If the front 4 don't drop back and help defend I don't hold out much hope McFred can stop them on their own.

    3-1 to Liverpool, I think.
Ole can't expect Ronaldo to keep bailing us out of trouble every game and this game will be a step too far.

If we play the way we did 2nd half vs Atalanta, its going to be a good game

If we play like we did vs Leichester, its going to get ugly
...and if we play like we did against Atalanta in the first half, it's gonna get real ugly.

yeah a lot of the players looked knackered last night. Maguire and Wan Bissaka seemed to be by the end as well as Rashford, Shaw etc. Gonna be tough to say the least!
They'll have Thurs, Fri, Sat to recover, which is plenty of time.
Energy or lack of recovery should not be an issue.

Its a sad state of affairs that we need to play defensive against them at Old Trafford and they're again in a much, much better state than us.
Unfortunately, while Ole is in charge, even with a team of Galactico class players, I see no change in our underdog mentality.
    It's quite shocking really.
IMO, we have the best first team and possibly the best squad, in the EPL, yet we have to play like underdogs in every match.

So sad to say it but I think we'll get smashed in this one. I'm predicting 3-0 to Liverpool. Can't remember the last time I predicted us to lose by that much - maybe for Jose's last game also against Liverpool. If I'm right with my prediction, and I hope I'm not, Ole has to go. That'll be 1 point from 12 in the league.

Wow, does none of you think we can pull this off?

    :nervous:
I really don't see it. We can't keep a clean sheet to save our lives, so we will most likely need to score 2 or 3 to win it. Our best chance is probably if becomes an end-to-end game with lots of chances and we can maybe get a draw or a lucky win. But the odds are stacked against us.

I'm actually very relaxed about this. I think its because in my head we're already out of the title race and we're going in as underdogs. If we lose, its expected and maybe it puts some much needed pressure on Ole and the board. If we win I'd be absolutely elated for beating the scousers.

Pogba against TAA is suicidal, Ole should've known this before the game last season and he shredded us to pieces.

We'll sit incredibly deep all match, then draw or win 1-0,and everybody will scream masterclass while the same people would have criticized Jose for the equally abject football that was displayed.

This will probably be a game reminiscent of the 0-0 draw last season.

Funny how the dullard football criticism doesn't apply to Solskjaer in these circumstances.

In years past, we defended well enough to scrape 0-0 draws against superior sides. On what basis can we believe that this United side can keep a clean sheet — or even hold to one goal — against this Liverpool side?

We’ll need to score three goals IMO to have a chance at getting a result against Liverpool.

I applaud the blind optimism in here but I'm afraid we'll see more of the same. We dont keep clean sheets against garbage teams so what makes people think it will start against a team that have scored 30 goals in their last 9 matches.
Our approach never changes. Every single game is the same.
The only way we have any chance is if we score first and get into them physically and get massively lucky and we'll need probably 3 goals

If we go toe to toe it's over as a contest after 30 mins.
If we show up and produce the normal shite then it's going to be a long afternoon.

I expect Liverpool to win by 2 or 3 goals. Comfortable for them.

I want to think differently but I can't see it happening.

I'm confident we'll get a result. Form goes out the window in derbies and we do have some decent big game players in the squad. Ronaldo is going to tear it up.

Big confidence boost midweek for some of our players, Maguire needed that goal, just like Shaw needed that assist. AWB had a terrific game too and De Gea is in top form right now. Its all doom and gloom, but there's plenty of positives to suggest we can turn this around and we always perform better against the big sides. Old Traffords going to be electric too.

If we don't match their midfield we'll be comfortably beaten. Fred would be a big loss.

We need Fred's work rate in midfield. Pogba with Mct or Matic will be a disaster.

I'd use Pogba as sub again if Bruno is fit. He just does not work hard enough over 90 minutes.

Did McTominay really say that we're underdogs?

FFS. We're at home. Granted vs Liverpool but I don't want to see any of that kind of timidity before a game vs. Liverpool at home.

We haven't beaten Liverpool at home (in the league) since 2017/2018.

They've scored 36 goals in 12 games with Salah in the form of his life.

We've kept 1 clean sheet in 20 games and we're facing a side who average 3 goals a game.

There will be no romantic underdog story tomorrow. It'll be a fecking bloodbath.

He’s not wrong though. On current form and considering the respective shape of our team and coaches, then they’d have to be the objective favourites.

Of course it being a derby nullifies that somewhat.

Could see anything tomorrow. Could see Liverpool winning, scoring at least three. Could see a low scoring game. Could see United stepping up and winning fairly comfortably. Liverpool are favs, but I imagine Everton were much bigger favs against Watford.

Salah to score at least one on the counter and we will concede at least one from a setpiece.

let’s be objective here...this ain’t a game for Ronaldo. We are going to have less of the ball. Just like Leicester and Atalanta...if we don’t press Liverpool will settle immediately, breeze into their stride and their back line will hog the ball high up the pitch. We need to unsettle them and As much as we are bad at pressing, it’s simply impossible with Ronaldo playing.

In possession, we will need the ball to stick up top to relieve pressure. That’s isn’t Ronaldo’s game either and he has been really sloppy in possession so far. Our main weapon is counter attacking at pace. Rashford and Greenwood are essential to keep Pool worried.

I’d go for a Diamond and keep Cavani and Ronaldo for when we need a lifeline.

    De Gea
    Bissaka Lindelof Maguir Shaw
    Fred
    McT. Pog
    Mason. Bruno. Rashford

United are being written off a lot. I like that.
Yeah agreed. They are a good side don’t get me wrong but did anyone see how poor they were defensively against Madrid? We have more firepower than Athletico and we can exploit their weaknesses. How anyone can just write us off (especially our own fans) seems ridiculous to me.

Have a funny feeling about us tomorrow. We are a due a Big performance and result and they haven't lost for 20 games so they will eventually.

Just feels like we need a big result to get our season started. Hoping tomorrow can be it.

I have no issues with us being cautious tomorrow, especially first half. I don't think we can afford to open up the game too early.
