Alkmaar Zaanstreek, better known as AZ Alkmaar or simply AZ, is a Dutch professional football club from Alkmaar and the Zaanstreek. The club plays in the Eredivisie, the highest professional football league in the Netherlands, and hosts home matches at the AFAS Stadion.

AZ was founded on 10 May 1967 as AZ '67, the result of a merger of Alkmaar '54 and FC Zaanstreek. Alkmaar '54 was founded as a professional team in April 1954 to play in the 10-team NBVB league, created because the KNVB refused to organize a professional league. FC Zaanstreek had been playing since 1910 as the Kooger Football Club (KFC). KFC had nearly become National Champion in 1934 through a narrow loss to Ajax in the finals. The team became professional in 1955. In 1964 the professional part of KFC was renamed FC Zaanstreek, while the amateurs played on as KFC.

AZ has won the Eredivisie twice, in 1980–81 under Georg Keßler and 2008–09 under former United manager Louis Van Gaal. In the same season as their first league title, they also reached the UEFA Cup Final, which they lost to Ipswich Town. In addition, the team has won the KNVB Cup on four occasions.

Play the kids... Finishing top is nice.. but we can focus on the Europa leauge after Feb..

    League gets priority till then.

Rest the players that need rest.. James looked shattered.
McT needs to be wrapped in cotton wool. Fred too..

No clue how we'll line up.. I'd be totally fine with us playing 10 defenders and just going for a drab 0-0.

AZ host Ajax next Sunday in top of the table clash, less than 72 hours after this match. Good chance they will rest key players as well. Martial, Rashford, Fred, McT, DDG, AWB, Maguire and Lindelof should definitely not start. Hopefully Pogba can be fit enough for bench.

A mix of kids and bench/reserve players hopefully.

Having said that, our squad is thin, we have barely midfielders and attackers to jump in. Only in defensive we are stacked with senior players.

@varga92 right in contention for the LUPG after a dismal last round for myself and Samid. 16 points was the highest against City

    Rest them all.

    De Gea
    Young Tuanzebe Bernard Williams
    Garner Levitt
    Andreas Mata Chong
    Greenwood

De Gea plays if he wants, as Romero is coming back from injury.
Uncertain about Bernard in the defense, did well against Astana and expect him to be picked over Jones.
Matic might start in the midfield, but I think we will keep the Garner Levitt duo, as they are used to playig together.
Will Chong be given another chance? What about Gomes? Maybe Laird will start on RB, making Young a winger. We will see on monday who does not start the U23 game, as they might be saved for thursdays matchday squad.

Laird should get another game on the basis of last match.
    Grant
    Laird Tuanzabe Jones Williams
    Garner Levitt

Pipe opener for Pogba off the bench?

But then he'd be cup tied so probably Everton.

Basically play everyone on the bench today, and throw some youngsters in too.

Leave the likes of James, Maguire, McTom out totally.

Separate cup ties for Europa and Champions league these days, so not an issue.

Anybody wanting to throw this game should think again. We need to keep up the winning momentum and mentality regardless of the opposition.

The Astana game didn't really benefit us did it? Rest players yes, but play for the win.

    United 2-0

    Team should be...

    --------------------Romero--------------------
    Laird--Tuanzebe--Bernard--Williams
    ------------Levitt------------Garner------------
    Chong-----------Pogba-----------Gomes
    -----------------Greenwood-----------------

    Subs: More kids

Hopefully Pogba is fit as this will be a good game to give him minutes.

I think we should play a semi decent side. Have Martial and Greenwood up front. Lingard and Mata in midfield with Pereira and Garner. Then play Jones, Tuanzebe, Young and williams in the defense.

Some people might want to rest Martial, but I do think he needs games too.

I'd be very cautious with Martial, as he's imperative to what we're trying to do.
To risk him in a dead rubber doesn't seem wise.

'Still think it can be important to win the group even if it doesn't matter that much. Could have Rashford on the bench and give them one half each. Chong and Gomez are not good enough I think to start in this game.

One of Rash-Martial on the bench at most I'd hope. Bring them on if really needed in the last 20.

We only need a draw to finish top. Rest the key players, Everton game has got to be the priority.

    Grant
    Young Tuanzebe Rojo Williams
    Garner Levitt
    Pereira Mata Gomes
    Greenwood

If Pogba comes back I'd like to see him replace Levitt with around 30 minutes or so left to play. Laird coming on for Young, so Young is fully fresh and available for the Everton game.

Have a semi decent bench with Lingard, Martial and Jones there as well.

Fred, Rashford, Maguire, James and Mctominay definitely deserves a rest.

Anyone knows more about Myron Boadu? Only 18 years old and seems like one of the best talents in Holland.

After today we could give everyone the night off and it would be just like us to still drop points in that one :(

All well and good beating teams that give us space but what about those that park the bus? This will be Ole's first real test.

Yeah definitely in favour of resting the key players in this game, particularly if big Dunc will still be in charge of Everton next Sunday.

Cheers. Didn't appreciate that had changed. Maybe he'll get a few minutes then.
Stop being foolish, any cup-tying will not be in our thinking. He won’t be leaving in January anyway, and if he were, then he wouldn’t play regardless.

Agreed, but would swap in Mellor for Matic.

    Garner.....Levitt
    Greenwood.....Mata.....Gomes
    Mellor
Would also like Grant to get last group game, then give Romero rest of cups and Europa.

Think we should keep the momentum going. It didn't exactly work resting everyone for the Astana game did it?

We have only 1 day rest for Everton . Since we are already qualified, we need to rest key players.

We had 3 intense games in 7 days, we should play with kids and back up players, give the first 11 complete off.

    Would go with

    Romero
    Dalot/Laird
    Tuanzebe
    Jones
    Williams

    Garner
    Matic/Levitt

    AP
    Mata
    Gomes

    Greenwood

If Pogba is back then we should give him some game time.

May not have immediately but missing that trip may have helped our last two performances! Our squad is way too thin to risk injuries in unimportant games like this one

That had nothing to do with it. Losing Mctominay fecked our league form. Himself and Fred cannot be risked.
