Charlton Athletic Football Club (nicknamed The Addicks, The Valiants, Red Robins) is an English professional football club based in Charlton, south-east London, currently participating in EFL League One. The club was founded on 9 June 1905 by a group of 14 to 15-year-olds in East Street, Charlton, which is now known as Eastmoor Street and no longer residential. Contrary to some histories, the club was founded as "Charlton Athletic" and had no connection to other teams or institutions such as East St Mission, Blundell Mission or Charlton Reds; it was not founded by a church, school, employer or as a franchise for an existing ground. Charlton spent most of the years before the First World War playing in local leagues but progressing rapidly, winning successive leagues and so promotions eight years in a row. At the outbreak of World War One, Charlton were one of the first clubs to close down to take part in the "Greater Game" overseas. The club was reformed in 1917, playing mainly friendlies to raise funds for charities connected to the war and for the Woolwich Memorial Hospital Cup, the trophy for which Charlton donated.

In 1995, new chairman Richard Murray appointed Alan Curbishley as manager of Charlton. 1997–98 was Charlton's best season for years. They reached the Division One play-off final and battled against Sunderland in a thrilling game which ended with a 4–4 draw after extra time. Charlton won 7–6 on penalties, with the match described as "arguably the most dramatic game of football in Wembley's history", and were promoted to the Premier League. Charlton spent much of the 2003–04 Premier League season challenging for a Champions League place, but a late-season slump in form and the sale of star player Scott Parker to Chelsea, left Charlton in seventh place, which was still the club's highest finish since the 1950s. Charlton were unable to build on this level of achievement and Curbishley departed in 2006, with the club still established as a solid mid-table side. Charlton share local rivalries with fellow South London clubs Crystal Palace and Millwall. They play their home games at The Valley.

Apparently they just sacked Alan Curbishley. Another club with a new manager bounce against us. Great.

Play Butt Land in goal. McFred. Garnacho. Rest all the best players but have Rashford and Casimiro on the bench just in case

    Will win anyway

    I love you xx

Butland/Heaton, AWB, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia, McTominay, Fred, Elanga, Garnacho,

That's 9 players and I don't know who to put in 2 places: number 10 and striker. With Bruno suspended and van de Beek injured, it leaves us with Eriksen and we need him to be fresh for City and Arsenal. Same goes for Martial as striker. Squad depth is our problem, absolutely have to get someone this month.

Actually, as odd as it sounds, wonder if we could see one of Martinez or Lindelof start in CDM role, with McFred infront of him and then we don't need Eriksen to start. Yeah it doesn't sound great but just a thought.

Think he’ll give De Gea another start to get today out his system.

    De Gea
    AWB - Maguire - Martinez - Malacia
    McTominay - Fred
    Eriksen
    Antony - Elanga - Garnacho

Some rotztion is needed but not too much, can’t underestimate an opponent, in the meantime lets hope newcastle or city bite the dust and if that not happens lets hope they draw each other next round.
We need to win something this year, the players need to feel it is possible

Might be Maguire over Martinez. EtH seems to be using him very sparingly, might be some form of punishment for being late back from the World Cup. I'd want him sharper if he's starting against City though, so maybe sub him after 60~.

I’d play Antony for sure. He still needs minutes to settle in. He didn’t play much in the World Cup and he missed the Bournemouth match.

Should win with a fair number of changes to the starting XI otherwise I’ll begin to panic.

    McTominay - Fred

    Elanga - Eriksen - Garnacho

    Martial

Subs: Heaton, Dalot, Lindelof, Williams, Savage, Iqbal, Casemiro, Antony, Rashford

I think Martinez probably starts after being left on the bench tonight. Ideally you'd want to rest Eriksen but with Fernandes' suspension it's difficult to see where the creativity comes from if we don't play him.

Well Butland definitely won't play given he'll of barely trained with the club and how long ETH likes to give players before they're integrated into the team and clearly Heaton isn't fancied either

Eriksen, Bruno, Rashford and Case need a rest imo. Don't risk Varane with City coming up. Team should be

    Heaton
    AWB - Maguire - Lindelof - Malacia
    McTominay - Fred - Mainoo
    Antony - Elanga - Garnacho

    Antony Garnacho Elanga

Sub off Eriksen and Martinez after halftime.

Mainoo subbed early tonight with potential injury.

I doubt he would've played regardless. I expect Shoretire to be involved in this Charlton game.

Ah shitter. You're probably right about him not playing but with VdB injured I thought it would've been good for him to come in.
    Ahwell, he has time yet

Have no clue how we'll lineup for this. I assume Martinez starts and plays for 45-60 minutes to get ready for City. Rashford and Casemiro clearly rest. I'd like Tony to start and score before coming off early, but I wouldn't be surprised if we rest him too.

Garnacho and Antony clear starts. Eriksen I guess too? Jesus we are light in depth right now. And I'd assume Elanga either starts or comes on quite early.

Won't expect anything from this game in terms of a performance. Just win and keep everyone fit.

    My line up and thoughts:

Gk: DDG (but can be any of the three)
LB: Malacia (potential to give Williams minutes if we are cruising)
LCB: Martinez (needs to get back to match fitness)
    RCB: Lindelof or Maquire
    RB: AWB
    DM: McSauce
    CM: Fred
CM: Eriksen (sub for Mainoo or Iqbal at 60 mins if we are comfortable)
    LW: Garnacho
RW: Antony (needs match fitness, would take him off after 60 mins for Elanga)
S: Martial (needs more minutes and a chance against weaker opposition to gain some confidence)

Wouldn't even bring Casemiro or Varane. Rashford on the bench if we need a goal.
