away, but that's what is happening.

Based on the above, I expect us win by 1 goal. 2-1.

Whoever wins this will win the cup. Even though I still think we're a bit crap I can see us winning at Wembley.

Arsenal have Paulista, Monreal, Szczesny, Wilshere, Flamini, Arteta, Debuchy and Diaby out for this one.

Likely we'll be up against Mertesacker which we should take advantage of!

    I would play:

    De Gea
    Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
Fellaini - Carrick - Di Maria
    Januzaj - Rooney - Young

    • Two attacking full backs
    • Carrick holding and starting play
    • Fellaini playing the box to box role. Did well playing there against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
    • Di Maria to give us drive from midfield and run in behind if Rooney comes short
    • Januzaj and Young to keep width
