Liverpool Football Club (nicknamed The Reds) are an English professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Liverpool were originally founded in 1892 as "Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd" (Everton Athletic for short), before finalizing on the name Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd. after a dispute between the Everton FC board and John Houlding, the owner of Everton's former premise at Anfield Road.

Liverpool's forays into competitive football started when they joined the Lancashire League. After winning the league title in their first season, Liverpool were accepted into the Football League for the 1893-94 season, following the resignations of Accrington and Bootle. Liverpool reached its first FA Cup Final in 1914, losing 1–0 to Burnley. It won consecutive League championships in 1922 and 1923, but did not win another trophy until the 1946–47 season, when the club won the First Division for a fifth time under the control of ex-West Ham Utd centre half George Kay.

One of the most successful and storied clubs in the history of European football, Liverpool have won 19 English league titles, 6 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, and 8 League Cups, peaking in the 1970s and 1980s, first under the enigmatic Bill Shankly, and then his Boot Room successors Bob Pailsey, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool have two fierce historic rivals: crosstown club Everton FC (matches between them are termed The Merseyside Derby), and Manchester United (stemming from the success of both teams as well as the cities' competition in the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century).

    4-2-4 again. Feck it.

Even if we play 4-2-3-1 double pivot we're going to concede at least 3 anyway, so might as well give them what for and try to score 4.

Had we lost tonight I'd of given us a chance of winning, now? No chance

Hope Rashford, Fred and Shaw are all ok after tonight, was the walking wounded at the end

It’s going to be a high scoring affair. Both defences are terrible at the minute

Fatigue is a bit of a worry. I'm going for a spirited 2-2 draw though with another late comeback.

Was sure they'd beat Atalanta. Even at half-time.

Willing to bet my fooking life they'd smash the scousers.
    C'mon United! C'mon Ole!

If Pogba can put the effort in like that and not like the Leicester game, him and Fred should start.

Problem is we've seen this throughout the team going back to Jose era, timid slow starts, concede one or two goals and we then have nothing to lose and start to fight to earn the right to win. It's pretty much the hallmark of this Ole team and I called it at halftime we can win. Pogba came on and you can see he wanted to prove something.

Tactically we need to do something different here although we probably won't. We need more bodies in midfield to control the game and we need to hold onto possession. I would try something like

    DDG

    Lindelof Maguire Shaw

    AWB Donny Fred Pogba

    Bruno Rashford

    Ronaldo

Scholes is right, we'll get absolutely smashed if we play anything like we did tonight.

Starting Pogba for the Liverpool game is exactly what we don’t want. Also am I right in thinking Rashford and Fred are now all injured, if so I would go with the below.

    ——————Ronaldo——————
    Lingard——Bruno————Sancho
    ———Mctominay—VDB————
    Shaw—Maguire—Lindelof-AWB
    ——————DDG—————————

Pogba, Cavani, Greenwood off the bench as required. I’m playing VDB here as I don’t trust Pogba in the middle and Matic is too slow and I’d rather have Lingards runs from the left.

Basically I just want VDB to keep it simple and try to harass like Fred and a game like this may concentrate his mind, I know it’s counter intuitive to trust VDB and not Pogba but oh well.

Pogba was superb when he came on. A mixture of that and Fred potentially injured means there's every chance he starts with McTom.

That aside, it's hard to see anything else changes from tonight's starting line up, aside from a 50-50 decision on Greenwood v Sancho.

Liverpool has yet to score less than 3 goals away from home this season.

We haven't kept a clean sheet for a consecutive 20 matches.

Pray to every deities imaginable that we would be able to score at least 3 goals (which, tbf, isn't that far-fetched looking at how their defense is playing thus far)

I think we are going to get absolutely killed on Sunday. Absolutely massacre with the form Liverpool are in

You aren't coming back from 2-0 down on Sunday and suddenly start playing, players playing for the manager or not, they could will have 10+ on target on Sunday minimum

For me, this is the best we can really do, just go for it with the front 3 moving around. Rather this than see us trying to defend when we're clearly incapable. However, I think it'll probably be Matic starting for one of McTominay/Fred and Pogba on the left instead of Cavani.

    Think we’ll lose but we have to try and put in a solid 90mins, I’d like to see;

    ……………………….De Gea
    AWB……Lindelof…Maguire……Shaw
    ……………………..….Fred
    …………Bruno………………..VdB
    Greenwood…Ronaldo…Rashford

Pogba, Sancho, Cavani to come on.

Bruno to play in 433 to help the midfield, don’t want McT or Matic in there as they are too slow to turn, Liverpools 3 will run past them with ease.

    Obviously VDB has no chance.

Seriously, VDB hasn't played a second against much weaker opponents, and you think Ole will start him against the Scousers?
We have to try and win this one. How? I don't have a clue

Set up on the counter and pray that Rashford has a good game, their fullbacks are their weak point. Cavani must start.

I'd like us go with a 433 or 352. Liverpool have had quite a few problems against the latter formation, against Brenford and Atletico Madrid.

    We need something different.

    I'd go with:

    Ronaldo Greenwood
    Telles Fred Bruno Wan-Bissaka
    Matic
    Shaw Maguire Lindelof
    De Gea

Rashford, McTominay and Pogba to come on.
