Chelsea Football Club (also known as The Blues and The Pensioners) are a professional football club based in Fulham, London. Chelsea were founded on 10 March 1905 at The Rising Sun pub (now The Butcher's Hook) after Gus Mears had previously acquired the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium with the aim of turning it into a football ground. Since there was already a team named Fulham in the borough, the name of the adjacent borough, the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea, was settled on.

Chelsea's first major title success came in the form of the League Cup with the appointment of former Arsenal player, Ted Drake, who also led Chelsea to the their first ever League title, enabling them to compete in the European Cup, but after objections from The Football League and the FA, Chelsea were persuaded to withdraw from the competition before it started - allowing Matt Busby's Manchester United to start their illustrious adventure with the competition.

After decades of being non-competitors, Chelsea returned to the domestic title fore in 2003 under new owner Roman Abramovich, who fueled an unprecedented spending spree - starting in the mid 2000s. Since the takeover, Chelsea have won 1 Champions League title, 5 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cup titles, 2 Europa League titles and 3 League Cup titles. Chelsea's most prominent rivalries include local clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, title rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. Chelsea play their home games at Stamford Bridge.

    Team should be...

    ------------De Gea------------
    AWB--Lindelof--Jones--Shaw
    -------Matic------Pogba-------
    James------Lingard------Rashford
    ------------Martial------------

Subs: Romero, Young, Tuanzebe, McTominay, Andreas, Mata, Greenwood

I think it's unlikely Maguire will go straight in and although I'd prefer to see Tuanzebe partner Lindelof the smart money has to be on Jones. I'd also prefer to see McTominay and Pogba but again I feel the smart money has to be on Matic in there. Then there's James or Greenwood on the right and I think we'll go with James (though I guess we shouldn't discount Mata being in there somewhere)

Maguire will go straight in, he did preseason with Leicester.

He'll of done very little work with us though. Big risk to throw him straight in especially given his position. Not saying it wont happen but I just think it's unlikely

    This, only with Martial central.

Although I still have hope that we'll bring in a midfielder by then.

Looking forward to this. Gone is the pointless passing and the mid is moving the ball a lot quicker. Was expecting to face a different side dybala bruno etc. But that slow sloppy midfield of matic mata and co must be targeted.

    It's good to be back.

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Pogba
    Lingard Mata Rashford
    Martial
Is my prediction... It's not the most exciting front 4 is it?

    Red Card for Casemiro!
I don't think Ole will throw in the youngsters like he has in preseason.

    DDG
    AWB- Maguire-Lindelof-Shaw
    Pogba-Matic
    Mata- Lingard- Martial
    Rashford

James, Fred and Greenwood to come off the bench.

Thank god football is back! I feel like I've spent my days in a fever dream all summer, Fernandes and Dybala laughing at me as I wander the house listlessly completing whatever chore the other half has assigned me to.

    Thank god.

    Anyway! I'd like to see:

    -------------------De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    ---------- McTom - Pogba
    James - Greenwood - Martial
    -------------- Rashford

But then what do I know.

I assume Lingard will be in for James & Mata / Matic for Greenwood. I think we'll look more solid as a result but less exciting than my wonderful lineup.

I get that maybe we'd be a bit loose lined up as above, but I think with that back five we can afford to play on the front foot from here on in.

Either way, god damn am I excited to get started.

I think James will be far more useful coming off the bench (less pressure too )

After getting my hopes up for Dybala starting this game I really can’t get excited about seeing Lingard or Mata. Please no. Greenwood or I’d rather play with 10 men.

I didn't watch any of the preseason matches (bar the last few minutes and the shootout vs Milano), so I don't understand why people are putting Martial as 9 and Rashford on the left side. Did Ole play them in those positions in pre-season?

For what is worth, I hope it happens. I think that Martial is a better CF, and Rashford plays better in the left-wing than as the main striker.

Yeah he played as a forward quite a bit. Definitely his best position. Rashford cannot be trusted as a CF.

    My prediction:

    DDG

    McT-Pogba
    James-Lingard-Rashford
    Martial

2-0 win for us, both goals from Martial

It is good to have premier league football back. I would start with:

    De Gea
    AWB - Maguire - Lindelof - Shaw
    Fred
    Mctominay - Pogba
    Lingard - Martial - Rashford

Give Pogba the free role he wants to cause Chelsea defense havoc. I don’t why people have James in their team. He was unimpressive in pre-season and looks like only a speed merchant like Yedlin. Might be proven wrong though.

It's actually unlikely that he doesn't feature. If this transfer was him seating out the pre season(let's say due to some tantrum thrown at Leicester to release him) then i could have seen him not being involved with this game. But it's guite the opposite, he's had a full pre season and will be training with the team a good 5 days before the Chelsea game. He'll probably play.

I remember Pogba coming in just a few days before the Southampton game and was made to start, and that was with him having no pre season at all. Big signings usually just get thrown in.

I think we'll see one slight adjustment to this with Mata slotting in at #10 and Lingard moving to the wing. James on the bench.

How has Pulisic done in preseason? I know he scored a goal but overall, has he impressed?
